Yurumein: Himnos Garifunas de Livingston, Guatemala (Elvira Alvarez)
Cantos principales del ritual Yurumein de los garifunas de Livingston, Guatemala. Doña Elvira Alvarez de Ciego es actualmente la referente gayusa (canto ceremonial transmitido por los espíritus de los ancestros). En una serie de entrevistas realizadas por Augusto Pérez Guarnieri entre 2010 y 2017, se han documentado gran parte de los cantos ceremoniales y seculares de su amplio repertorio, no sólo de los que le han sido relevados a ella sino a las generaciones anteriores de cantoras gayusa, lo que da cuenta de una tradición oral transmitida exitosamente desde las generaciones primigenias. Luego de una breve presentación, se incluyen los cantos con subtitulado en idioma garifuna y español, así como imágenes del ritual Yurumein en la localidad de Livingston donde se puede apreciar el ritmo hüngühüngü interpretado por los garawouns (tambores) y sisiras (sonajas).Como parte de un proyecto de tesis doctoral en curso y en consideración del deseo manifestado por Doña Elvira de que estos cantos sean difundidos, presentamos este video inédito en el marco de las actividades de la cátedra y de la tesis doctoral "Lanigi Garawoun (Corazón Tambor): Música, espiritualidad y etnicidad en los garífunas de Guatemala".
