Something similar happened to me, years ago. A white salesman at a dealership told me to come back when I get enough money. I walked out, reentered, and approached the only black person who worked there. He started to prepare the paper work. The white salesman approached us and said that I was his customer. I simply said, "no way ".

When I was in my late teen years back in the late 1960s, when I wanted to buy a new car the sales men at the dealer did not want to serve me. They told me I was wasting their time. I was with long hair, not well shaven, wearing warn out Jeans, and a warn out shirt. I left the dealer showroom, and returned the next day. I was told again to not waste their time. I saw a guy working in the place who I went to high school with. He was a new salesman at the place. When he started to talk to me the others told him to not waste their time with me. We talked anyway. In the end I bought the car from my high school friend. I dropped a check for the deposit and make arrangements to come back with a full payment. I was his first sale in the place and he made his commission.

This has nothing to do with salesmanship. The usual entitled stupidity of some people in this life.

A friend of mine was not treated in a hateful way they just thought she couldn't afford the car because she was dressed in old jeans and a tee when she found the car she wanted she bought they were quick to check her credit and more eager to finance it but she simply wrote a check for $28000 dollars and after they checked the bank it was a different situation so black people do work hard and save never go by our looks 😊😊😊😊

NEVER judge a book by its cover. I've known a few millionaires who purposely dress down and sometimes drive used, ordinary vehicles.

Similar story: In a small town, a farmer came into the dealership in his worn, but clean overalls. All but one of the salesmen ignored him. When the new salesman approached the farmer and asked him what he was interested in, the farmer replied he wanted to purchase the high-end Cadillac for his wife. After some small talk, the salesman asked how the farmer wanted to pay for the car. Cash, he replied and pulled a sizable wad from a pocket of his overalls. Later, the dealership’s owner lectured the other salesmen on their attitude!

In the late sixties I was at an auto dealer to buy a part and walk in a white hair man needing an odd light bulb. Quote this bulb is a n word to find. I soon found out he was the sales manager but I said nothing. I made a promise that the day would come that I would buy a new Chevrolet but not from that dealer. The day came and I drove my new car into the lot and found the owner and the sales manager and I said see what a real n word can buy if treated right.

Never judge a book by its cover. How condensing for white salesman look down on a black man who wanted to buy an expensive car. Why do a bunch of salesman look down on a black man with such prejudice. How sad. Am glad he did not buy his dream car from dt dealership. Am glad the manager of dt dealership taught the bunch of salesman on how to treat all with respect.
