Your memory isn't accurate-and that's healthy | Flavio Donato | TEDxBasel
For many of us, memories are permanent things that are created once to remain with us for the rest of our lives, but how rigid, how unchangeable are they in reality? As it turns out, not very much. Memories possess the plasticity to change with time in order to better align with the experiences we make, and by doing so, they migh help us imagine the future.
Flavio is an assistant professor in Neurobiology at the University of Basel since 2019. Italian of origin, he received his B.S. and M.S. in Biotechnology from the University of Rome, and PhD from the FMI in Basel for his studies on microcircuit remodeling processes underlying learning in the adult. While working in Norway, in 2017 Flavio was awarded the Eppendorf & Science prize for neurobiology for discovering network mechanisms driving the development of brain's circuits for the representation of space.
Since Flavio moved back to Basel to start his own independent lab, he has been investigating how memories are encoded and stored in the brain of infant and adult mammals. When not in the lab, he can be found enjoying the vibrant musical and artistic Basler scene, or feeding his schoggi weggli addiction in one of the city bakeries, one of the main reasons he moved back to Switzerland.

Thanks. Now I know all my memories of being molested, beaten, and harassed by my family are subjective. If they don't remember it, it must not have happened. I'm just living with CPTSD because my mind made it up.
Memories bring us happy.
Amazing, thank you!
great speech, many thanks!
Inspiring
This is interesting! Great speech.
This man is Great preach
Awesome speech 👍
Thoughts attract...have been thinking about it recently.
Cheers
Thereby, we could say that our memory is focused to help us as a living being to predict situations in the future thanks to our previous experiences , like a biological device that we have and works as a warning or way to help us to tailor our decisions, instead of having that usesless utility such as remembering things just because. In that way, our memory has helped us throughout the entire time we have been living as a race. I have never thought that memory could be seen like that. I guess it is about perspectives.
Maybe if you lived a dull life, void of things you wish you could forget.
Thanks for this informative talk.
Memory. And for that matter Perception; is a Fickle Two-Headed Monster. It can (theme and Variation Start a War. It Can Also/Instead Initiate and Perpetuate Love,.) Though (Unfortunately) there are some folks out there who would like to think theirs is Immaculate and the Gold Medal Cream of the Crop. Not Sure *ANY* Memory Out there is Working at 💯 Accurate.. I've heard tell from certain people, that we - remember (Absolutely) Everything that Happens - Everything that we say, Everything that we Do, and (Especially?.) Everything that we See and Hear.. And yet.. ...Not Always; but - many times.. ...those same folk will mention forgetting something.. ...and/or not remembering something. Well - -- that seems to fly in the face (and contradict) the assertion of remembering everything (that we do, say, hear, see, and experience) To Directly Quote from the last spoken line from (imho) Christopher Nolan's Best Film (lol) thus far, Memento: "Now.. ...where was i"
bravo
I remember watching this a long time ago! On my 1864 color T.V. Really made sense. Love this guy.

They were already. The West Bank and Gaza were originally set aside for the Palestinians. Blame the wars of 1967 and 1973 for Israeli occupation of those areas. Israel actually gave Gaza back in 1994. Palestinian sympathizers simply do not understand history.

There are studies provided if you search the subject. There is one where a room of volunteers witness a staged crime. A person involved runs through the room and grabs a purse. They interview the people present in different rooms and they don't agree on many of the same details. Some say the person had a hat, some say they were dressed in a certain color. Eye witness reports aren't what they are hyped to be. Rarely will anyone remember the event accurately and they're often way off on the details.
