If you listen carefully, he usually raises some instrument's volumes at key parts of the music when it should get more attention. Fontaine is the first one where I hear most of the instruments with more or less the same volume.

From the few Fontaine themes I listened to, they all still feel like they're part of hoyomix's style. It's sad to see YPC leave the team, but I wish all the best for his future creations, and for everyone to keep supporting the other composers on the team. There are very few fontaine ost that compare to porto omos, and sumeru bangers. Even some currents demo osts from other regions. Im just glad he is going to star rail team, because they are fr the real step up in ost compared to genshin

Also note that fontaine’s ost was done without yu peng chen, so hoyomix is still in good hands. Still sad to see him leave, wish him the best in his future projects

not gonna lie, I noticed differences with Fontaine's music prior to knowing it was composed without yu pengcheng. It sounds like someone tried to mimick his composition style. I will never hear genshin's music the same way again.

I got scared by the sad news, but seeing a lof of my favorite soundtracks actually made by other composers and not only yu-peng chen just relieved that concern, the soundtrack team is going to do well We'll miss yu-peng chen anyways :[ But atleast everything is not over

This game has hundreds of OSTs, it's impossible for one person to compose all of them. Chen is not even the Music Director of miHoyo, Jinhan Cai is. As long as Cai doesn't leave his position, I still have my faith in hoyo's music.

Yes, there were other composers, but Yu-Peng Chen mainly composed almost 80% to 90% of the memorable tracks in Genshin from Mondstadt, Liyue, Dragonspine, Golden Apple, Inazuma & early updates of Sumeru. Even most of the popular character demo music themes (such as Zhongli’s, Nahida’s, Venti’s, Eula’s, Klee’s, Itto’s, Tartaglia’s, Kokomi’s, Xiao’s, Albedo’s, Raiden’s, Alhaitham’s, Ganyu’s, HuTao’s) were mainly composed by Yu-Peng Chen.

I am heartbroken as the Fatui themes shall no more have his voice however I trust the Hoyo Mix team… goodbye Mr Chen! Thank you for your work ❤

Ziyu Che is such a talented person. She also sang the HI3 song “De Capo” and she also reportedly gave vocals for Ayaka’s animated short (the one where she gives vision) also, the Fontaine underwater vocals. Yu-Peng Chen is EXTREMELY talented man, we will miss him for sure but Hoyo-mix is made from so many talented composers and amazingly talented people and i wish the goddamn Spotify would credit them so that people would know that Yu-Peng Chen didn’t work alone an all OST’s Edit: i have mistaken the composer first time 🙏🏻 nonetheless they are both brilliant

I think you’re referring to Ziyu Che. She did the vocals for “De Capo” and vocals for several tracks in Genshin. She’s also a composer in Genshin now, too.

After what? 3 years of experiencing chen’s amazing excellent inspirational work, he deserves my bias. i don’t care what other people say. his compositions are superior than other composers’ work at hoyomix. but this is not to say the other composers are inferior. no, far from it. many of their compositions are amazing too. but chen is chen. He is the better composer. probably the best in genshin. there’s good, better, best. And chen is the best. a loss like chen will have repercussions whether we like it or not. and if fontaine music is our measure, then it shows. It can’t be denied. fontaine music is good, but I would not say it’s the best. Is it because chen was not involved in fontaine’s music? Yes. I will not sugarcoat it. Yes. So while fontaine music is good, it would definitely be better if chen was involved.

But I think this topic is too subjective to say that Fontaine's music does not hold up to the others... Maybe Fontaine's ost would have been better with Yu Peng Chen still on the team, but I think it holds up with the rest of the game's osts, and I don't think Fontaine is a step down in quality. And I consider plenty of the osts on the list above to be just as good as what Yu Peng Chen wrote, if not better. Maybe we should just wait for Natlan to see what Hoyomix does.

Yu Peng Chen did an awesome job for 3 years and we will all be missing him. But as we saw there's still many incredibly talented people with HoyoMix so the music will not stall a single bit

It's a bit scary, considering he was the main composer during mondstandt which is my favourite region, but hearing he didn't do the work for Fontaine (allegedly) is actually a huge relief because Holy shit!! The Fontaine soundtrack amazing

I really respect Yu-Peng Chen if he want to pursue his dream around his music career. Good luck! I believe his role in early Genshin, his inspiration and his legacy is well understood by all HOYO-MIX team. Therefore I believe Genshin Impact music will even be getting better and better. 🧡

Honestly I'm glad to see you made this overview. A lot of Genshin's other music composers didn't get enough credit before so, it's great to see others reacting well to them. Unfortunate to see Chen Yu-Peng go, and he will be missed, but HoYo-MiX still had a lot of very talented composers left. ♡

Iirc Yu-Peng Chen stopped consistently making character themes since Yae Miko, and we still had absolute bangers. He is talented, but him leaving isn't the end of the world. HoyoMix is a team of people, not just a composer. Even superstars can't do anything without a good team

Those last two by Yijun Jiang always give me goosebumps, especially God-Devouring Mania. Such a good track. Very sad that the composer of Hustle and Bustle of Ormos is leaving though.

Clearly even without Him Amazing Tracks are Still Produced Like God Devouring Mania and Blazing Defense. There's a bunch of people bashing Fontaine's music in the comments section after finding out Yu Peng Chan didnt work on it, not realizing he didnt work on alot of tracks from the other regions either. Where were their complaints for those countless other tracks? Its only now that they notice a "drop in quality?" The only reason they find it more generic is becuse there arent Chinese, Japanese, or Middle Eastern Instruments to mix it with. These clowns, I swear.

Albums work best when multiple artists have the space to each create their own ideas Even if I can't tell the composers' styles apart, I can feel that there are more ideas circulating around now and I love that

yu peng is a great genius and will definitely be missed, but to think that without him genshin cant have good music is quite disrespectful to the hoyo mix team since they are practically assuming that yu peng was the only one with talent

since inazuma, hoyomix tracks been credited by various composers not just yupeng chen. fontaine music proves the team still doing their best

Thanks so much for including all those talented composers! It's sad they don't get recognition, hoyo-mix is really improving and imo since Millelith's watch till fontaine OST they have been doing the most fire work ever.

I'm very glad you publicised the other composers that work within HOYO-MiX for the Genshin soundtrack, as someone who greatly appreciates the music and analyses almost each track everytime I hear one in game while trying to figure out which composer it is as a challenge for myself (seriously i actually do this and most of my guesses are always wrong). I've especially grateful that you left God-Devouring Mania on for longer than usual in the previews for Yijun Jiang, as I personally believe that this specific track is their current magnum opus and should be so much more appreciated than it is.

I always found it strange that people only talk about Yu, it's not like he made the game's more than 600 OSTs, especially alone yes the guy is amazing but he was part of a team

That is really sad but since Fontaine OST was kunda released without him I hope for the best

I see a lot of people saying that Fontaine's music feels more generic. Well, because it kinda is. It's based on European styled music, that classical music we've all heard since we were born. It's going to sound fairly generic because that's what we've heard in everything everywhere. The other nations were based off of nations that didn't get a lot of attention worldwide (anime doesn't always count because it doesn't always use "the sound of Japan"). Sumeru's music was so fascinating because the countries it's based off of is music most of us have never heard before, so of course it'll stand out. Keep in mind the regions cultures. Fontaine's music is fantastic still, it just might sound familiar because it is, so it won't hit that itch of "I've never heard this before" for a lot of people, but that doesn't mean the music isn't good.

Enkanomiya, Sumeru Desert, the Warden Boss, and Fontaine all have amazing scores and they weren’t made by Yu-Peng

Yu-Peng Chen’s music was so important to the Genshin experience for me. It sucks that it’s over - and I’ll never hear his vision for the other regions. A lot of the music not done by him just doesn’t hit me as good, but it is what it is, I guess. Bummer. What a masterful musician.

Yunjin's theme is actually my favorite character theme of all that have been released so far. Of the ones mentioned here, I also quite enjoy those of Yoimiya, Thoma, Ayato, Yelan, Collei, Cyno, etc. I'm also really enjoying Fontaine's OST as a hoe for jazz lol. Thanks for pointing out these tracks. I have faith in Hoyo's music theme

Agree that there are good ost that was not composed by YPC. But the tracks you mentioned are individual osts. They dont tell a story and have no narrative. The usual ost of the game is the continuation of the picture, voicelines, text and gameplay. The most recent fontanian ost more often than not feels out of place. Some battle osts are rather suitable for dancing. I believe it would take some time for the current artists to keep up with YPC.

really sad, because Yu-Peng Chen in my opinion has been making best balance between using traditional instruments, acoustic ones, electrical ones and effects (DUB-STEP, EDM, Rock etc etc). REX INCOGNITO is just masterpiece that no Genshin demo music/character theme has surpased yet. Thou Yijun Jiang has nice sensibility too which prove his tracks! Still really one big loss for Hoyo-MIX and Genshin OST.. x/

YPC was a legend, but his last composed song for the game was Scaramouche, he's been tutoring the young talents in Hoyomix, don't you like the music in the latter half of Sumeru? Don't you like the music in Fontaine? I think the new talents at Hoyomix is carrying on the torch! Thanks YPC for the last 2 years and passing on his teaching to the Hoyomix.

Well i was thought Fontaine music also maded by YPC, but even at that time, i still think Fontaine music is beautiful but that is, something are lacking to me, anyway thats maybe just matter of preference, i think Fontaine music is beautiful, but its something that i can hear in many other place, unlike most of ost in previous regions

its sad to know he left hoyomix team, but hey that doesnt mean the music in game will be terrible from now on. give the other composers their time to shine too. if he doesnt left, all of us will thinking all of the music was made by him. i hate the fact that almost all ost that were released before, the people keep praising yu peng chen, although some ost werent made by himself, making other composers being shadowed by him. best of luck yu peng chen out there!

Real! Fontaine's Music Has Been a Banger so Far. And The Other composers Are Still Clearly Doing well so I have No Doubts that We'll get through this

I'm sure people are going to be more sceptical of the music in the near future without realizing that most of the music as of late hasn't been done by him already

Of course not having our archon with us on this boat is very very sad, but I think what's really upseting me is seeing that we are closer and closer to the finish line. Only two regions to go and I think that Yu-Peng Chen departing is very symbolic that things are going to end eventually. I love this game so so so much. It helped go through some really dark times and its music was a big part of it. Till this day the tracks of the Golden Apple Archipelago brings tears to my eyes. I was in such a dark place when that patch came out and the peace and sweetness of the music really helped go one day at a time. I work using a computer pretty much all day and I just love to listen to Genshin OSTs while doing it. But hey, this video proves that Hoyo-Mix is larger than Yu-Peng Chen and yes, he's a freaking legend, but we are in good hands with all the talented musicians that Hoyo is leading. I wish Yu-Peng Chen only the best and I hope he can see all the love the community has for him.

I'm very sad to see him leave after all the masterpieces, but HoYoMiX is a team composed of many people who work hard and make music for all of the hyv games It's going to be fine imo. The GOAT himself said he has trust in the team and that the new soundtracks are good. I wish YPC the best in the future of his career & I'm also supporting the other composers in HoYoMiX to keep giving us bangers!

Every one should respect Yu-Peng Chen's decision. It's not the end of the world that he left the team because there are a lot of talented composers in the hoyo mix team !! and as he said in his message, they are growing, they are learning and experimenting with different OST'S, their so talented and I wish the best for them and Yu-Peng Chen !!

Not all of the good music in Genshin Impact was created by him, quite a few were in fact composed by other members of Hoyo-Mix, it's just that here in the west everyone thinks that Yu-Peng Chen was the only one making music there. As a musician myself I say that this is a great loss for Genshin's artististic quality. I know there are other excellent composers in hoyomix team, but he was the mastermind behind all the greatest pieces in this game. The way he uses instrumentation (synthetic and acoustic), harmony and stiles from different cultures is unreal. He should be considered one of the greatest composers in the history of music.

I know, right? But then again, some of the greatest pieces actually were done by others, especially that battle music from Fichle's castle. That was probably one of my top five songs in the entire game. Then you have the absolute eargasm that is enkanomiya music, and some of the best trailer songs. Plus, he didn't do the music for the other two games and it's still exquisite. Hoyomix is in good hands.

Hopefully whatever he goes and whatever he does, he'll find success and appreciation. His work on GI is beyond phenomenal. Fontaine music was really beautiful even without him but this is still a loss for the fandom nonetheless. Big thank you to you Cat for giving recognition to these less known composers. This made me really happy that the music is still in good hands. Those examples you mentioned are some of the fandom's favorites. So here's to more beautiful music!

The only thing I would hope for is they would still bring back iconic themes like Zhongli theme's, like if he came back as a Archon or Raiden Shogun battle theme if Raiden Ei comes to protect us from the Abyss.

It's sad to see Yu-Peng Chen go, but the rest of the Hoyo-Mix team has created some bangers alongside him, so I'm not worried for the future of Genshin's music.

Honestly, it's annoying how many people act like this is the end of good music in the game. also, lmao. my every favourite ost is from other composers anyway. yoimiya, thoma, ayato, collei, candace, 3.7 trailer music and apep ost + whole fontaine music. so many taletned people are still there.

@@Jinni-iras17514 It's not a bait, in fact. Since music is extremely subjective, I didn't find Genshin's (or HOYO-mix's for that matter) that good. There are some tracks here and there, but that's it

What matters is that he's not dead. If he wants to rest, well, he's earned it. If he wants to continue composing, we'll see his work show up somewhere. I don't think we'll be out of good music.

well, inazuma has it's "Time to say farewell" theme and Sumeru has "For Riddles, for Wonders" and "Fresh Breezes of Dawn" This music resonates within me and makes me relive the story every time i hear the tune. Fontaine has music with 0 impact so far. It sounds nice and witty but there is huge rift between the quality of the mentioned pieces and fontaine music. Almost like listening to early works of Mozart and his latter works

I thought Yu-peng Chen did all the osts but actually my favorite ones were by other composers! They did really gud! (tbh i wouldnt be able to tell the diff) We will miss him but, the music will be cherished regardless who plays it! Ｏ(≧▽≦)Ｏ

When i read the title i got scared that genshin's music will lose in quality but you reassured me i was 100% wrong 🙏🙏

I haven't clicked a video this fast in a while. I'm sorry to hear that because he's been my image of Genshin's OST, but I'm selfishly relieved at the same time. Enkanomiya's is by far my most favourite ost in the game, and after learning it's not made by Yu Peng Chen I'm happy to see the quality won't decrease at all.
