For all those that are confused about Ys, let me educate you with some FAQ answers. -Yes there are previous games in the series, it's called Ys 8 for a reason. -The games are all loosely connected revolving around the same protagonist so you can play any game in the series and not feel lost. -The older games felt more like Zelda, current games feel more like Monster Hunter but more fast paced. -The series is very old, dating back to like NES. -Soundtrack for each game is fantastic. Rocking tunes for field and battle. -Ys VIII is regarded as one of the best in the series so give it a try. -Ys VIII was released in 2017 for PS4 and Vita so this is a port for Switch. -The game has dual audio.

This is the first time a proper Ys title has graced a Nintendo console since the SNES (We don't talk about that DS strategy game). I hope this does well. The Switch is fast becoming the default console for JRPGs and I couldn't be happier!

Yeti, I know right? Falcom has quite a woderful library of games. Zwei and the recent Legend of Heroes games come to mind. I hope this does well enough for them to consider bringing them to Switch.

The switch is getting so many amazing JRPGs and I love it. I already pre-ordered this on steam but I'm definitely doing another play-through for the switch release.

Glad a lot more people are learning about the Ys series now through this. It's a good series and deserves more love.

This was actually my favorite reveal in the recent direct. So happy I'll be able to play this on my Switch. Would love to play more Falcom games on the system in the future.

adol is the only adventurer in gaming history who is the hero foretold in every goddamn legend and prophesy. he saves the world on daily and the poor thing still doesn't have his own voice for his dialogue except a green text as mere narration.

Sigils, ETHEC. I suppose that you're right but I would say it depends entirely on how's it used. There are indeed titles with numbers in them but rarely is the number ever in the end of the title unless it suggests that it is part of a series . I find it hard to believe that somebody creating a new IP would call it "Something Something XVII" when it is in fact the first iteration of whatever they are making. I'm sure there are some that exist but if the creator is placing a number in the title, it would usually not be in the end as to not confuse consumers. I'm also strictly talking about video games, movies, and other forms of entertainment, by the way. Software tends to go a little nuts with the numbers EDIT: As some have said above, the Roman numerals do tend to dictate that the case in hand is, in fact, part of a series/saga whereas regular numbers can go either direction. This isn't absolute, however, but this is what usually tends to be when it comes to numbering things

Played it on the PS4 Absolutely loved it! I'm so glad it's coming for the switch!!! I hope this builds a bigger fan base for Falcom; they make some really awesome titles and music!!!

Well that sucks. DS collection is not a good place to start imo. Worse than the original versions, with its choppy framerate. You can try any Ys game despite the numbering sequels. Best games are Oath in Felghana and Seven, though it looks like they're not available on the systems you list. Since you don't have a gaming capable PC, that locks you out of most of Falcom's games, since Trails and Ys are mainly on Playstation systems & PC.

Bret Ginn Falcom games are fantastic and highly underrated! Their Trails games are one of my favorite series of all time and some of the best JRPGs I’ve played in a while! The Ys series is just as fantastic! This is a great game and I highly recommend it!

I already have Ys VIII on PS4, but it's great to see the Switch getting more third party JRPG titles.

For those wondering no you don't gotta play past Ys games to play this one, they'll just make references to past games. So if you enjoy action rpgs then pick this up Ys is a fantastic series that deserves more attention

YES! You know, I would not be surprised if we eventually got that! It would take time...first we would probably get some ports of older Ys games like Origin and Chronicles, than if they did well enough we could expect to get Trails in the Sky or Trails of Cold Steel ported! (I hope they do Sky first, though. Otherwise so many great moments would go over the players' heads.) Who knows? We could see Cold Steel III/IV getting a launch on Switch when they get localized. There are so many hopes from a remarkable announcement like this! :D

I'm also from the future and not only Trails of Cold Steel III is in the Switch now, but it will also get Trails of Cold Steel IV sometime in 2021.

Literally have never even heard of the Ys games before this Mini Direct but I gotta say I'm really captivated by what I'm seeing. Should I pick this up when it comes out on Switch? How's the gameplay? Do I need to play previous games to understand the story?

I don't have a Switch yet but I already played this game twice. I hope Nintendo peeps buy this game it's amazing. Falcom needs to know there is interest on other consoles and this is the chance to show them.

The wonderful music and hype around this game is as real as Shadows of Valentia, Fates: Birthright and Conquest, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 were in 2016 and 17.

yotam braunshtein I’ve played ys chronicles I and II then III. I didn’t have the time to play the rest though I saw through play throughs that there were similar in story anyway

We need to buy this game so we can let Falcom know we want their games on the Switch. I would love to see Legend of Heroes on the Switch.

The cutscenes involved in the game are anime-styled, and the entire trailer was just that of cutscenes in the game. I'm sure the original writer was making a joke in the first place, given just how much there is to show it's a game.

While not exactly apparent initially, this game is a true gem and well worth it's price tag.

Best action game I have played.

This game is sooo good, I'd seriously recommend it! If I hadn't already played it on ps4 I would definitely get it for the Switch

I never heard of this game or this series before the Direct happened, but I’m kind of sold on this game. It looks really appealing to me, and I can totally see myself playing this on my Switch. The only question is, can you play this game without having to play any other game in the series before this one? If so, I definitely will give this game a try, as I really am starting to be drawn into wanting this game. 😀

markasscop Arev Thanks. I do like how it has a Summer release, and that is usually a time when I have more of a chance to play games, like how last year I got to play ARMS and Splatoon 2 a lot then. So hopefully I can get this game when it comes out, because it does peak my interest, and that sometimes is hard for series that I haven’t heard about like this to do. 🙂

Unlike legend of heroes (another great falcom title) while this one references the other games here and there, they're all standalone (other than ys 1 and 2).

I like how they didn't show one bit of gameplay. It's still a fantastic JRPG and I'm happy to see that Switch owners will be able to check it out.

I have no idea what's happening but the music is awesome and I'm going to buy this game day 1!!!!

This is the game on the direct that got me excited the most, having played Ys Seven, Oath in Felghana and Chronicles - all great games which i recommend - i'm really glad the series it's back on a Nintendo console, and it's a shame Ys is underrated even though it's been as long as FF and Dragon Quest, because it has great gameplay and soundtracks that rival the best, if you like rpgs and fast paced games this game won't disappoint.

It's entirely in the realm of possibility. A single day after the reveal and the comments are FILLED with people just discovering Ys and Falcom who cannot wait to play it on Switch! Imagine how well it can do with some time after release? We can hope to first see more Ys ports, and if those also do well...no reason Falcom wouldn't test the waters with Trails. It's such an exciting time for Falcom fans!!! :D

I have legacy of ys books 1 and 2 for ds... I finally beat book 1 which could never do before in post the game in 6th grade... I got a job at 15 (age now) and bought it for $11 I am currently working on boom 2 and its bringing back so much nostalgia. Can't wait to play this on the switch.

RansomForRoses this is the 8 (techically ninth because of prequal) game in the series. The stories are independent of each other so there is no need to play the previouse games.

It's a very good action RPG with a kickass soundtrack and relatively likable characters. Graphics aren't amazing but the highspeed gameplay makes up for it imo.
