Yuja Wang, Leonidas Kavakos and Gautier Capuçon play the Tchaikovsky's Trio opus 50. With score.
This work, written as a funeral tribute to Nicolas Rubinstein, is very Schumanian, with its eruptions of forced joy, which prepare the return of despair. In spite of some lengths, it wins the adhesion by its emotional power. Yuja's admirers cannot help but appreciate the souplesse of her playing when she is in an accompanying role, and the exquisite beauty of the passages offered to the solo pisno (the theme of the second movement, and a very Chopin-like mazurka in the 10th variation).

Why describe the music as 'Schumanian' and 'Chopin-like'? This is an incredibly moving masterpiece of music by Tchaikovsky. He alone takes the credit.

Musicians do not live in a bubble. Tchaikovsky was well-versed in the music of his predecessors and learned and was influenced by them. As ALL great musicians were; no shame in that, and no disrespect to their own individual accomplishments beyond the models.
Note that this is the performance from the Verbier Festival last year (Eglise de Verbier 29 July 2022)
