Z-Man ChatterBait Micro - To the Rescue!

In this 9 November 2023 excursion to a 15 ac lake/pond in Vernon County, MO, the crappie fishing objective was a big flop, but a couple of Mr. Bs - largemouth bass - showed up and saved the day.
The water level was disappointingly low and the plethora of brush piles and lay downs that typically hold a lot of fish were practically on the bank, high and dry.
Weather was quite chilly at the start of the day and the N winds made gloves necessary.
A variety of lures were employed; but nonetheless fishing was really slow. A few dink crappie were caught on a Z-Man Shad FryZ in open water but that's it. "Bait and Switch" was employed to try different lures and presentations to find something they wanted.
Eventually a few bass were located here and there and finally a nice 19" one jumped on a 'slicked down' Chatterbait Micro with a 3" Slim SwimZ. The lure was bumped along the bottom in about 4 feet of water. Another heavy fish grabbed this lure and took me for a ride before it got off.
As the 3 p.m. departure time neared, another nice 18" bass topped off the excursion.
Per usual, Rudie Tootie (Mr. Outfitter) provided an assist LoL.

Thanks so much Virgillio. The low water level in this pond made it a challenge to find the fish. I may have been more successful with the crappie if I'd used minnows. Hope all's well on your end. Have a wonderful week, Don

Ha, I have seen the weather you and the guys fish in and have concluded that you are all vikings 😂! We've had a crazy roller coaster temperatures thing this month so when this colder, breezy day showed up I wasn't acclimated. I spent most of the day switching lures and casting without catching and would have stayed longer except for the recent time change and short day. You know what it's like to finally break the code and then have to go. The fish you chase are amazing and I hope you continue the hot streak. Best wishes, Don

Ha, thanks PFF. Yes, Rudie is underpaid for sure, but he has good benefits like a warm room and board, utilities paid and free grooming (as far as he knows) 😊😊. We have control of the treat jar so he's not going on strike any time soon.... Glad you enjoyed the show. When I revisit this pond (after it hopefully fills up again) it will be a totally different story as there's lots of great structure/fish hotels on the banks. Best wishes, Don

@panfishin-fool8057 Next up vid should be interesting PFF. Z-Man released several nifty new finesse and micro finesse lures and I'm in the process of showcasing them. The fish are always in control of this effort! Next up should be the new Micro GOAT.

@@Winkiedoodles the micro goat also ballerz. Ive only tried the ballerz so far and boy let me tell ya the crappie just can't resist it lol. Try it on the 1/16th Oz chatterbait. Irresistible 👌🏾🎣

Thank you, David and it is great to hear from a central Floridian. Our weather here in W central Missouri is quite a bit different from yours and I'm already anticipating icy or frozen conditions for these local waters. We don't have the frozen ice fishing conditions like the northern states get and that's ok because sitting in a hut fishing a hole cut into the ice sounds mighty cold! Hi Don, comparing with lake joy, when the lake gets some water it should be great. Good show and two Moby Dick monster bass. Good thing Rudy helped you out selecting your treasure chest of lures! 😅. I did freeze watching the water with the wind…ha ha 😊. Thanks for the good show ❤ RTR

Thanks, Sis. I wonder how much water is in Lake Joy? Both this place and LJ have some dandy bass and crappie. Rudie Tootie is an amazing outfitter and such a great help 😅😅😅. It's fun to get ready for a trip because he's always about a foot away watching what is going on. I can't predict what fishing will be like for the near future since we haven't had rain. I'll be checking out a favorite old spot in Pettis County soon to see what is up. Big bass, crappie and BG place with a lot of normally shallow water that may or may not be choked with lily pads. 😂 thank you and hope you enjoyed the show, John. Overall I was happy with three 15+ inch bass and the 19" was excellent. I think there's some really good fishing in this pond when there's some higher water levels. Guess I'll have to wait for the rain to fix this problem! Best wishes, Don
