    What a voice. I'm so glad that he's back doing what he does best, spread joy with amazing songs. I remember when he became a Muslim and stopped playing music. It made no sense for a religion that is supposed to be all about joy forbidding him from making people happy. You can also tell that he is as happy to perform as we are to see/hear him perform.

    Dear Steve, the last time you came to Chile, we met and, on my Ovation guitar, you wrote to me: "Archi, with peace, keep the faith."You autographed and dated it. (02/28/15). This Gibson model includes an interior label hand signed by you and there will only be 50 units in the world! Very few will be lucky. But, by your great kindness, none as much as me. Thanks again dear Steve.

    Years ago my husband asked me what was my favorite Cat Stevens’ song. Without thinking, I said The Wind. Later, I reflected on my answer, and I wasn’t sure why I first thought of this song. I’m still not sure, but it seems to speak of important things to me. Thank you, Yusuf.

    Yusuf, you've been the most sincere song writer I've ever heard. Father & Son has long been my favorite song along with Where Do the Children Play and Morning Has Broker. It seems that your songs are universal and will live on forever. I started writing heartfelt songs because of you and every time I finish one I savor the beauty and magic of music. I am a lonely singer, not singing in a band but like you I mean every word I sing even if no one but me hears it. You're a beautiful person and like you I've also suffered loss when my youngest son passed just 8 months ago. So of course I wrote a song about it and cried through every line. Please keep inspiring others. Please keep writing. Music is love. Your fan and distant friend Mike.

    I ordered a Yamaha acoustic guitar and a professional tambourine I've wanted for many years, and the tambourine arrived yesterday. I played it all day and night to many songs, and was thinking about how music is so beautiful and the most important thing there is in reality- It is and always has been played everywhere by every culture, and fills everything- the air, the heart, touching the moods of others softening our hearts to each other, to spirit, and to create this intangible expansively beautiful experience which has the power to touch everything and everyone within its sound- all one needs is an instrument, and a singer his/her voice.

    The song Longer Boats was his song that touched me the most as a teenager. Very moving spiritually. Actually, in quite simple lyrics, it captures a profound longing for meaning. A search for intimate understandings. In fact, the entire album of Tea For The Tillerman was and remains a pure masterpiece. The apex of Cat Stevens’ musical work.

    I’ve always wondered… does even Cat Stevens himself look back on his young life and wonder how in the world he came up with all those beautiful songs out of thin air? Why does such creativity ever stop? Do you think you could still be so creative? I’ve always wondered why innate creativity generally shows up when people are relatively young, and seems to disappear as they get older. Why is that?

  • @Caperhere

    @Caperhere

    I was actually reading about that very subject a while ago. Paul Simon’s memoir talks about there being two kinds of artists. The first is as you mentioned. Creativity can come in a sort of tide, then goes away. But another kind of artist continues to create all through their lives. Makes sense. Paul Simon has never stopped exploring and making music.

  • @pocopico7409

    @@Caperhere: Yes, but generally, they never seem to come close to doing what they did in their younger lives…not only quantity, but quality as well. Paul Simon and Paul McCartney are perfect examples. And Cat, of course. I’ve just never really understood why it happens. It’s like the majority of creativity that a person is capable of flows out of them like an open spigot when they’re young, and then slowly, it’s just turned off.

    Paul Simon has also married people that are musicians (he's married to Edie Brickell now) and that helps keep it alive where as if your spouse is not a musician, you may tend to eventually go another directions with that person. I think that has much to do with it. some people just develop other interests later in life. I've gone back between music and photography. People just have other interests too. Doesn't mean they're not creative in other ways.

    I think creativity is linked to curiosity and imagination. The once freethinking seeker Cat Stevens renounced music when he became a Muslim, and traded poetry for piety, questioning for dogmatic assumed certainty. He abandoned his muse, and when he decided to take up music again decades later and reached out for her, she was long gone.
