When I was a kid in the early 60s I was passionate about radio but it was a lonely passion as the other kids wanted to play football when all I wanted to do was build radios. It was only through the encouragement of a couple of local engineers that made me realise that I wasn't alone and it turned that passion into a lifelong journey and career. Now I'm retired I'm still working with electronics as the passion never died. It's so important to encourage young people to get involved with science - most of the time they need to be persuaded that it's cool and not geeky, although there's nothing wrong with being geeky! I'm eternally grateful to those old guys that took the time to encourage me and I've since done the same with a few youngsters and watched them create their own passion for electronics. Spread that encouragement if you can.

I consider you, along with some other prominent online figures from 2007-2012, as mentors. definitely helped foster my self motivated learning in electronics. I was fortunate enough to find some people in my community that helped me learn how to machine, learn more about electronics, and learn general fabrication skills. I also briefly met you at maker faire in 2010 I believe, it was brief, but helped me realize I could use those skills and eventually turn them into a career. I'm now a research and development engineer for a biotechnology company and I owe a deal of that to you, Alan Yates, and Dave Jones! I hope you keep the online presence going!

You are so inspiring! I never had any mentors unfortunately. Got into c64 stuff at the wrong time when the world was enamoured with multimedia PCs. Picked up a varied assortment of skills along the way, like programming, machining, forging, soldering etc, but I've mostly been at it by myself. Being a bit of an oddball and quite content in my own company also contributed. It's really hard finding people who share ones intrests, at least irl.

i was 8 years old when i ask my daddy to build a germanium diode radio. since then electronics was my passion. A clerk of a grocery store introduce me to a Very old man (I was 12. he was 80 something, today i see 80's with other eyes) and. he had a fabulous Collins transmitter and receiver. the room was plenty of equipment, transistors over the bench... So he started to teach me electronics for real. Then i follow another path on my life for 14 years...and then rediscover the electronics with another old guy. We worked at a FM Transmitter factory. I wish i can pass my knowledge and passion to other people. I am very grateful to Adolfo and Armando and their families. thank you for this video Jeri,

Hi Jeri, Great to see you back.. In my eyes you are the embodiment of the American dream. People like you prove that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything. I know because I have done it as well. I was a high school dropout. After 4 years in the service I came home and couldn't get a job, I am a Vietnam vet NO One would hire me. Finally I landed a job as an oil field meter mechanic. Heavy Hard work. But I watched and learned, discovered that there was an awful lot of Electronic instruments used with these meters and i wanted to know more. I started reading, and learning. Then I started experimenting. I drudged through it and enjoyed it. Started my own business, for the past 40 years I have been designing and building those instruments. Some of these instruments are mechanically connected to the apparatus they are monitoring, so I bought a lathe and end mill and learned to do the machine work required as well. It's been a great ride for me, as I know it has been for you as well. BTW I am a HAM too, so 73 for now.

Jeri, I liked hearing how you found mentors for your various paths in life. Not long ago, I had a very wonderful and bright young lady (23yo) work with me for a year. Then she found another, better job, (and good for her), but when she found out she passed her test and interview for it, she told me (in caps, lol) that I had been "the best mentor ever!!". Not gonna lie, I teared up a little.

Thank you for this video. It is very inspiring and it shows that hamradio is more than just a hobby. I remember, when I went to an interview in a company and at the end the guy asked me about my hobbies. When I said I'm a ham radio operator, he said "Why didn't you tell me that at the start, the interview would have been a lot shorter then." So I got that job and I stayed nearly 40 years in that company.

I recently saw your oscillator video where you mentioned their distortion could be improved using lightbulbs, thermistors, while I was searching for videos on a coupled Clapp oscillators. Now, it's great to hear how you had mentors to guide you. And hear about your awesome journey. Mentors are helping me learn some models for fatherhood that I can incorporate for my daughter who is 2.5. These mentors still have positive relationships with their daughters, and have built something lasting, for their families. Hearing how your trajectory changed by the people who influenced you, is empowering to hear.

I'm glad to hear from you again. Well, in my early years, my father was my mentor and he was who introduced me in the Electronics world. Later, I moved to Computer Science. I found some mentors on a web forum where I started with technical computer support and I scaled to programming. Nowadays, I mentor some students in several Computer Engineering and Electronic fields. I have to admit that mentors play a role to speed up your learning process in some specific fields. We rely on them to also get more encouraged to dig deeper into the field :)

What an interesting career you've been having. I completely agree with your point about mentoring. We live in an age that has low appreciation for apprenticeships, on the job learning, mentorship, and pride in a job well done. We need more folks like you to focus on following their dreams and interests by seeking out the knowledge they require rather than going into debt to attend college and have a seemingly endless stream of nonsense poured into them. I hold five degrees and was a university professor for a number of years, so I say this from a position of knowing.

Welcome back Jeri! You're videos are always a treat and one of KZread's treasures.
It's inspiring to hear all of the thing you have accomplished. I'm sure with all the previous success you have had, you'll have success with Tilt Five. Hopefully I'll catch you on the air someday!
Hey Jeri, so cool to see this. One of my most treasured possesions is the C64-on-a-chip deal. I would love to get my hands on a C64 bass! Take care and stay awesome.
I’m so glad to see you back. Please continue! And thank you for another great message to help me educate and motivate my students!
No clue when i subscribed to your channel, but this popped up in my subscriptions, great video and I'm looking forward to more.

I remember the time in senior design class when I used a Jeri Ellsworth video to explain what I was using for a logic level translation circuit.
Thanks Jeri; always a pleasure when you post! Appreciate your fantastic message. Couldn’t agree more. 73 DE K5IT K
Hi Jeri, that was the best advice you can give the youth of today! Finding mentors to learn from is key to advance your knowledge base and help in future technologies. Thanks for a great video! Half life rocked!
You are such an inspiration. Thank you for supporting amateur radio. 👍
Great to see you post a video, Jeri. Please post more, even if it’s not interesting things you’re up to. Perhaps just fascinating science related things in general. Your content is always great and I hope you can get back to creating more. Thanks
_Jeri Ellsworth... Now that's a name I have not heard in a long time..._
Hey Jeri, just found your channel and my new rabbit hole. This is insanely cool. Thankyou so much for what you are doing and the way you communicate.
Your drive and creativity has been a constant inspiration. Voices and experiences like yours are critical to makers of all shapes and stripes (and ages!).
Fatman and circuitgirl show was my favorite. And all your short circuit videos were very informative. Thank you! Glad to see you on Youtbe again!
So great to here and see you again, especially on this side of the pandemic. You are a mentor, and you didn't mention your efforts and help using this platform 😊
The campers, and the youth in ham radio (and those not yet hams) will absolutely love this. Thank you!
Great to see you back! I was beginning to lose hope for any more videos.
So happy to see you back. As many have said, you have been a real inspiration to people have the curiosity to discover and learn. I have been inspired by your work to go beyond my comfort zone in engineering without a formal engineering degree... Thank you!
Youre awesome Jeri. Thanks for inspiring me and so many others.
It's very nice to see you again on the road. Best regards from Venezuela
Dear Jeri , Thank you for this video. We all had mentors in our careers who helped us, accompanied us, to become what we are today. I wish you a good progression in your personal life, as professional. Friendship, from a French amateur radio operator ; Thierry F5PQV
Jeri, you (and your mentors) are amazing. Stay safe and keep up the good work!
One of a few undeniably interesting, decent people I'm always pleased to hear from. Very little would happen in aviation without mentors. I agree with all of this.
I've always been interested in designing electronics and for years i thought it would be impossible to do so at home until i found your videos of you making transistors at home, those videos alone have been a huge inspiration to keep pursuing what i love! Thank you!
Great to see another video! You're such an inspiration, and part of the reason I went into engineering. I hope we get to see more videos soon :)
Jeri has inspired more people to do great things than she will ever realize. Thank You Jeri and 73
i cannot possibly express how much I love you and your channel, I wish there were more people with this style. going deep into niche topics mixed with some random smart people rambling.
Jeri, I was always impressed by your knowledge and creativity. Greetings from hambradio op from Poland, Artur sp2qca
i was 8 years old when i ask my daddy to build a germanium diode radio. since then electronics was my passion. I am very grateful to Adolfo and Armando and their families. thank you for this video Jeri,
Holy crud, I can't believe i just found you. You are amazing. I saw your bass build and i love it.
I feel so delighted that you come back again on YT and hopefully, I'll see you come back on other of your social channel that I have followed too. Welcome back Jeri
Great to hear from you again!
Always amazed at you jeri, and knowing you have influence and part of big technology of this era like vr and other technology...nice to see to see you posting again
You are my hero, your videos changed my world, inspired me to keep projects and even started a race car project only because i wanted to be as cool as you are, thank you so much for this, for what you do and for who you are
Thank you for this video.
Always great to see a video from the legend herself.
Nice to see you back on the air hopefully will grace us more with your presence
Same here... only because of the ham radio community I am engineer today. People like Jerry, Ben (applied science), W2AEW or Dave from eevblog should have should have special place on YT, these guys inspired thousands of people across the world to to get into the engineering world. The amount of effort they put it their videos is unbelievable!!! When I did few professional'ish videos on my chanel I understood what it takes to make good YT videos. Please never stop what you doing guys, I love you and you are awesome! Thank you ❤️
My girls _loved_ the race car videos, for a logn while they kept asking if you finished the build. It's good to see you post again :-)
I was in your old channel looking for your macrochip video. I remember I watched this video 10 years ago . I was supprised that you have another channel. I'm glad to find you again thanks god. I was learning alot from you. Thank you so much hope we can meet one day. God bless you !
Awesome as always Jeri and Amy !
Hey Jerry, you are very big motivator for self learners. I have watched many of your videos which are knowledgeable. I was waiting fir your new video. After a long time this video has been made by you. You are great inspiration for youths and electronics enthusiasts.
Welcome back to the "packet waves"... :) Mentors selflessly open their mind and allow us to see through their own lenses the world and knowledge they already have, while allowing us to slowly climb on their shoulders to reach further on the horizon. Kudos for you to inspire so many to pursue their own engineering dreams.

So great to see you again!! And great video. You are an inspiration even to us 70 somethings. :-)
I just found your channel today because I was looking for knowledge about magnetic loops. Ended up watching all your video's. What a cool projects you did and above all such inspiring and motivating video's! 73's from the Netherlands.
Welcome back!, nice to here from you again
What an interesting career you've been having. I completely agree with your point about mentoring. We live in an age that has low appreciation for apprenticeships, on the job learning, mentorship, and pride in a job well done. We need more folks like you to focus on following their dreams and interests by seeking out the knowledge they require rather than going into debt to attend college and have a seemingly endless stream of nonsense poured into them. I hold five degrees and was a university professor for a number of years, so I say this from a position of knowing.
Always a fan.. good to hear from you.
Great to see you back Jeri. As mentor's I'd like to include my KZread heroes. Ken wheeler, Eric Dollard, fractal woman, and yourself. 💚🙏✨
You pretty much sparked my interest in pursuing pinball repair that I still do to this day. I love getting pinball machines back up and running. :)
Thank you for the I'm still here!!! - KJ7JHN Your AR glasses seem awesome. I hope that's going well. I'm not on the air, but per my dads request, I took the test and got technicians license. I also love your electroluminescent stuff. I've learned some from watching you. Thanks.
Hi Jeri, you have helped me get into electronics and learn how they work used and getting rid of fear faling on a project and be discouraged of continuing it. I learn my mistakes now and try to find parts from broken well in case for will be for guitar pedals
Yay, Been waiting for a video from you for ages. Good to see you again :)
You are an inspiration (and very cool- you love radios!)
Jeri!!! You are one of my heros. I know that your approach to tech is practical hands on which is my style as well. Mentorship. Internship. Learning as you work. Can you tell if conventional education/college degree has had any role in your amazing journey?
you are one of my biggest inspiration for my hobby electronics.I started 34 yo for the first time... because i was bored civil engineer....now 3 y later it is still just a hobby but it is magical ;)
You inspired me to start my own (micro)company, you tought me that if you want to do something, to learn something... well just do it... work hard and do your best to learn a lot of things and a lot of skills in the fields you are intrested in. people like you are a blessing to this world. Thank you very much and 73, IN3IVI.
Also, I love my Index. Thanks for all the fun, Jeri!
others say, 'friends', 'colleagues', 'partners' ---rarely do we hear 'mentors'... maybe that's because nobody thank them well enough than Ms Jeri!!! She's sooo down-to-earth, and always thank (profusely) people who has helped her in any of her endeavors... Love from the Philippines!!!
It's great to see you, Jeri! I've missed you and your videos. :D
Thank you for your inspirational videos, engineering is an exciting passion/career/hobby...
Make more video PLEASE! That you talk about weather and wind is enough, I really like listening to your voice and your experience.
Hi Jeri, you are an inspiration to all!
Welcome back!! You go, girl!

Welcome back Dudette
Hey, great message, great to hear from you again!
You are a great teller. No errr, no arrr, you just pause micro and carry on. Really really like that kind of way of speaking. Almost a lost art .And all the other stuff you have done over the past many years.
I’ve followed you over the years… and loved watching your progress over the decades (wow… it’s really been that long?). Keep innovating! Tim aka. G6NFB
You were my mentor on your racecar chassis and roll cage builds.
Jeri your awesome, have a blessed weekend.
YOU'RE BACK! FINALLY!!! We miset to so mutch
Nice you back again....good for you
Jeri! So good to see you again! :)

Welcome back! Been a long while since your last video!
Great job done, Jeri! You can never gone wrong in life making the final Decission to become a licenced HAM. That's all I can say about it! Happy sunday to you. 73's de Your Frriend Uncle Guenter
Great seeing you again.
Good to see you doing videos, would love to see a part 2 of the mag loop antenna.
No idea how your channel has escaped me. Saw your C 64 bass video on Reddit. Recently retired after 30 years at Apple. I can think of a few things that need inventin'. ;-)
Quite a History of learning and innovation with the aid of Elmers of all kinds. TY Jerry, we look forward to buying from TILT5.
You are my most important mentor, no doubts.
