Well Ren/Akira has two different names in the anime and the manga so it's difficult to refer to him by his name, personally I just call him Joker because at least people won't be arguing. I'm still disappointed Joker didn't have a proper personality in the anime while Yu had, self-insert blank characters are okay in video games but not in anime or mangas. I also think Joker had the potential to be an interesting, complex character so I wish they didn't just made him a self-insert for the player.

He totally left out the part on Yu complimenting Chie's legs from the anime. That was as close as her being the canon romance as we might get.

I'd say the Persona 4 game was more for the players experience and choices (Characters relay a little more on you for their development), whereas the Persona 4 anime was for the characters and story (Episode 4 is a pretty good example for what I mean. If you can't then, characters develop themselves, vs relaying on you to max them out their development)

In fairness, I think a lot of his chad actions and decisions are available to you in the game, and a good chunk of them do actually give you the best bonuses. We are basically watching a perfect playthrough of the game played out in full with the grindy bits removed, and the result is something special.

He´s still a weirdo in Arena. Let´s remember that scene in Arena where Elizabeth enters in the room. She destroys the ceiling and what was Yu´s reaction?: "What the h...? why does she enters by the ceiling instead of using the door??" instead of being worried about that someone has destroyed the ceiling like if it was made of cookie. The fact of making that comment twice only reinforce that our boy is weird. About the chad part... the anime is just a collection with the funniest/troll answers in game. We have option of kissing Teddie or even flirt with a police office.

Especially after playing P3/P5, Yu is the perfect protagonist for this type of game. Confident, compassionate, and upbeat, with a splash of cockiness and awkwardness. I love that the dialogue options you unlock with Guts usually make the people around you cringe, so it's like Yu is learning to be himself despite how people react. GOD P4 is so good...

it really helps that in the anime they made an effort to make narukami his own character. i like ren and makoto to an extent but their characterization begins and ends with their tragic backstories, and they dont show much of their character in their shows or mangas all that much. narukami has really good character moments in his spinoffs that really drive home that he's his own character first, and a self insert second at this point

Honestly, Yu is what I aspire to be if I wasn’t so flawed; I can’t keep a straight face for long, I get flustered whenever someone asks if I’m dating a friend who happens to be a girl, and I’m not as confident in my abilities in certain categories, but somehow I still maintain kindness for (some) others, and some of my friends look up to me. I dunno, I still like Narukami as a protagonist, probably because 4 was one of my favorites

One of the biggest differences is how in school everyone seems to just love Narukami even thsoe outside the social links.

You would think with all of Yu's descriptors, that he would be a virgin, but no, he just radiates C H A D E N E R G Y.

The anime adaptation was my first proper exposure to P4's story, and I absolutely fell in love with Yu on first watch. He's now my second favorite character, just behind Yosuke (who is simply best boy).

Don't forget that Igor ever said "The Velvet Room and the attendant are made to fit the guest's mind." I think how chad he is as a person is why he got the luxury limo. And well, don't question about Joker's attendant and his Velvet room.
