Nice video. I would like to point out you can replace the variator without removing the clutch. You just move the belt out of the way with your hand.

Thank you. I lost ALL my footage of my install. And your editing was much better than mine was going to be.

Still debating whether to do this or not since I am not too concerned about speed, but quicker acceleration wouldn't hurt. I tried watching the video Swap Shop made, but it's hard to follow what he was doing cause they were all over the place. Appreciate the focus on the actual process, thanks. Also...when I check their site they are always out of stock on things. Can you get this stuff anywhere else?

You can get it directly from yuminashi! www.yuminashi.eu/variator-parts-105/ its a no brainer if you want better acceleration. Slight hit to mpg but nothing crazy. I think my average mpg dropped by about 5-7

It really depends on what rollers and variator you are using and equally importantly how you drive your scooter. Honda maintenance calls for I believe 8k mile belt replacements. Checking your rollers then would be a good idea. Or go with sliders and they won’t wear out.

Excellent tutorial video! What made you choose Yuminashi over Dr. Pulley?

Thanks for the video. Question for you please, what year is your ADV? I have a '13. I bought a Yuminashi variator kit and it's labeled 2018+ (22111-K97-CNC). I know the engine received some changes that year, but no idea if the variator sizing remained the same.

I think the 12 grams that came with the yuminashi worked better than the 14gram dr pulleys. I wish i could have tried 13 gram dr pulleys i feel like that may have been the magic bullet

They come standard with 10 gram rollers and it whines the engine up to much. I understand you were able to select 12 gram when your ordered yours. I installed their new variator on my 160. I tried the 10 gram it came with and it was not good, I put 13 gram Dr pulley sliders on a few days later and now it’s very good.

Does adding this void the warranty?

I think it really comes down to the issue resulting in you seeking a warranty claim. Super easy to reinstall stock parts before headed to dealership with issues if need be just to be safe.

If you’re okay with losing about 10 mpg in the name of acceleration then yes!

Not only does the Yuminashi website state that the "T" get installed at the 12 o'clock position, it is to be done that way while the crank is in the TDC position. So my question is: how did you determine that the crank was in the TDC position? I must add that I personally can't see any reason for that, and makes no sense to me, since the movable face plate (the rear face plate, I don't know what it is actually called) is not splined to permanently remain in that position, and is subject (I think) to move around on the "boss". Good job on the install, I have installed one as well, but of course based on my comments above, was confused about what TDC had anything to do with the installation or performance. Wish I had the weather you have to enjoy more riding time.

Ah, I see. Well then hopefully I got lucky haha. Only thought I have is that maybe the Variator plate turns over predictably based on the timing of the pistons as the engine is cranking and stays in sync with the stroke? I am going to shoot a note to scooter swap to get feedback from someone that knows more than me!

@@motohound90 Sounds like a good explanation and would be interested in their response. There are a couple of ways that I know to determine TDC. One is to move the radiator out of the way and look at the cooling fan (or even behind it) for the TDC marks. Two, is to pull the plug behind the plug access plate, and find TDC based on the piston position, looking through the spark plug hole. What I am most curious about, and can't find anything on it, is what is that punch mark on the end of the shaft is, where the variator slides on. My thought (or rather hope) is that it is a TDC position indicator. But, I can't find ANYTHING on it. I have the same manual you do, and I find it to be (in my opinion) the most lacking of details manual of all the manuals I have ever purchased. And maybe I am not looking in the right part of the manual, but I really want to know what that punch mark is.

End the end of the crankshaft where you place the variator. There is a dot. Align the T on the dot when you install it
