Nice bit of kit.
I was lent one last year to try for a week. Fantastic tool, I was very impressed. However, I only fit bathrooms and most of my work is in tight spots with an emphasis on hiding pipes in whatever space is available. The tool is too large for these situations so I still had to deal with blowtorch and fire safety. I simply have no room for two sets of pipe jointing. But if I ever got into 1st fixing on new builds, it'll be a no brainer.

I'm still in the mental stage of planning how I want to redo my pipe works. I'm in the states. It's either going to be Pex, or copper with crimp fittings like this. I used to be a pvc/cpvc guy but now I'm old enough to have directly experienced how it becomes brittle and I don't like that. I do electrical as well and being able to run Pex like NM wire has serious advantages in my eyes, in terms of just being quicker and easier and perhaps even getting a cleaner looking result. and I forgot to mention that copper can be tricky for someone not a professional at it, and I don't need pin holes 5 or 10 years down the line which is why the crimp is appealing even though I can solder
In principal are these compression fittings?
What are your thoughts on the M and V profiles? As I understand it the V is better yet the Z-press only available with M
We did the waste for an RAF base in 1.5 and 2 inch stainless crimp at their request, I quite enjoyed it, better than the usual solvent weld stuff we do on jobs. We just hired the tool and heads and it was pretty easy given I'd never done any before.

How much for a fully working kit from them. All the bits you'd need for your day to day?
I’ve never used pressfit but I definitely think it might be something I’m gonna have to get in to due to the no hot works issues. I’d like to hear from guys that do a lot of boiler installs. How do you find it for instance when doing a combi swap? I fit logics and the pre-made tails bring you off the wall at Clíp distance. Are these jaws small enough to get in between the vertical pipes as they run up the wall and behind the pipe at Clíp distance?
@SkillBuilder
11 ай бұрын
Most of that pipework can be pre-fabricated and clipped to the wall. It just requires a slightly different approach but it works fine
I still think soldered columns of copper pipework including parallel cross overs and especially street fittings just look more neater compact and professional. I do agree though that press fittings are useful on long pipe runs and under floorboards and attics where they could be the likelihood of a fire. Just my own opinion very good video.
Biggest advantage over solider was not mentioned . You can connect one pipe to the fitting at a time . ie Two pipes of a tee then add to set up with the last one . 100% would have one if I was trade but as a DIYer will have to stick to my Rothenberger just due to price .

I didn't say that it needs to be callibrated every six months because it isn't true. There is a counter on the tool which tells you when it is due for a service. If you reached that number in a week then you would have to send it in but for a lot of people it might be a year or even two.

I share your concern and have looked into the lifespan of EPDM 'O' rings in the past and all I can say is that they will outlast most of the people doing the job. Far less demand I expect. I also presume these are a calibrated compression tool to ensure the pressure applied is within the correct tolerance for ensuring a tight fit without crushing the fitting - the R&D and manufacturing tolerances etc will need recovering to make this profitable.

How long does the o-ring last?
@SkillBuilder
11 ай бұрын
I have looked at this subject across several sources. EPDM 'O' rings are said to be good for at least 50 years. Of all 'O' ring material it is one of the most durable. The press fit locks the pipe to the fitting so there is zero movement on the pipe where it enters the 'o' ring. Just keep them away from hydrocarbons. Also avoid mechanical damage when assembling or storing fittings.

Roger, compared to something like the REMS Akku press, which is more than twice the price of the Z-Press it's a bargain. Unexpectedly B&Q seem to be the cheapest retailer for the Z-Press at the moment.
