‖ ABOUT XIANGYUN TOWN
Xiangyun Town (翔雲鎮), colloquially known as Chew Woon (象運), was the 28th Tor/Du or district (廿八都) of Nan'an under the administrative division system of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is situated in the western tip of Nan'an City (南安市) with Yingdu Town (英都鎮) to the east and bordering with Longmen (龍門) and Fengcheng (鳳城) Towns of Anxi County (安溪縣) in the west and north and Tong'an District (同安區) of Xiamen (廈門市) in the south. In the olden days, it was where merchants from the three counties of Anxi, Nan'an and Tong'an gathered.
Xiangyun is one of the renowned overseas Chinese hometowns in southern Fujian. The three major surnames in Xiangyun are Neo (梁), Ong (王) and Toh (卓). Other surnames include Lim (林), Leow (廖), Tan (陳), Ng (黃), Ang (洪), Goh (吳), Lee (李), See (施), Chua (蔡), Ang (翁), Chioh (章), Lau (劉), etc.
