YOUTUBE "NOT PAYING CREATORS" - YouTube Monetization 2021 Terms of Service Update

KZread has updated its terms of service around KZread Monetization and the Right to Monetize as of June 1, 2021. KZread may run ads on some content while not paying KZreadrs for those ads. We need to talk about these new KZread Terms of Service for the YPP.
YPP stands for KZread Partner Program and being a Creator paid through KZread Monetization.
This was something I covered in a previous video last year, but some new information about the KZread Partner Program and how this affects KZread Monetization has come to light.
I also wanted to address the feelings Small KZreadrs have around this new Terms of Service Update and whether or not it is "Exploiting" Creators and whether it justifies leaving KZread.

    Thanks for the heads up Roberto, I just started an animation youtube and can I ask if someone uploaded content that got a copyright strike for the music but then the creator deleted the video, are they still screwed when it comes to future monetizing (so in essence does a copyright warning stay on a youtubers record no matter what?)

    KZread suppresses content creators who they deem inappropriate, meanwhile they promote content creators who do black face, the platform promotes bullies in the breath guru industry, the algorithm promotes drama content, family bloggers who abuse children, and content creators who video suiiciiide parks. This is already happening. I know about it because YT sent me an updated terms of usage email. I'm just a viewer not a creator so it didn't impact me in the same way but I thought it was odd that suddenly YT is doing this. So *creators* don't know this? To add insult to injury most of the ads contradict the user content - like a healthy fitness video with adds for plastic surgery and junk food 🙄

    @@RobertoBlake I really don't think that's true, I mean Odysee is growing faster in its first few months than YT did in its first few years. The others, like Daily Motion, I think no one really watches for legal content, but there's no reason not to back up your content to Odysee when you can do it automatically (Odysee syncs to your YT channel and monetizes in crypto). And if the anti-trust case against Google succeeds, YT gets broken up away from Google and THAT makes a huge difference, too. I think there's no reason not to SUPPORT alternative options, especially automatic ones that take no extra effort, while they grow, and just kind of see what happens.

  • @realrogue

    @realrogue

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Shauma_llama It's not for lack of profit, it's because of power. There's a large court case against Google right now for actively squashing their competitors in possibly illegal ways (it's the anti-trust case). YT can weaken their competition because US favors large corporations and penalizes small businesses right now, both with this and the previous administration. It's not okay the way the govt picks winners and losers, and hopefully the start up discrimination changes, but I'm not crossing my fingers. Seriously, DailyMotion, Vimeo, Odysee, everyone has tried to get a piece of this pie but you've never heard of them because Google doesn't want you to. I think of those, the only actual viable side option is Odysee, because you can sync your content automatically. EVEN THE BIDEN WHITE HOUSE IS AN EARLY ODYSEE ADOPTER. The problem with Odysee is that the US govt is also trying to get a piece of the crypto pie by cracking down on new crypto options with stricter regulation. It sucks--it's all greedy Senators making six figs who feel like they should make more. Still, right NOW, no reason not to back up your content automatically to Odysee even as just a storage method. If a new competitor does get the technology and strength to really compete fairly, a lot of people are annoyed enough with YT that they might move, but it's more likely that they will ADD the other platform than STOP using YT. YT is just so culturally ingrained. So as Roberto says, YT is still going to be viable for building your audience in the longterm future. I'm also going to try to monetize on DailyMotion because there are other countries where that is more profitable, and then RIGHT NOW I also make more money from the average low effort Twitch stream than the average high effort YT video. In my case, this is partly because my most dedicated followers followed me away from YT live to Twitch. I have a small audience but some very high value viewers worth at least $20 a month on their own. And I grow faster on Twitch too. So RN I use YT to grow my audience and engage with them so I can then monetize them somewhere else. I still get double the avg RPM on YT while getting the occasional affiliate marketing bonus from YT in my niche. But for me, YT is for collecting fans to make money elsewhere longterm--not for getting rich quick now. So that kind of goes back to what Roberto says about building your COMMUNITY. Having an email list for both affiliate marketing and new VALUE to your subs. Having people who WILL watch you on competing platforms, who love YOU so much they will follow you anywhere. And diversifying income streams. There's no reason not to post EVERYWHERE because nothing lasts forever. I would back up on Odysee automatically, see if your content is right for something like DailyMotion or Vimeo, or IGTV if you qualify, have a livestream on Twitch once a week, and hard-core focus on building a YT audience that loves you enough to follow you anywhere and directly give you money on other things you make. To do that, you have to be giving them insane value and love and really taking care of them. And that kind of makes it worth it, because helping people is rad. So yeah, go back up on Odysee, and be kind to your audience.

    YT is going to annoy viewers into paying for a YT subscription so that we view content without ads. Those viewing for free will complain about being annoyed and it will ruin creator's channels. Viewrs blame the channels, not YT.

    @@LostPhoenixGaming And this is the kind of behavior that is killing basic cable and old media. Coercing or overpowering viewers and readers, instead of focusing on providing them innovative value, leaves a bad taste in their mouth as consumers. They resent it. And eventually, when alternatives appear, they take it. It takes a LONG time for the power balance to shift though. In the meantime, I would just educate your viewers early in the vid, description, and first comment that this is YT doing it, not you. Direct their anger elsewhere. Heck, I have even had viewers go to the feedback button to explain very specifically why they are unhappy with new ad policies/not getting notifications/comments disappearing/etc. It's just a little pressure but if we all get our small audiences to do it, that begins to snowball and send a warning message. Staying engaged with your community and talking to them a lot also protects you from their wrath.

    Regarding your comment about creators looking out for the best interests of their viewers by controlling the type of ads they see - I feel you are 100% correct. The more cohesive an ad is with the intended viewer, the more likely it is that the ad convert. I think as creators we can help that situation by sticking within our niche and creating content that advertisers can trust. (And hopefully that helps KZread choose the type of ads they show our viewers.) Great video. Thanks for sharing.

    I feel like KZread in a way hurt their own creators because theses rules that they apply wasn’t made for everybody. Its like KZread in a way cherry pick who they see fit instead of the people. Im starting to see more KZreadrs shift to streaming more. It feels like it isn’t about the relationship between the creators and their audience, but advisers. It’s like the creators voice their own concern, but nothing but air. Glad for the video man!

    I agree with you Roberto. If KZread has the right to run ads on videos of channels that are not in the Partner Program, I believe those creators should at least have control as to what type of ads and how many of these ads show up on their videos. It is KZread's platform so we have to accept their terms and conditions.

    Roberto - Super helpful and thoughtful video. I've had ads showing up on my videos for awhile now and have a few viewers "congratulating" me, assuming I was monetized. I definitely am irritated that I can't control the ads. It does help lesson the sting knowing that I'm not missing any real money as a super small channel, but I have to say that all those "fractions of pennies" across the platform do add up and collectively that starts to feel a bit like exploitation to me. Makes sense business wise. Even though I'm not super thrilled about it... definitely not discouraged, only more motivated to get monetized one day soon. Thanks for the thought and effort you put into this.

If you have 5,000 watch hours and 998 subscribers and it has passed the one year mark, you also won’t be able to qualify because you have 2 subscribers left to qualify even though you have surpassed the 4,000 watch hours end of the deal. I agree with what your saying. If YT want to play ads at the start or end of a video then that should be their choice. However if they are going to place ads mid role then the creator should be able to determine the time of the ad or even better be able to opt out unless they get credited with some measure to reduce their requirement for monetisation. That would be fair.

Other videos I saw left me with more questions than answers, but yours left me feeling relieved somewhat! I still worry about lack of control over ad content and placement interrupting my videos as a small channel and the effect on viewer experience, but it sounds like being so small could mean KZread won't even bother? Thanks for the vid. I kind of last my job due to COVID, and I started working on game consoles for a local shop. That shop talked me into making videos. TO me... I'm just hoping to make enough between KZread, Amazon, and the actual repairs to make a living. My videos were starting to grow, and youtube decided to put adds on them about 5 weeks ago. When that happened, there was a SHARP DROP in my views. It was very disheartening. I just felt like it was a penalty since KZread is making $, but I am not getting anything from it. I feel like they should compensate in some way... like give me a few more impressions. I understand it's their company, and they can do what they want, and we wouldn't be here without them... but then again... they wouldn't be here without us.

  • @realrogue

    @realrogue

    3 жыл бұрын

    "They wouldn't be here without us" is a great point. Honestly, if enough huge powerful channels were to boycott YT, they would change their tune real quick. The problem is that the big channels will never strike or do anything like that because YT coddles them (look at what the Logan Brothers can get away with that you or I never could). I have seen that when Markiplier or Pewdiepie complain about something, things get fixed for them real quick, but it's always only tiny conciliatory stuff and not real change. So the solution is to keep grinding, become big and powerful on YT, and then band together with other big and powerful creators to LEAVE or force YT to make change. You have to have an insanely dedicated audience to have that kind of pull. So I'm focusing on providing so much value to my audience, and taking care of them with such a personal touch, that they hang out with me no matter where I am, and while I will probably never be big enough to pull that power switcheroo on YT (I don't want to be that famous, I just want to monetize a passionate small community that makes a difference), maybe you will one day. And when you're huge, remember where you came from and kick YT in the balls for us all!!! PS: Good on you for not letting COVID kill your dreams--for adapting, finding work, then trying to adapt the expertise of that work to an independent YT side gig. Your adaptable spirit rocks.
