@@Ohmman It's hard to transform 2d pixel art into 3d. It's like a scary book compared to a movie. Most of the feeling comes by imagination more than the visuals. In horror less is always more. Props to them, it was actually a good scene.

Honestly, It's a lot creepier because, while this time It's 3D, you still don't get a good look at the thing. In the original, it was a clear, although abstract, image that, although strange and surreal, you still got a good look at. In Dream Diary, you see a fuzzy giant shape, spewing out an orange-red liquid every now and then. But you're still not sure what you are seeing. It's fuzzy because It's far away, making it clear how humongous it is. You see it doing... Things. And that's all that is easy to make out. So your mind might fill in the blanks. But you still don't quite know what your looking. _And that's terrifying._

It's also _creepier_ because now you don't get a good look at it, letting your mind fill in the blanks, or at least, if you haven't see it before...

I feel like they could have done a bit more with Uboa in 3D. I love how the girl whom Uboa takes the place of is given a bit more character with her at her desk and how the lamp turns off when you flip the switch too much. But you don't even see Uboa unless you use a lantern to where the girl was. And when you get there, having to chase Uboa down is not as creepy as seeing multiple Uboas in the foreground. But if there is one good thing I can say, it's that at least the background ghost looks great in 3D

While the event as a whole could be better, the beast in the background was actually creepy in this version. It was unnerving in the original. Off-putting, but also just confusing. Here, seeing it moving as an entity is... freaky.

The background looks fantastic.

I personally don't like jumpscares but I think they should have kept the uboa jumpscare, and then, teleport Madotsuki in that room.

I just finished this game in switch and I love it. The original marked my life, and though this one does not offer the same experience is still a great one and I think it got me to understand both better. I feel like there is a "fighting your fears" theme overall, but pointing the specific in this room: you still have your jumpscare when you first enter without your lantern and only catch a glimpse of Uboa. I think is realistic it is so terrible you only need a glimpse, but later, you come to face it, and even use it to your advantage (the mask).

I just saw a stream of the original yume nikki and then saw this. I gotta say, this is probably creepier. People saying that this isn’t nearly as scary as the original only think that because they are holding on to their original reaction to Uboa from the original, the reason they don’t think it’s as scary is because they already know what Uboa is. Actually, in the stream I watched of the original game, people thought he did the Uboa event wrong because they “remember it being scarier”.

I just feel like the shock value in uboa's appearance in this isn't remotely as jarring. The lights go out and you're transported to uboa's trap and don't even see him in the room he initially appears in. In the original, the music gets hellish, the room becomes distorted, you cant leave, and the light switch flashes. The atmosphere in 3d is done well but it doesn't feel the same at all

@@MVCx_xB Exactly. Newer isn't always better. A lot of old games are creepy BECAUSE of how mysterious they are. They don't need to hold the player's hand so they can leave you wondering what's "supposed" to happen.

I just think that this version of the event is too drawn out, and has less shock value. Neither are particularly scary, but this one... Like... He's tiny and you can just walk away from him and he's a wee dot.

Let's be honest here, it's mostly because of the loud, sudden sound that comes out of nowhere in a calm place and then ends up in a much messier thing. The devs weren't trying hard enough imo

To he fair Uboa isn't scary in either game if you know what's going to happen. Just basically everyone who played this had already played the original so it was expected.

I can't believe it took me this long to realise this, but is Uboa a reference to No Face from Spirited Away? It came out just before Yume Nikki and the 3-d model in this game really shows the similarity!

Not as scary, but definetly just as awesome, also, am i the only one who thinks Uboa looks more... friendly on this?

Kinda fits. Last I remembered, Uboa wasn't really hostile in any way- in fact, he only teleports you to the Hell world when _you_ interact with _him._ he was a pretty unnerving encounter, but that's about it.

Gotta be honest, I'm fine with the fact everything gets dark all of the sudden and you have to go with the lamp, it helps to build tension; but I think it would have been better if there wasn't a load screen in middle, it should've changed with a quick flash of light, only to show us a big Uboa in middle of the scenary. I like how you have to chase him and how dark the sky looks, but it should have kept the loud music from the original and the scenary should have been like water, but white and keeping the wet sounds everytime Madotsuki walks. The giant creature on the background is perfect I wouldn't change that.

SO PERFECT except.... uboa is still.. a bit dissapointing, why does it glitch out? and suddenly teleport? i know its coded to do that but... its not scary also why can you just... walk up to uboa like its not a threat at all? in the original game, uboa felt so hostile with the camera shake and the loud loud screaming sounds it was such a nerving thing to finally build the courage and walk up to it, but now? it seems silly.. also i bet if any newcomers to the game saw this event.. they would not realize the connection between poniko and uboa, which was THE MOST popular and creepy about the game just.. stick to the way the original did it... the only good thing i guess is that you have uboa's mask as an effect referencing back the yume nikki manga where madotsuki's face turned into uboa's as she became corrupt

The inventory in original looks better. The remake looks like a pain to toggle with. This game needs more fixes then ever. Also Uboa has two emotions smiling and disappointed awkward frown. Though the remake is missing the disappointed awkward frown of Uboa when she gets touched. This might be a lost opportunity to add two faces by doing the door trick and the other is just being in the room (which the game already has) while using the light switch. One which completely darkens the room (fear and silence) or the other brightens room (Surprise and loud) There are two optional Masks of Uboa if the Devs update it again?! It maybe possible to add? ...

Haven't played the Switch version (yet) but... You must have the lamp and use the lamp in the dark towards Poniko's desk in order to have a button prompt appear, which will transport you to Uboa's area. (otherwise you will just get the normal "jumpscare"... which I believe is required to beat the game anyways as the "world" isn't completed without it) Otherwise if you don't use the lamp, you'll just be thrown out of the dream and back to the real world.

Yes as it got the Kikiyama's blessing to be made, but... A lot of people do not like it due to it being closer to a Limbo/Inside rip off, but with a Yume Nikki skin to it. (Honestly I do get the developers trying to "streamline" the game as they wouldn't think a game that is just "walking everywhere" with only the story being interpreted not selling well... but it made the game sell worse I think since everyone hated it, fans and people new to the series)

you should play a game called The Indigo Parallel it is super weird

Uboa is scarier in the original. The background monster is scarier in this version.

So I recently finished yume nikki the original one, have to say the uselessness but also unnerving nature of the entire uboa event is so characterstic in here I like that it gives you (what I assume to be is) an effect but the entire scene feels a bit too void if I'm being honest

The Switch version has the latest version (including a few extra things the PC didn't get iirc as I remember the Switch version had more button prompts I think?) Just this requires you to have the lantern and to keep it out to interact with the desk in the dark (which most likely on your first visit you won't have it since it's in one of the last areas of the game)
