One of my ‘absolute favorite’ musicians of all times. Flutes, saxophones, oboe, and many other instruments, he and Rahsaan. Cannot say enough. Thanks for posting this treasure of a performance,,,,,,,,,,,
A complete master. He was 51 during this recording in 1971. I probably have listened to this tune thousands of time!
Nobody.....and I mean NOBODY is to the Blues what Yusef is to the blues and I can't imagine anyone else who can play the shit out of the blues with the feeling like he can. He's also an amazing player of dozens of other instruments including Oboe, Flute, Argol, and many other instruments. He was a master and a scholar and a teacher and one of the few tenor saxophonists with a tremendous, huge, soulful tone quality that could make the glasses shake and rattle on the bar when he blew! I love Yusef, may he be at peace in whatever realm or universe or dimension he finds himself in during this moment.

Dig this, younger than me person- I got "demerits", in deep ca-ca round bout early 70's for playing Yusef's music- I think the album had a Buddah on the cover- but the colour blue comes to my cob-webbed mind too- the volume was up there and I was "groovin" to these unique sounds- a student project and none of us were much into jazz- very small, square-ball, Canadian city included a smaller, VERY unenlightened college- Communication Arts, Journalism degree, included then though was "Be A D.J. ie Radio Arts! My "program" selected from The Big Music Room Library- close your eyes and select! Up came the wonderful Yusef Lateef and friends- as I listen I go back in time, smiling with my sleep disorder on pause! Wow! I should be wearing my lime green Frank Zappa tee shirt! Wow, wow. Is it African? I don't know. All I know is it pleases the soul...I'm as happy as that bass player- yes !!! Dumb college- I dropped out, became a "best selling" house-frau-d and later, went to university...Wherein Yusef would have been accepted as "just jazz" - if it ain't The Surf Boys, back at that college- blond, rhymes, bridge with more than 1 chord- who knows...my surfer girl and all that dribble, babble, yawn, quel bore...NOW THIS IS MUSIC TO LIVE TO, I dislike the phrase "to die for" - not cool-

Wrong continent, my friend. Blues is an American invention and has nothing to do with Africa or any other place.
👍💯💯💯👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎷🎷🎷🎷🎷🤘🤘🤘

Anyone know of one of his songs that have the lyrics.... Hey Baba Reeba
It is not Bob Cunningham on bass. I believe it is Wayne Dockery.
