I agree! While I feel like fan games like .flow try to be very gruesome, this game has an unexplainable psychological horror to it with its liminality and things just seeming downright off. But then there are moments like this that look straight out of a nightmare, but not of anything you would expect.

This is an incredibly sad game. I didn't expect the ending :(

There's SO many events in the White Desert. Thanks for sharing this video! Even if you didn't exactly show all of them... ^^; In fact, I believe there was supposed to be an effect called "monochrome" which makes you grayscale in appearance. (Sort of like Ghost Madotsuki in Mini Hell.) But sadly, Kikiyama decided to scrap it out of the game... I guess he thought the effect was irrelevant.

The thing is, there was no 8-but version made of it, like how some of the other scrapped effects have. This has lead some people to believe that that was how Madotsuki was going to look in the White Desert.

The designs in the first room at the beginning of the video are interesting to me, the majority of the imagery in-game seems to be modeled on ancient Andean civilizations like the Nazca and Paracas cultures, but these remind me much more of Polynesian designs, specifically the Māori from New Zealand.

The White Desert is my favorite place in Yume Nikki.

i watched this video around when it was first uploaded, this is insanely nostalgic for me & i remember that this game caused a massive impact on me back then and still does. it's just so wonderful

My theory was that Monoe is responsible for the possible death of Monoko (her being all mangled up and stuff), and blaming Madotsuki for it, hence just smirking to her and leaving her all by herself. So Madotsuki has to deal with all the guilt and confusion because no one believes it's not her fault ^^ Perhaps they were friends or family.

I know this is 7 years old but your theory does make sense, because Mado turning into a stoplight for the change to occur in the dream world can imply that she had a part in Monoko's death irl. My idea is that the two of them were about to cross the road and Mado somehow causes Monoko go into the road just when the light turns red, resulting in a car accident.

Now that I notice, Monoko doesn't wear shoes, only socks; could be related to how people in japan usually take their own lives by leaving their shoes behind them; perhaps she could actually be a symbolism of Madotsuki?

I think Monoko is a representation of her (Madotsuki's) deep disgust towards her physical look. If you pay attention, the white desert thematic is full of body horror, that possibly could mean she sees the human body like that, repulsive and ugly or maybe the entire specie as ugly and horrible. Monoe possibly could be a reprrsentation of an old friend who betrayed her. I think that because when Madotsuki tries to interact to her she just evades her with a crooked smirk. Possibly can be this but man, you know, the dream world can be confusing and weird, maybe this means a complete different thing.

Anyone seen a big hot air balloon thing just float by when you randomly walk around in this zone

The boi is modeled after a fetus afflicted with TRAP syndrome. Dont google it unless you wanna see a fetus that didn't grow a head or arms. Its just a bulbous mass of flesh, bone, and organs with legs.

If I recall correctly it is a very low chance for it to appear but every footstep you make triggers the chance for the effect

It's pretty rare to the point you may as well hack the game to make him show up. Tako is rare enough that you'd be wasting way to much time for that thing just to record them on video.

That's probably a event that haves a CRAZY chance of happening 1/3600 chance of happening, that thing is supposed to be a baby with trap syndrome. yep.

This is a nice game.

You know, I haven't actually played all that much Yume Nikki; sure I've picked it up from time to time over the years but it's never been one of my main interests… except this place. There's something about the White Desert that I just find _fascinating,_ and it's really rubbed off on me. I've never really been the type to stick to one artistic medium long enough to really get good at it, but it seems like whatever medium I'm working in, I always come back to it: the enormous, empty landscape; the strange limb-like formations; the palette of exactly three colors, white, black, and a sparingly-used bright red; the juxtaposition of surreal body horror with almost cartoonish design, like a toddler evoking the most horrific imagery of Giger using a box of crayons. I can't really think of any other vision that's stuck with me in the same way the White Desert has. It's just a terrible shame it's so hard to actually _get_ there.

Is it weird that this area reminds me of some dreams I've actually had??

You will eventually come across it. The thing is, you have to first go through the Teleport Maze, which leads you to the FC Dungeon Maze. It's somewhere in there.

You have to get to the Famicom world dungeon. Eventually if you go the right way, the last room will become monochrome, and take you there Don't ask the way though, I'm still trying to find it lol

What about the thing with the quivering jaw

at 2:12, you see that box with the eye on top? Stab it a bunch of times.
