My husband started mouth breathing about 2 1/2 years ago when he sank into a deep depression and began having severe anxiety. I’m not sure it’s connected (although I believe it is)but in the last 18 months his health plummeted and 3 surgeries. I found you about a year ago and have tried my best to get him to follow your instructions but he claims the mouth breathing is a habit he can’t break. He tries to hide it now but his nose tells on him,,it only takes a few short minutes of it and his nose starts dripping. For a year and a half I thought I would lose my mind with his breathing because it was so loud and constant every waking hour, it was like a none stop whistle. I longed for him to sleep because when he slept he breathed normal. I dreaded mornings, but bedtime was bliss. It is better somewhat,,,now,,,but,,,,Honestly it’s a FIGHT to get him breathing right sometimes but it works. Once under control he has no problem breathing. Yet,,,,within the hour and that’s really stretching it he’s back at it again. He has to be reminded repeatedly throughout the day. IF,,,,,,,this is a habit he says he can’t break,,,how can I help him AND avoid more health issues?

He just cares and knows his stuff. I was not sure and I went to National INSTITUTES OF HEALTH AND FOUND STUDIES ON BUTEYKO BREATHING I THINK PATRICK TEACHES AND MANY DOCTORS ENT'S SPECIFICALLY SAID THEY FOUND IT TO WORK 99.99% OF THE TIME. I WENT TO ANOTHER in states and the other person was charging a lot and we could barely afford but it's like if you love your child you will pay the world right? Anyway the other person helped a slight bit wished I could have gotten the amount of help that I paid in cash if that makes sense? Anyway it lead us to find Patrick who was a blessing to us.

Why is Patrick now saying not to tape mouth if have sleep apnea? I heard him say on another channel it could even make it worse. Is that if one has issues with air getting through nose? I know of a dentist who did a lot of his own research checking his patients O2 levels at night and mouth taping did a better job than the mouth devices. Given a good percentage of folks give up on CPAP and the mouth devices why not give them this option to see if lying on side with mouth closed helps? James Nester who wrote Breath developed sleep apnea when he closed his nose and used only his mouth so would not the opposite be true, get rid of apnea if open nose and close mouth?

He said not to tape if you aren't using a CPAP device but suggests to try taping with a nasal mask. It can be dangerous to mouth tape without CPAP for those with sleep apnea because it can restrict more airflow and a CPAP is essential to keep the airway open and mouth taping alone will not address this
