I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Man I didn't know it I text me to leach I have to acquire some of those! Great info Matt. Congratulations on a good tournament and an amazing season. That reminds me of a story when we were kids and my cousin had a leech on his foot. We stopped at the closest neighbors house. And there were two guys outside that came to help us. One went inside to get matches. And the other went to get gas. First guy came out and poured gas on it when the next guy came out of the house and said I got matches and it seems like he was striking them on his way over LOL needless to say we stopped him and he did not burn my cousin alive. But it was a hilarious story

The old school reaper has been a split shot favorite of mine since I first bought a couple when I was like 7. I always have a stash for tough days. I use oversized ones on heavy jigs for musky every year. I'm in SE Wisconsin. Lives leeches catch everything that swim, but I'm always looking for plastics that are good imitators. The gulp ones work, but those Kitech ones look interesting.

Do you find that the Gulp baits do better because of the scent? I've been using their saltwater baits lately trying to catch flounder. The flounder seem to be somewhere else, but I get lots of bites from other species. I definitely get less bites on other other types of baits even if I put scent on them. The tails get bitten off, which is annoying but telks me that my bait is attractive to fish.

Live leeches have been a staple walleye bait for ages. After being in the jungle I'd rather not touch one ever again. Soft plastic is another story. I've several bags on the boat. The leech I think is somehow related to the lamprey. Talk about a nasty critter, that would be the lamprey. Their both damn blood suckers! But yes they are fish catchers.

That reminds of the time when I was a young boy and my family went fishing and we used live leeches as bait. My uncle picked this giant honking leech, put it on his hook, and cast out in the water. After a while he noticed his line acting funny so he picked up his rod and started to reel it in. There was a large channel catfish on the end of his line, but it wasn't hooked. That leech had reached out and attached itself to the fish and just never let go! Damndest thing I ever saw!
