Consider this format: Give a pen and paper to each team. Ask the same questions to everyone. After each question, give 30 seconds for each team and then ask them to put the pen down. Then have a volunteer (one per team) check the answer of each team. This is fair to all teams but still keeps the excitement of having live scoring. Also, each team gets to answer 50+ questions in less time than the format used here.

I think you guys should do something like this in the summer with registration so anyone can participate

Maybe incorporate a buzzer system so it reflects equality in answering questions and true knowledge base
