Your Physics Library: Books Listed More Clearly

I reviewed some physics books in a previous talk. Some people say that they did not get all the names and authors. After requests to list the books more clearly I do so in this video. Furthermore I add a few other books.

Incredible, sir! I am not a college physics student, but i do love physics. (I once considered studying physics in college but gave it up due to family problems) Your recommendations are excellent, especially you do not evade giving your honest comments solely out of being politically correct. That, in fact, helps a lot for us to avoid getting into the wrong paths (or at least unwittingly running a unnecessary detour). Thank you, professor!

I have Gravitation on my shelf because I knew Robe4t Fprward and had a number of discussion about his rotating gradiometer and and I deo of mine for measuring the "speed of gravity". Forward's gradiometer and the Eotvos Experiment are the only instruments discussed in Gravitation. I feel about Quantum Mechanics by Simon the way you do about the one you hated.

I would suggest that one of the most important set of books is the Encyclopedia Britannica. They're an excellent primer for self study in that topics in the Macropedia, including Electricty and Magnetisn, Energy Conversion, etc, will give you an overarching view of the subject matter..

Thanks for clearing that up. I’m trying to learn basic Physics. I learned electronics as a technician, and I’m trying to learn the underlying fundamentals. Do you have an opinion on Halliday, Resnick, Walker? It seems to be relatively popular for fundamental Physics. Also, have you read Isaac Asimov’s Understanding Physics? It’s written in a conversational style, and is not very technical, but I think it’s a good prelude to learning Physics. I’m reading it now to remind myself of the basic concepts and stimulate my interest before I start in on a more rigorous approach.

It would've been more helpful, Mr. O'Reilly, if you'd given the reasons behind choosing the books. For example, why do you deem 'Serway & Jewett' a little better than the one by 'Halliday, Resnick & Walker' or like 'Young & Freedman'? What the exclusivity of the book is that makes it stand out from the others if any.
