Yata lock kind of already exists in MtG. Stasis is the big one coming to mind, though I'm sure there are other examples that would be comparable. Possessed Portal is one that I didn't know about but does skip drawing.

I love how they made Yata itself, even got the spirit mechanic to function! Wonderful!

Here's my improved Seto Kaiba idea. He has an additional +0 ability that reads: You may sacrifice three Blue Eyes White Dragon tokens, if you do create a legendary 4500/3000 dragon token with flying and haste called blue eyes ultimate dragon.

For extra accurancy, I would leave it at 12/12. The og blue-eyes are 3000/2500 x 3 = 9000/7500... the ultimate is half that number with defense being rounded. By the same logic, the 8/8 x 3 = 24 halved equal 12. It may feel subpar but remember, less than 3 dragons means another 8/8 token.

The Yata Garasu commander could be fun in Sakashima and Ravos partner. Clone it with Sakashima, return it to hand with Ravos and then also rip your opponent's cards out of their hand with Sen Triplets. That way they can't draw any more cards and you can steal theirs. This would be OP in 1v1 and if you're in a 1v1 scenario in multiplayer you could destroy them. Run some tutors for Sen and Yata. And now I want to build this lol

Love that these weren't all just DM nostalgia picks, very creative! Smart too making Plains Walker Kiaba an Esper just like Chromium, the Dragon Blue-Eyes is based on. Ya know the ommunity is trying to make its own version of commander called Domain (though I'm not sold on it yet), Great Vid!

Yata Garasu + Grand Abolisher would be really obnoxious in Modern, as you could lock out the opponent's ability to draw (you dash the Yata Garasu each turn, while using Abolisher to prevent them from killing it). Put it in an esper control shell to remove anything they get out, and counter their removal, while blocking the opponent from ever getting another draw step.

I'd just like to add that Obelisk's attack is called God Hand Crush in the Japanese dub

Liked the spirit dash mechanic. Would have loved to see something like meld used to fepresent fusion

It actually got recently unbanned because it's currently useless. It was the longest-serving card on the ban list that even had a chance of coming off the list. It was banned for 20 years

I'm actually impressed that the people who created these cards put a lot of thought into translating game mechanics to the characteristics of these creatures. These people really respected the property enough to try to find a healthy balance to translate their native abilities to Magic the Gathering mechanics.

I'd love to see a crossover where Magic releases Yugi and Kaiba Commander Pre-Cons, and Yu-Gi-Oh releases Urza and Yawgmoth structure decks. Or better yet, do a Pokemon Commander Pre-Con because you could have Serena or Calem as the Commander and the 71 new Pokemon in Kalos plus 28 lands for the deck.

I've said before that if Konami where smart, the 25th anniversary set would have been $50 and would contain the anime versions of the Egyptian god cards. As well as new foiled artwork of some of the most iconic and busted cards in yugioh since a lot of them are banned and don't get printed anymore (Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, Delinquent Duo).

This was great. I guessed Dark magician girl was going to be on the list. I also expected dark magician, slypher and or Atem/Yugi. It would be really fun to see them in real play

That Kaiba is great. Now there needs to be a version that can fling said Blue Eyes because he's always throwing his physical blue eyes cards at people even though there's only 3. I definitely expected to see a couple more iconic cards make the list like Slifer or Black Luster Soldier, but just cool in general seeing yugioh translated to the Context of magic while keeping similar effects

I love these so much! As a Yugioh fan, I couldn't be happier that they kept the ideas behind the designs in mind. I'd love to see Final Fantasy characters be incorporated as well. Something about using Aerith or Cloud or Sephiroth to beat my opponent is absolutely a dream of mine.

Final fantasy is officially being made into commander cards so they are coming to magic, but it's next year :( but yeah FF is coming to magic officially its been confirmed. Look it up :)

I was very happy to see crystal beast rainbow dragon be so represented in this video.

I want these cards to be real especially the Obelisk and Seto Kaiba cards. As someone who dabbles in Magic the Gathering Commander and owns a Kaiba themed yugioh deck this would be a dream come true.

Pretty cool cencept id say 🔥 although Dragonmaid should trigger at the beginning of each combat and then transform.

Number 1 was the least flashy but well worthy of the number one spot for the best use of mechanics. The only issue would be that a it amounts to free spells with things like Aether Vial on Zero but is balanced by cards like Chalice on 0 countering it. I would be very interested to see a card like that Yata-Garasu.

One day we’ll get a bad reaction to simmochi/ tainted remedy archetype in magic. Was my first janky yugioh deck with the card thunder of ruler. When if flips you gain 3000lp but when it dies you lose 5000. So the entire deck was gifting him to an opponent with a card that turns life gain into loss and just one shouting them

@@Devestator2150 there’s a black one called tainted remedy. I tried building a janky deck with the card that puts bounty counters on creatures and makes everyone gain life and draw a card. But just not enough cards that make everyone gain life. And then red just has a bunch of cards where you can’t gain life

I had a custom card idea with Pegasus: 2UBR "Eminance-You may look at the top card of your library at any time. At the beginning of each end step, create a legendary artifact creature token named Reliquished with 'This creatures power and toughness are equal to that of the highest attack creature target opponent controls. That creature can't attack.' It's probably busted but I feel like there would be a lot of interesting ways to play it

I pay 2 colorless mana to cast the Magic Card Pot of Greed which allows me to draw 2 cards from my deck

Some pretty neat cards, loved Obelisk though if I could tweak him a bit i'd reduce his cmc and also add a clause where at every end step he checks if he was cast from the command zone, if not then he sacs himself. while having a high cmc means hes hard to initially cast he's a prime reanimation target that'll cheat his summoning requirement. plus iirc you could cheat out the gods with monster reborn but they'd only stick around for a turn(the 'every' end step is important cause of premature turn end cards). Also with the Kaiba walker I'd add that the Blue-eyes tokens are Legendary and have Kaiba have a passive "legend rule doesn't apply to you" or have the tokens themselves exempt from the legend rule, cause cmon it's THE Blue-eyes White Dragon: A LEGENDARY Dragon of destruction.

id say have a -8 or higher emblem thats says dragons ignore legendary rule if you control 3 or less dragon creature types, and legendary blue-eyes. make pot of greed a +1 and reduce the staring loyalty to 4 or 5

Yo. Obelisk designer here. The checking if he was cast from command zone clause would've been great! Shame I didn't think of that. Egyptian Gods have so many abilities in the show and game, so I just ignored the show and tried focusing on the game mechanics. Seemed I missed translating the one about sacrificing if he wasn't tribute summoned.

With the new standard banlist announcement, this feels quite feasible

Honestly if there was a crossover between Yugioh and MTG it would be so legendary. I would probably buy a blue eyes white dragon deck just for the kicks and giggles.

It would've been cool of the Eldlich cards unearth ability had it enter transformed and it showed off his fusion form with an effect similar.

Pot of Greed feels a little out of place on Seto Kaiba. His -3 should be Polymerization - If you control 3 copies of Blue-Eyes White Dragon, sacrifice them to play a Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon from hand, deck or graveyard. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon is a 12/12 with the following text: Flying, Vigilance, Trample, ward 3. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon must attack each turn if able. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon may attack up to 3 times per turn. Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon may block an additional two creatures each combat.

I want that obelisk sooooo bad in the right deck build he could be busted and cheap to cast. The cherry on top would have him have either protection from all colors or indestructible but there are other cards for that.

5 headed dragon, 25/25 pro colors. 10 mana 2 of each color. sacrifice 2 permanents at the beginning of the turn.

9:57 how would you 10:17 spend 7 mana? It is only 3 cmc. Unless you're running reliable CMC cost increasing cards... Errata: the mana cost needs an (X) in front of (G)(W)(U). Or it's only working with specific cards that may have to be specifically designed to make it work. And yes. That's not necessarily a negative issue for a Mtg version of a Yugioh card. I'm not sure number one would be commander legal. Even if you're able to Dash from the command zone, which I'm not sure is legal on its face... If it dies, you can now just play it for (2).

As someone who came to magic from yugioh I was very happy with this list 😂

Not related, but koma already reads like a yugioh card.

I only recognize half of the cards on this list (Seto Kaiba, Obelisk, Winged Kuriboh, Dark Magician Girl, and Yata-Garasu) and I guess that shows just how far this game has evolved. I've tried to get back into Yu-Gi-Oh! but I think the game has changed too much to the point where it barely resembles the game I grew up with. I think I'll just stick with Magic. Just a bit of critique of a couple of the cards featured in this video: Obelisk the Tormentor: OOF! This guy costs WAY too much mana. Twelve mana is way too much on top of also having to sacrifice three creatures. I think that if this costed 9, it would be a bit more playable. Speaking of the mana cost, since it's considered a "divine-beast" type in Yu-Gi-Oh!, I was hoping to see some white mana. The only other thing is an automatic +10/+10 and shroud for being the only other creature on the battlefield does seem a bit overpowered. Other than that, it's a faithful reconstruction of Obelisk. Seto Kaiba: Seto Kaiba is without a doubt my favourite Yu-Gi-Oh! character of all time. He's both a successful entrepreneur and very talented duelist. I think 8 mana is a bit too much as well. An 8/8 W/U Dragon creature token is impressive, but way too overpowered. Most dragon tokens are usually 4/4's, 5/5's, or in some cases 6/6. Otherwise, I think it's okay. EDIT: I was in a bit of rush earlier, so I overlooked this detail; instead of Kaiba, Seto Kaiba's planeswalker type should be "Seto" as almost every planeswalker in the game (with exceptions like Nicol Bolas) goes by their first name.

The point of Obelisk is to One Hit Kill your opponent through Commander Damage. It probably should have been +9/+9 to make it a 21/21 for exact Commander Damage instead of 22/22 for more flavor. I do agree that the 12 Mana Value is a bit high, and if the Creator was going for more Yugioh flavor, it would be 10 instead to fit the Monster's Stars in Yugioh. For Kaiba, the Blue-Eyes Token being made should have been a functional copy of Chromium for more flavor in regards to how similar Chromium and Blue-Eyes are. (As well as Chromium being Esper too.)

Only nitpick about Yata is a lack of flying. But these are overall really cool.

I find most of these lackluster in syntax. For example, isn't morph always at sorcery speed? Having flash on the card would not have any effect on the morph effect.

@@min0sse That... I am unsure of. But we do have a magic Judge in the CDH staff team, and he looked over the cards before they got sent out. I would assume the card works as intended because of that. But still, it's possible some stuff slipped through the cracks.
