Sometimes I'll be rewatching an older video of yours, PDM as well, because I think "Well, I can always watch one of my favorites if he doesn't have a new video out." I'll watch a few, then I'll get a video suggestion for a newer video of yours that I have never seen. I hope YT figures it out and does right by you guys. You've really helped get me through some really tough years of depression, and I know I'm not the only one. I am a psychotherapist, and end up with a lot of RPG playing clients, and I always end up prescribing the videos you guys make to those clients. You all have helped me, and so many clients over the years, and you definitely deserve what you're entitled to from YT.

The algorithm keeps suggesting bizarre things to me. You'd think given I watch a lot of content about gaming, gaming news and so on that my main page would be gaming related content. Instead I get videos about cops, a couple different react channels and stuff about real estate. Next to none of it is related to any of the channels I follow or regularly search for. It kept suggesting country music to me and I listen to hard rock and metal. I don't think KZread cares anymore. They want their clicks for the ad revenue and that's it, screw our experience as viewers.

A lot of creators have been creating shorts from older clips. Could be a way of advertising them. The other thing I've seen is merging a group of them into a mega video. Good for when driving or going to sleep. I watch lots of videos while i sleep. 😊

They keep raising the bar for content providers. This is quality information, and it should be available to those who want it.

It's frustrating that there is no accountability with KZread either. I had two friends with decent sized followers that were both suspended for 3 months of monetization for nebulous reasons. They both appealed but were never able to speak to a person or get answers and both had to serve out their time. I feel eventually smarter people than myself will realize that a class action suit is needed to compensate the content generators more fairly.

I think the "Rewind" idea is great. It breaths new life into old videos. And to be honest, I have been turned away from videos about systems and topics that are old thinking that they are outdated. Having a rewind version could secure a click from people like me

I’ve never understood the need for the “bell icon” thing. I always interact with KZread with the Subscriptions link. When I’ve finished with that I go to Home and see what the system has for me. It’s usually pretty good. I don’t miss videos from the channels to which I’ve subscribed.

Same, I've never clicked the bell icon on any of the channels I subscribe to because I don't want get spammed with notifications. I just go to my Home screen and browse what has been uploaded when I want to watch something. Never been a problem for me missing videos from my favorite channels - I might watch them maybe a day or week later after the upload, but they're still all available to me.

Yep. I've seen every single video my subscribed channels posts. I think people just surf the main feed and then get pissed when it's not a list of their subscriptions. Which it shouldn't be, because that feature already specifically exists lol. Edit: I get all of them in my sub feed without clicking the bell on a single one, for the record.

I try to watch all Dungeon Craft videos on release day, but I also go back and watch your older videos multiple times. I particularly like your campaign and adventure breakdowns. There's so many great tips and tricks! Everyone should watch more Dungeon Craft

Yep, never had any issue getting his videos. I regularly see them in my feed "posted 13 minutes ago" or whatever. Also never been unsubscribed from any channel ever. I know because I know my subscription count.

One of the channels I've subscribed to puts compilations of their short play troughs together and its a good way to re-binge older videos, I think its a great idea.

I just LOVE the section-by-section breakdowns you have. I know they're not the most popular, but man they are good.

I don't rely on the nominal feed, I go straight to the Notifications bell in the upper right corner on the desktop. Suggested content is an afterthought.

Most of what I see suggested for me on KZread is several years old; I see your older content but almost never get the heads-up about your new content...this is the first new video I've seen in awhile.

Dated a girl once that was terrified by that song. Seriously, she once yelped and jump out of her car when the song started playing after she started it.

There has only ever always been one way to be guaranteed to get new videos from subscribed channels, and that's the subscriptions page. Any other methods will necessarily fail, even with all the intermediate steps. Sometimes there are technical limitations, sometimes there are unacceptable UX implications. When it comes to view counting being messed up, it's purely technical. What you saw was speed over accuracy, which later turned into accuracy over speed. This is something youtube has done forever, and it's one of the ways they deal with bots and remain enticing to advertisers.

Even on the subscription tab, I've noticed that channels with more frequent posts (regardless of subs/view-count) are displayed more consistently. I'm subbed to some small channels that post infrequently, and sometimes my only ping is the little colored-dot next to the channel name in the Subs list. I think the current algo is promoting livestreams, too. Seems like all kinds of channels are doing their first lives now for some reason.

​@@mandisaw streams are always shown as "new videos" since they're being shown live, and your sub feed is sorted by newest, so any live streams will be at the top. It's true, one content creator putting out a million crap posts and discussion posts can clutter up your subscriptions feed and make it hard to find the videos you want, but that's not KZreads fault. I've never once seen a video missing from my subscription feed, even if it got buried and I had to look for it. Ive unsubbed from anyone who constantly garbage posts like that. They're not worth my time.

Have also noticed YT recommending the same vids to me 2, even 3, times within a 24-36hr period, even from channels I have never watched, with content I have no direct interest in. Something is definitely going on with their algorithm [again].

I have subscribed set and set to all, I get all the notifications, I don't notice anything missing. Folks also have to look in their subscription feed, not the home feed.

I do get notifications, but I have noticed my feed is flooded with things I only ever checked out once. I was curious about X, and now my feed is full of X. To the detriment of my subscriptions, with notifications. I think I'm going to go into your playlist, and keep them playing while I work. I am super stoked about the Caves of Carnage Supercut! Hook a brother up! Can we expect a "Deathbringer Karaoke Night" occasionally?

I don't turn notifications on but I see your videos in my feed all the time and I get your old videos suggested often too. I scrolled down your video list and I've watched them all without ever searching your channel

I love your content, I have to actively search for your new stuff. It is rarely recommended in my feed.

KZread is such a mess. Not only don't they show my stuff to me even though I have notifications ON, but on my (very tiny) channel, I have a couple of long-term subscribers who make comments on every video, and half their comments just vanish at random every so often. Even comments I have personally liked and replied to... I go back and look, and their comments are invisible as are my replies. Meanwhile, they'll show me all kinds of videos that have nothing to do with anything I've ever watched, almost certainly because those people have paid them. YT is slowly making itself a less and less useful platform.

I love watching supercuts and re-releases on channels I follow. Especially if it's been a while since the original was released, I'll get reminded of the things I remember, and gain perspective on the things I forgot or missed. Most of what I watch on KZread is educational (including TTRPG education), and there's always more to learn, even if it's ground that's already been covered. The Caves of Carnage series is how I discovered this channel, and it's still some of my favourite work on all of D&DTube. Can't wait for the supercut, and I'm excited for all the Dungeon Craft Remastered series.

Revisiting/refreshing your curated content sounds like a good idea. I’d also make sure to consistently have your closing card pitching multiple videos. I’ve seen some channels that create a sort of closed loop that way.

I think it’s a great idea to revisit old content! However, I know that I ask questions regarding content you’ve already posted, not because I haven’t seen it, but because I’m looking for clarification.

Genuinely looking forward to the "remix" videos. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff from the early days of the channel I never saw, and even the ones I did, it'll be interesting to see if/how your views have changed. I can't understand why KZread deliberately makes it so hard for creators to connect with their audience. But no doubt there's some complicated equation somewhere that demonstrates that screwing their users over will somehow make them more money.

Are you surprised that KZread is a horrible awful company that doesn't care about any of the channels, other than the channels that have millions of subscribers who make them lots of money? A world that functions on greed and selfishness cannot end well, which is why the state of the world just keeps getting worse. I've enjoyed a lot of your videos though. Just stay true to yourself, and don't worry about things that you can't control. You're doing very well for a channel that's all about D&D. Lots of D&D channels don't do anywhere near as good as you're doing. The Dungeon Minister has a great channel, but he only has around 2k subscribers, and I have less than 400. Course, my channel sucks compared to yours. Maybe I should try using a video editor, and not just my phone to make a video 😏

@Lightmane sure, but you've missed my point, which is: in genre he has a very respectable following. YT needs to cultivate genres instead of just videos. YT has communities by default that tend to watch related content, which is still something that the algorithm pushes, I mean watch one video about some hot button current event and YT thinks you want to see all that sort of thing. If it does that for those sorts, it should still do that for our hobby videos.

I mean no disrespect with my comment, I enjoy your content quite a bit, but I i find this video unnecessary. I don't work with or for Google, but I'm a cybersecurity engineer by trade and I have enough education to understand how KZread works. There is no evil conspiracy out to get you or other D&D or TTRPG channels. I frequently don't get notifications from huge channels, yes, including the Mr. Beast ones. Why? Because KZread is not perfect. Code is not optimized, things don't always work as they should. Not to mention that your channel deals with niche topics. Alas, as much as I love TTRPGs, they represent a topic that only a minority would look for. All in all, this video comes out more as begging for more views and more money. At a time were lies and false information seems so crucial, a video like this really seems a waste of time. TL;DR = KZread isn't doing anything on purpose against you.

@@danielrowan4716 As an IT professional, I simply do not appreciate conspiratorial tones, which the author of the video engages in. There are a lot of entry-level employees in companies like Google that work their arses off and don't get paid six-figure salaries. I know KZread employs a score of such low-level workers. It's definitely incompetence, even laziness (when was the last time KZread introduced significant new features?), but it should be stated clearly instead of spreading a false narrative. KZread is not out to get TTRPG channels and suppress their content. This channel, for the most part, deals in reaction videos about this or that evil thing WoTC/Hasbro has done lately. More nuanced and diversified content would greatly improve the algorithm RNG (if you want to put it that way). To expect that KZread spits out videos uploaded years ago, simply because they're there, on the channel, is not how the behind-the-scene coding of the platform works, and I find appalling to just upload a video like this and cry about not getting enough views. The author of this channel can do a LOT MORE to improve their chances at being picked up by the algorithm.

I really appreciate this kind of response and coverage of the topic. I’m also a “Never attribute to malice that which can be to (in this case) incompetence”. It just sucks when your content that you’ve poured yourself into gets bonked. Thank you for the concise answer and keeping a respectful tone. We’re all in here because we love this game and Professor Dungeon Master.

No you’re killing your channel by always talking about Matt Mercer and critical roll bullshit. The first video no in a few months that seemed interesting, last week’s AI one was not what I thought so I disliked it.

If I drew a pie graph, Matt Mercer and CR would be 2%. That proves my point. They show CR content but not "The Lost City."
