Great video to get a quick grasp on what the game is about! After playing Lacrimosa of Dana and one of the older ps 2 titles o cant wait to get further into the series with this game. I really respect Falcom for their approach to games both for Ys and for the trails series.

Same. Played YS and I loved it! And the Trails series are one of the greatest JRPGS of all time!! Also if you are interested in Falcom games, try out Tokyo Xanadu Ex+. Its kinda like a mix between the two games albeit with its own unique style.

@@kian26master I hear about xanadu a lot lately. What I've heard is, that the game has the setting of an persona game and the gameplay of ys (sounds like a dream combo). I certainly have to check that one out.

I played Xanadu years ago! I think the description is fairly accurate, but I’m thinking more like a mix of Ys with Trails!

In this order I like the style of video that you're using for this type of game especially since it's the 1st impressions. As for how I feel about this particular game the memories of watching that 1 guy play through the game a couple years ago are coming back in full force as well as the combat style of this one. Remind me so much of the 1st YS game I played Ys seven on my PSP, only it's a VITA game ported to the PS4. There's no denying that it does look dated especially when compared to the 8th Entry but the combat still has the same soul as that game except there's no jump button :(. What can I say ever since Kingdom Hearts I love my jump buttons in my JRPG's lol. I had a feeling that the start of the game would not tie you in because I felt the same way when I watched that lets play several years ago and since I have the 8th game as a reference I definitely enjoyed how that game tied me in a lot more. But the game is still fun as it is at the end of the day and it does carry what made it fun back when it came on on the vitta just on a big screen. Sweet 1st impressions And speaking of the Zelda comparisons even me and a friend were discussing the series both of them and spoiler alert my friend prefers Adol over Link, specifically because while Adol is a silent protagonist, he at least a set of emotions you know that he will do. Regardless, fantastic video!

I'm just finishing Ys 8, and I've enjoyed it so much that I had to get this one. I was thinking about getting origin, but this looks more like 8. Hope it's as awesome too!! I'm RE playing the entire island just because I don't want the game to be over.

I personally really like it! It’s the first game in the series to my knowledge that actually had the party based gameplay that the newer games have!

I like this type of video. It's a good way of getting your initial thoughts so far on any game you've been playing, whether they be overall positive or negative. And if you ever feel the need to do a full review of said game, it'll be interesting to see how or if your opinion of the game change once you've finished it, when comparing to your first impressions.

I like your review very much, I will have to wait until the next Friday (when I have money) so I can get my hands on this amazing game. I like that everything in this game it's so similar with Lacrimosa of Dana, which was the last one that I played and almost Platinum. I will play on PS4. I really hope that this series will continue on PS5!

Why almost platinum? :) I remember it to be a somewhat easy and super fun platinum if you use ng+ for the hardest difficulty

I like this style of video. Not every game needs a full review, sometimes an overview/impression like this is absolutely enough. ~ This is the only Ys game I’ve ever played and unfortunately it didn’t grab my attention. I didn’t really feel any connection to the characters and the combat and music, while good, were not amazing (two things which apparently Ys fans love about the series). I’m looking forward to the next game though, I think I will give Ys another chance.

I highly recommend YS I and II. You can find them together in the YS Chronicles pack. Fantastic games! And if you like them, give YS Origin a try as well. However if you prefer a more modern entry, then by all means go with viii. One of the best YS games!

I gotta wait when my copy arrives on thursday due to Amazon shipping it today but can't wait to continue my playthough of the Ys series

A little story: Back in 2015, I went to the game store one day looking for a new PSVita game to check out because I was bored of playing my other games and at the time, I couldnt get my hands on the physical copy of Persona 4 Golden. One of my good friends worked at the store and told him of my issue. I didnt want the games they had because most I didnt like, but then he pointed the case for Memories of Celceta. Holding the case in my hand and staring dumbfounded at the box art trying so hard to figure out what I had picked up. My friend insisted that I give it shot and assured me that YS: MoC is a great game. We went back and forth (literally as well, with me placing back the case and him removing the case from the shelf lol) and after about 35 minutes he finally convinced me to get this game. Still doubtful however, I went home to give it a try. I enjoyed YS so much that I went back to the store to tell my friend about it. I told him thanks for getting me to check it out. With a smile he responsed by saying, "No, thank you for playing it and welcome to the club my guy!"

This is going to be my next Ys game after Ys VIII.

@@BacklogBattle I´m waiting for Ys Ix to get ported to Switch and I heard that there are some throwbacks to older games in it which makes me want to hold off playing it until I get more Ys games under my belt.

I've picked up Celceta a couple of weeks ago for peanuts on the PSN (end of year sale has some great stuff!) I dunno why I slept on Nihon Falcon for so long, between the Trails/Kiseki series, Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ and now Ys: Memories of Celceta, I've come to be a massive fan of the company in general! I even ended up picking Ys Origins, VIII and IX while they were also on sale! As for Celceta, I'm currently in my second playthrough on Nightmare difficulty and the bosses are starting to kick my ass hard! 😅 but I will get that Platinum trophy!

I loved Ys VIII, and I haven't even heard of this port coming out until today. I'm not sure if it was intentionally a stealth drop or I somehow just missed the advertisements. Either way, I'm interested in this game, even with its flaws. Also, I like these impressions videos because it can bring attention to games that might have flown under the radar for some viewers while sharing your intial impression of the game.

Given how close to the release date I got the code, it certainly feels like a stealth release, doesn’t it?

While haven't had the chance to play this title in the Y's series yet, I have played Y's seven on Steam which is what celceta was made from. I loved playing seven even after Y's 8 got me into the franchise cuz it was still the fast paced, fun exploring, hack and slash game without the later improvements to gameplay. I can't wait to pick this game up and have hours of fun like I did with those other two titles :3

I played 100% of this game when it came out on the Vita and I loved it. I don't own that console anymore, but I still have this game in my collection, along with the collectors edition! I even got the platinum trophy. I can say it's a little slow at the beginning but once you get deeper in the forest the story deepens with it. If you're going for the platinum just a little tip, explore every pixel of the map! And I mean literally!! ;)

I think I got Ys Origin during a sale and haven't played it yet! Will be interesting to see if I can find time to go back and play it!

I’ve been considering getting into Ys for a while now, since the art style of Lacrimosa of Dana was so eye-catching. Seeing gameplay of both this entry and VIII looked promising to me, as I love hack and slash RPGs, but the way you detailed it’s crisp, fast-paced combat system has me sold. Thank you for reviewing this game! On the note of Lacrimosa of Dana, do you think it’s worth it to pick that up for the Switch, or should I stick to the PS4 release?

Thanks for commenting! I actually reviewed Ys VIII on the Switch and while it had some weird performance quirks like minor frame drops and the like, I still enjoyed my experience of it! So I’d still recommend it on the Switch, especially for portability! If you’re curious as to what VIII looks like on Switch, I highly recommend checking my review of the game! It was one of my first reviews!

I've been interested in getting this for my Vita for awhile now, though the higher frame rate does make it appealing to get for PS4!

Yes!

I started to play this on PC directly after having played Y's VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana and I quickly had to put it back down. Why? Because the controls (at least on PC) were so clumsy compared to VIII that it was hard to adjust. If I hadn't played VIII first it probably wouldn't have been so bad. In fact my plan is to return when I've mostly forgotten VIII. Maybe it's better on PS4, but I can't say.

Were you playing it via controller or kbm? The controller mapping seems to be similar to 8.

@@BacklogBattle I played with a Microsoft controller. On PC Memories of Celesta seemed very... sporadic and less precise. It felt like digital controls mapped to an analog stick if that makes sense. Like someone had mapped the thumb stick to up, left, right, and down. VIII hadn't been that way at all.

Well it can be kind of hard tbh. I think YS 8 is the first to have a free camera system, so you may have to take some time adjusting if you want to get into the older games. Its still worth the effort so just take time and I hope you enjoy them.

What do I think about Memories of Celceta? I think I need more money.
