Youtube is Dying, and THEY are Killing It

Ойындар

KZread has killed the dislike button. Now users can no longer see dislike counts on videos, and creators have to dig through analytics to find them. A sad day for this site.

Instead of creating better products, corporations have decided to prevent people from expressing their dissatisfaction with them. It's definitely a sign of things to come from a qualitative standpoint.

Pretty much anyone with less than 10k subscribers is what they want to eliminate from the platform pretty much, this has pretty much started like half a decade ago at this point. Removing verified checkmarks to celebrities with 200 subscribers, and removing them from people with less than 100k subscribers. Quite sad that there will be no new content creators outside the massive multi million subscriber KZread channels that appeal to KZread the most.

@@mrshmuga9 That's not to say the old days of KZread were all roses, but I definitely recall people having a "thicker skin", for lack of a better term. More people were willing to call out the bullshit and be honest. The only downside back then was the lack of resources and technology, since videos back in 2007 - 2008 were restricted to 240p resolution. Nowadays, every other KZreadr is posting their videos in 4K resolution. I don't have a problem with that, but they are catering entirely to the KZread algorithm. It's all a business instead of a passion like it was in the old days. People who try to criticize and call out on certain things end up getting blacklisted. I've seen this first hand with many good KZreadrs. They end up leaving the platform. It's truly heartbreaking to see where KZread has gone over the last decade. I've had this account since March of 2007, so I have seen all the changes this website has gone thru over the years. People who disagree with you now view you as an extremist, while they themselves are extremist in the way that they shove their opinions down on everyone else. Everything now is all or nothing, you can't be in the middle anymore.

People think it's just nostalgia talking, but it's true that times were different. I was born in 1990. When I was in middle school I made video projects with my friends at school and eventually put them on KZread. Receiving honest feedback is so important and sometimes only strangers are willing to do that. People say that the slippery slope is a fallacy, but I've watched censorship get more and more shameless and blatant to the point that they're actually proud of it. Freedom of speech wasn't a meme. Private companies even respected it. The backlash they would've faced 10 years ago if they had made all these changes at once would've been incredible. First they censored extreme videos like Nazi propaganda (actual Nazi propaganda), then alt right and conspiracy videos but back then we thought everyone deserves a voice as long as they didn't make direct threats or directly call for violence, this is how you filter out bad ideas... then they added the banners that step in and "correct" videos, then they started mass censoring even more videos, not even alt right, then they altered search results so instead of the most relevant videos on a politically charged topic you got results from corporate media outlets first, and they altered search suggestions and recommended videos to "prevent extremism", there were mass coordinated purges of entire networks of channels all at once. This happened multiple times, then they built a comment censor algorithm so you don't even know what you can or cannot say. Now they removed one of the last ways that we can show discontent and see what others are thinking about a topic. I don't know if there is a more insidious evil than censorship veiled behind kindness. Truth is vastly more important.

Any comment I make about not supporting rainbow stuff gets deleted too. That’s definitely a lie. :/ I constantly have to word my comments in weird ways to even get them to appear. The auto shadow-ban and comment deletion algorithms are awful already, this is going to make that problem even worse.

It's so tragic to see how back in 2006 - 2007 you had a lot of guys who were basically just making videos, being real and being passionate. Now... the entire KZread culture is a corporate culture where guys with tens of millions of subscribers are favored over the guy with 50 thousand subs, in this case this channel that uploaded this video. If KZread Rewind 2018 wasn't a telling sign to people, nothing is.

Just adding my two cents about using the comment section. As a "power user" of youtube, I basically use this platform like stackoverflow and pluralsight, meaning mostly educational videos and tutorials. The like / dislike ratio is a critical feature to me because my most valuable asset is TIME, so I need to quickly decide if a video is worth my time or not. If I can't see dislikes, the only other option is the comment section. Now, that is a problem, because the algorithm will list top comments BASED ON YOUR PREFERENCE, and also, content creators can delete or keep any comments in review indefinitely anyway. Which bring me to my point: KZread is now television. Everything is controlled by corporations and the government, there is no feedback, no backlash for any companies trying to sell shitty products or disinformation. If you can read my comment, consider yourself luky. The algorithm decided that you and I are like-minded. Others probably won't ever this.. If you think I'm crazy, check one of your favorite videos' top comments. Now check it on your girlfriend's phone.

Based on when you made your KZread account (January 2007), I say you've pretty much seen everything at this point. KZread is what cable television was back in the late 2000s, early 2010s. Many of us fled to KZread after cable went down the tubes. Very sad that it has now become this. This platform back in 2007 - 2008 was good for a reason. Nowadays those old videos where people had a bit more freedom to express themselves would probably get removed or censored to oblivion if they were to make that kind of content today.
