I am using my Quest as a movie theater, FTP server, python script processor, FFmpeg media encoder, and I also have own VPN with ZeroTier installed to connect to my pc "virtually locally" from anywhere. Oh and also I am using new Bing AI assistant (GPT-4) that I ask questions by voice from time to time. I think that is the most of non-vr things I am using on my quest :D

Quest don't have video in (hdmi or analog) so you need a some sort of capture device connected to PC and VD to stream to Quest. You won't have head tracking or 3D view. And FPV video feed is usually not great (except for DJI but they don't allow hdmi output so you can't capture it). And boy I guarantee you it would be nightmare to use even if you manage to set it up as Q2 is really big and heavy for fpv. I've had box FPV goggles slightly bigger than quest and oh boy it was so much better when I bought smaller better FPV goggles. Also, it is possible to have 3d stereo in some goggles like SkyZones, and use headtracker to look around but really noone is doing that and there are really good reasons for that. But FPV sims are as fun and you can run them via steamlink or vd or airlink
I mainly use my Quest with either Meta Horizons Workrooms or Immersed (changes with my mood tbh). Bought a Logitech MX Keys and MX Master mouse specifically so i can Bluetooth to the quest and it's pretty good, the one downside of the Quest 2 is the poor grayscale pass-through. I'm hoping the Quest 3 comes at a reasonable price and has decent enough pass-through, it'd be on all week if it does, additionally it would need to be less chonky as trying to drink a coffee before it's cold with the Quest 2 is... entertaining. For fun though, sideloading Edge and playing Xbox Cloud Games is a blast, being able to lie flat in bed to play some Xbox is a lot easier on the neck/back.
I like watching videos in VR. I put my headphones on, lie back, and feel like I have the cinema to myself.
Awesome video, great topic!
lying in bed and having a screen instead of a ceiling is such a comfort
Wow, this video was so awesome that I wish it could have lasted forever! VR gaming is such a fascinating topic that captivates the hearts of many viewers, and it's no surprise that it's the main focus of every KZread VR channel out there. But let's not forget that VR has so much more to offer than just gaming, and that's why videos like this are so valuable and highly appreciated. I have no doubt that this kind of content will not only keep your current subscribers engaged but will also attract many new ones!

I haven’t actually thought about doing something so creative with my quest. Although I have wanted to use it for homework
Dude you are my favourite KZreadr haha. I wanna play with u damn bad but keep informing us with the newest and best information ℹ️
I've switched from using the oculus launcher with airbridge to using virtual desktop instead with steam VR (using the airbridge with internet passthrough) and it's sooo much better, i cant seem to get the visuals quite as sharp as before but the ease of use & the cozy desktop enviroments not using PC resourses makes up for it easy. Ive even began using it for some 2d gaming and watching TV
Well, i'm not really using my Quest 2 for the Quest 2 System. I only use my Quest 2 with a Link Cable connected to my Gaming PC for SteamVR. And i actually don't have any battery life issues, because i'm using the Kuject Link Cable. The Kuject Link Cable connects your Quest 2 with your PC and your Charging Cable, which increases your Battery life immensely. I can play VRChat (PCVR) with my Quest 2 from 10pm through the entire night until 7am and still have more than enough battery for playing even longer.
Planning to use my future quest 2 as a combination entertainment center and office space
Air travel. I'm not much for gaming, but I like to watch a lot of movies and TV in my quest 2. I've been travelling a fair amount in the past few months, so I've sideloaded a Netflix client which allows me to download content. In advance of my trips, I download a whole slew of stuff I might want to watch. For the air travel, I book a seat with extra legroom (bulkhead or exit row typically) so that there won't be an issue with the person in front of me tilting their seat back into my head space, and I choose a window seat if possible so that I won't be disturbed if a row-mate needs to go and return for restlessness or bathroom reasons. Once seated for my flight, before I must turn off my phone for take-off, I turn on my phone hotspot, power-up my quest and start the Netflix client (to ensure that proper authentication to the Netflix service has occurred). Then I suspend the Quest and set it aside, put the phone on airplane mode, and stow the gear for take-off as may be required. Once in the air, I'm all ready to go. I use the BoboVR strap and have 4 batteries on hand so power's not an issue. I have learned the hard way LOL, to turn off headset-tracking because if you don't, the inertial sensors get very confused with the aircraft movements and the result is very weird and unpleasant. I also use Bose Quiet Comfort ANC headphones (in wired mode) which protects my row-mates from having to hear my audio and the ANC is awesome for the otherwise high ambient noise levels of air travel. One final hint is that when you order your glass of wine, ask for it to just be the little bottle (if such is offered) rather than a glass, so that you can sip it without having to push your headset out of the way as would be necessary to sip from a glass. All in all, it is for me a great way of travel as time just speeds by.
Thanks for testing so we don't have to ;-) I am now backing up my Quest 2 (side link) have 280apps installed (most are side loaded) ... Got to the point where something running in background is causing issues.. Factory resetting..
Without having to sideload, I use Virtual Desktop and play my steam games in a theater with xbox controller or bluetooth mouse and keyboard connected to my Quest. I do this from downstairs as well as my couch in my game room. I don't use my monitor anymore for gaming and play all games in my quest.

Hi love your KZread. You have helped me learn so much about the quest 2 head set. I 55 found it to be easy to work the headset from your video. I have a question? Can you confirm if the Quest Pro has dropped its price from $1500 to $1000 here in the US. Someone posted in Discord.
You can also play steam games on virtual desktop with a bluetooth controller connected to your pc. You are confined to virtaul desktop environments tho.
Hey Mysticle: That UNIFI wireless access point you've got over your shelf; do you use that for PCVR or just general wifi coverage? I've got one laying around and was curious to see how it would work for virtual desktop and whatnot.
You should make a video on VR gaming on windows 365 I got it running on my Xbox series s

You just gave me an idea that i want to try, i know i can remote control my modded Nintendo Switch to my pc through usb-c (or wifi), wich mean i can then use my Quest 2 (connected to pc, itself wired to switch) to play Switch games on Quest Of course it would be awesome to play Nintendo Switch VR game, but the desktop link is just a window and not a full scene thing sadly, but at least i can play Zelda and some other game in a big virtual screen :D Update: it works!

I got Sen 3d VR running on quest, it was cool to be able to play super mario bros 3. The quest controllers were a challenge to use. I wasn't able to get a controller to work with it though.
I think for something like Quest 2 to be justifiable for every is to use it for productivity Just imagine you only need a vr standalone, a keyboard and a mouse to have a multiscreen setup that you could bring it anywhere, and can at least run browser and office app locally
@SulixD

you already do that, if google office apps are enough for you
I had an Oculus Go, Rift S, I have a Quest 2 & a PSVR 2 (which I love), I'm also a former Network Engineer with 20+ years IT experience. With all that said, I honestly think until VR gets to the point where the headsets are roughly 50% the size & weight of the Quest Pro & 50% faster, incorporates full color VR/AR untethered with full body tracking it's not going to get where it needs to be. The good news is, we're getting there rapidly! As we've seen the headsets are getting smaller, lighter, faster & dramatically improved displays. The new sensors from HTC are a huge step in the full body tracking area. I think late 2024 to mid 2025 is going to be the time we finally get the Goldilocks VR/AR headset...
I have been using steam link on quest 2 with steam deck and it's pretty cool. It a lower resolution because it's showing the resolution of the 800 due to the steam deck screen. It's fine if you want to play older retro games where you don't notice the resolution.

@@brdido I would still recommend virtual desktop if you want to connect to your PC through a wire for the least amount of latency ( I have it on my laptop). I am surprised he didn't mention the fact that their is a native 360 VR PSP emulator for the quest that runs great.
Moonlight is better than Steam Link. Def recommend. Although Virtual Desktop would do the job just fine as well.
You missed doing virtual housework like vacuuming the floor or doing the dishes
I NEVER thought in my life of using sidequest to install steam link
I really like retroarch for emulation, although its a bit finicky
One of the things I have enjoyed is installing the Xbox app on my quest then using remote play so it looks like it is on a much larger screen than the one I actually own. The graphics aren't the absolute best and the latency makes multiplayer difficult, but it's still quite enjoyable
I use it for Xbox remote play streaming I sideload it from apk pure using sidequest

is there a way to connect my quest 2 to my ps4 to use it like a psvr? my psvr broke and i have games on my ps4 i dont feel like buying on my Oculus to play them again.
I've watched a bunch of 3d movies on it, and I played shadow of the tomb raider with stereoscopic 3d on my rift. It should be possible on quest but I haven't figured out how to get it to work yet.
I use my quest To play Call of Duty mobile And Apex legends I also installed the game pass app to play Xbox games. For some reason I couldn't get Fortnite to work. It keeps telling me to deactivate my developers mode, which I think will cause it not to work for the other games I have side loaded. Great video.
can you do video on oculus go, try if it will run minecraft vr natively and steam vr. OFC ONLY IF YOU HAVE IT.
psp can be emulated in ful vr now natively
I hangout in vrchat to meet my friends and socialize there. I basically have a life aside from my real one. So VR basically is part of my life now. I wont leave it to dust in some cabinet.
I wanted use quest 2 for work and study because I don't have permanent home and thought i can do virtual multi monitor setup, but it's not worth it at all. Small resolution, Fov, godray, long set up time, uncomfortable, hot. I tried us it for 3D movies and immersion was high, but small clarity focus aria, resolution, comfort and battery life killing all vibes. Only great is in vr games
