YZF600 valve lash check.wmv

I started to do a valve adjustment but found out they were not out of adjustment. So it's more of a tutorial in how and what you check when checking the valve lash.

Everything done correct. Except. U should check clearance with diff sizes. Too loose means valve can drop and hit piston. Too tight valve not opening all the way. You want a slight tug when your checking clearance. And they won't "tick" if loose. Yamaha's make a ticking sound anyway. They call it the "Yamaha tick". That sound is the cam chain. No mechanical problems though. Yamaha's have always done this. Good video. At least you maintain your bike unlike others.

can i ask a stupid question or a noob question....... if you are just replacing shims with new ones do you have to do all the maths or can you just put new shims in check if the gaps back to original size and away you go..........

You can wap the valve cover with a rubber mallet pretty softy on all four sides and 99% of them pop off.

Not trying to bust your chops , but you didn't prep your job properly . You should have taken your air blower , brake cleaned or washed before pulling the dirty carbs and v-cover . You left open uncovered air boots with dirt all over them which will fall into the cylinders , plus you could drop a washer , bolt or other into them and then ruin the engine when fire it up . Hope this helps in the future ! Also ,I've been turning wrenches for 42 years and never heard of what you call "Yamaha Tick" . With any v-adjust you need to make sure if the settings are done hot or cold , to tight means possibly causing a burnt valve or worse !

Don't want to tell you how to suck eggs, but you have checked nothing apart from the valves are fully closed. Anthony, how long have you been a motorcycle mechanic? you are completely wrong.
