Zach King: The storyteller in all of us | TEDxPortland
Zach is a filmmaker, born and raised in Portland. He started his film journey at age seven when his parents gave him a camera at a wedding. After being rejected from film school, he started the KZread channel "FinalCutKing," where he posted video editing tutorials. Zach has garnered more than 400,000 subscribers to his channel. In September 2013, he launched a Vine account based around his "magic" editing and has grown an audience of nearly 1 million fans.
Event Recap - April 12, 2014 at the Keller Auditorium with 2900+ in attendance marked the 4th installment for TEDxPortland. Committed to ideas worth spreading in the Rose City and beyond, 55+ volunteers, worked year round to organize this one-day event featuring 14 speakers and 4 performances. This year's theme was PERFECT.
With special thanks to the UNIVERSITY OF OREGON for presenting partnership, a world class stage design provided by HENRY V, an incredible legacy bound book provided by PREMIER PRESS and to the creative digital craft provided by INSTRUMENT. All of our "Perfect Partners" can be found here:www.tedxportland.com/?partners
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Passion is everything. If you love what you do, the money will come. My dream was aviation. There was no plan, I just knew I wanted to fly. Now I'm flying corporate jets for a fortune 500 company, and have the time to go back to video, my first love. Follow your passion. Great job, Zach! You solved the equation early!

Wow. This blew my mind. First I thought that the internet is completely ruining our life, but after this i have a different look at it, what the internet can do. Im a hobbywriter for myself and now that I think about, it's scary. People can read what im writing everywhere. And that Im chatting with people from Indonasia, Japan, ... its amazing! This really makes you think. Thanks Zach for being such a cool guy and thank you for giving me inspiration. ( And sry for all the mistakes in my comment, Im just a 13 years old student from Germany ^-^)

I love how he ended the video, emphasizes that the tools are simply tools. I want to be journalist and nowadays anyone can be one because it's so easy to obtain information but if you can't cultivate it and put it out in the world with a story it becomes meaningless. It IS all about your ideas.

He's right to this day, now after almost 9 years from publishing this video our tools have become more advanced that you only need your phone to shoot, compose, edit and publish your videos .. not even a couple thousand dollars, a $500 phone can do all the job for you.
Loved his little jokes, and Jedi Kittens? Genius!
I love how he's so humble and appreciates every opportunity he has. Good job Zach, you're very inspiring!
This is why creative content on the internet is so important. Often times content creators are criticized for using the internet as a "get rich quick" kind of thing, but really it is a way to connect creators to an audience that wants to watch/hear/read etc. the content you produce. If you have an idea, you get to skip the working your way up to something you actually want to do, and do it. The illusion of ease in terms of creating successful content is a myth, but it allows your ideas to get out to people who appreciate them.
one of the few speeches I've been inspired by. great job Zach
it's great that he's a normal person just like all of us sitting behind her screams watching this video and after this video we could do exactly what he did and we could do exactly what he's doing right now on the screen

Beautiful amazing story. Thank you, bless you. All your dreams come true.
I just realized how similar this is to how I feel... Born and raised right near Portland, into film, and would love to live and go to some sort of film school either in or near LA. This is super cool to me how Zach was born and raised right near me and our idea of what we want/wanted to do out of highschool (I'm a freshman haha), glad to be watching this right now. Great TED talk :)
Good stuff Zach. You are a positive and inspirational guy and deserve your success.

Yeah but everyone can create, so tons of people do so. That means that out of all those people, only a few will actually be successful. The others will stay unnoticed, make no money, feel useless and give up. That's just reality.
