I get what you’re saying. Prices are high but it is possible. I got a good quality designer wool coat for $100. It was a lot but I saved. Obviously, you buying a haul of high quality sustainable clothes would take a lot of money.

I think we should take the spirit of capsule wardrobes without the literal sense of them being neutral and boring. For example, choose items you know you can swap in and out of outfits.

Right I think that a capsule wardrobe means something different to everyone depending on what colors they like to wear I focused so long on having neutral colors which I love and just recently I started wearing more colorful things and it makes me feel happy

Skinny jeans are just practical here in the UK - it's wet and windy half the year and I don't want my jeans flapping about or dragging in puddles. 😅

My unpopular opinion is that clothes SHOULD cost more because garment workers must be compensated fairly for their labor AND our wages/income levels should also increase (via employers/corporations) so that affording quality clothing is accessible to all.

As long as companies are allowed to outreach and build factories in other countriess, there's no way to know if they have properly paid and fairly treated workers. Not saying that workers in the US would nessarily get better treatment but it's easier to control with the US laws

Clothes don’t need to cost more for that to happen… big corp needs to start valuing the 3rd class and see them as humans. This is not just a clothing issue, I mean think about how many people it takes to pick fruit for us to pick up at the store? A lot of people, basically everything at any store is made in another country. We need to fight for our stuff to be made in the USA

its not unpopular to say that wages should increase, but its impossible to raise everyone’s wages in the world so its not a feasible solution and makes fashion more inaccessible with the rising prices as it is

“Dressing your age” is just misogyny and sex shaming. No one says to a man “oh you’re not dressing like a 40 year old”. Because it’s a way to tell a woman to dress more professional, to not show thigh because then you’re a sl*t, or on the other end, oh no she’s only 19 she’s too prude because she’s wearing long skirts, or on the contrary, a 15 year old shouldn’t be showing cleavage or leg because she’s not old enough to want to dress sexy, or dressing too child-like, or too queer for women over 25. It’s fucking misogyny that’s what it is. And it’s exhausting. Dress however you like! Someone will always try to criticize but don’t listen.

exactly. i’ve noticed i’m scared of getting older (i’m currently 26) because i’m afraid of being shamed for dressing “too young” and wearing trendy outfits. i wear a lot of trendy stuff and more “edgy” outfits, and i feel like it gets harder and harder to wear those thing as you get older because of how much you’re judged for it. it’s like we’re expected to suddenly have an all beige and navy blue business casual wardrobe the second we turn 30. i don’t want that, but i already have a hard enough time being treated with respect because i’m autistic and not conventionally attractive. idk there’s just so much pressure for women to “act right” at all times. not just from men, but from other women as well

Oops, I forgot to add my hot take. I fully support collecting and hoarding clothes. I have 30 years of fashion packed into two walk-in closets. I don't really have to buy the latest trend (but sometimes i do buy it anyway). I have it somewhere in there. Seriously, buy cool clothes, when they fall out of fashion, tuck them away for the next time they are cool again.

I don't really understand why it's necessary to tuck clothes away until they are back "in fashion". Similar to the jeans thing, if I find a style of clothing or a silhouette that's really flattering on my body why do I need to move on from it just because other people do? I'm with you! And even if something doesn't come back in style, I'd still wear it if I love it. I've alwasy found getting rid of "out of fashion" clothes a bit sad and definitely wasteful.

An unpopular (maybe) opinion of mine, is that ppl should compliment outfits rather than body types, when someone is clearly making content to show off their outfit. I feel like as soon as they see the person doesn't have a flat stomach or something, they don't think much of the creativity of the actual outfit, whereas a different body type would normally get so many compliments for leggings and a tee (I don't want to offend anyone though...)

This. I always compliment on people’s outfits because it’s a personal choice they made and so many of us can’t chose our body type for various reasons.

I feel like capsule wardrobes or having all basic pieces that work together works for people who don't have a passion for fashion but want to look put together. Minimalistic wardrobes should not be forced on people who are very passionate about fashion and like to have a lot of clothes because they want options and flexibility. Now that doesn't mean someone needs a barbie dreamhouse size wardrobe, but when fashion is really your THING its not reasonable for people to expect you to keep to a very simple minimal wardrobe.

absolutely agree with this. I'm currently helping a friend build one because she has a hard time figuring out how to easily and quickly put together an outfit for herself and isn't looking for a creative output through fashion. She wants the ease and practicality of a capsule wardrobe and I think they're perfect for people like that. I'm kinda the opposite so I understand why some people won't like/want the capsule system, but it's not like the capsule wardrobe has to be used by everyone. It's simply a useful tool for certain people.

As a 40 something i get a lot of folks thinking I’m younger because I have vivid colored hair and wear bright clothes etc. it’s interesting to see what age appropriate dressing is supposed to be anymore. Now that I’m in my forties I can say with confidence that there is no such thing as age appropriate clothing.

As a curvy person who doesn't have a flat stomach and who wore low rise jeans in the 2010s, I definitely agree that some styles only look good on some people. I think there are curvy girls who rock low rise but personally my body was not designed for them. They always fall down for me and it is not at all cute.

Color analysis was a "thing" in the 90's. I remember the "Color Me Beautiful" parties. Everything old is new again....

I was just saying this! I was very shocked to see it's resurgence on youtube, it was considered passé for many years. Glad it has gotten more inclusive with more categories.

My unpopular opinion is that I don't appreciate the assumption that neutral = sophisticated and colorful = gaudy and childish! I feel like this is a very Western assumption, and many cultures use color to symbolize wisdom, intellect, and the beauty of the earth! I definitely think that both have their place, but I would argue that many colors are as versatile as neutrals. I really love color analysis and find it truly fascinating. I would honestly love to become a color analyst someday. While it is trendy now, it has also been trendy in the 20th century and is becoming more accessible. How we perceive colors is simple physics, so of course there is objectivity to it, but of course, no one is ever going to make you wear colors you don't want to wear. I personally have found it very useful and can see it reducing my consumption habits in the future.

I’m just over the “trendy” sneakers every year. Every year there’s another sneaker we should buy, i.e. FIFA Destroyer, Converse Hike, New Balance, and now Sambas (which were already super trendy ~10 years ago). You just need to choose what you like and is comfortable.

I am also 29, and I genuinely had not really found my style or found a way to dress that feels like me until reaching my mid to late twenties! How sad would it be for me (or anyone) to turn 30 or whatever age, and suddenly feel no longer able to wear loved items that society deems as "too childish"

As a capsule wardrobe girlie, I think the people that don’t like the capsule wardrobe completely miss the mark. Meaning they’re seeing it as a “fashion movement” and that’s what it’s become but that’s not what it’s about. It’s a tool that helps push your overall personal development by having you take a look in the mirror at your spending habits, style habits, who you are, and how you present yourself to the world. And if you want to do the work just say that.

Mid-30s millennial here. Regarding skinny jeans, they were never my vibe, and I'm loving that wide leg jeans are becoming so much more available (and that all those snotty articles about JNCO jeans being so silly and best left in the past are eating their words), but the only issue I really had with skinny jeans when they were very much in style for so many years was that they were almost all you could find. Anywhere I went, their jeans were at least 80-90% skinny. I don't dislike them, but I'm glad they aren't the default of retailers anymore.

Mid 30s as well and I relate with the whole trouble of a fashion piece being the only available option for years; low-rise (a.k.a butt crack) jeans are the ones I can recall back when I was younger. I could not find a pair of mid-rise jeans for ages when the low-rise were really popular.

I definitely believe that the problem with clothing in the eras when fashion was dictated by millennial trends is that retailers stocked only those single styles for years. I hated jeans for 10 years straight because all you could find were skinny jeans which made me look masculine because i have smaller hips and wider shoulders.

Capsule wardrobes definitely aren’t for everyone (certainly not for me!), but I disagree about the hot take that it stifles creativity. Cultivating a small wardrobe that reflects your personal style and finding fun ways to style the same clothes is in itself a way of expressing your creativity. The term “capsule wardrobe” doesn’t have to mean everything is that beige mom aesthetic just bc that’s what we saw on Instagram. I’ve seen people with capsule wardrobes (either by choice or necessity due to money reasons) get so creative while learning new skills by embroidering/hand stitching cute details, hemming, dyeing, or even just wearing something old in a new way with layering, tying something up, changing up accessories, unique tucks, etc. The difference is that capsule wardrobes give you the *choice* in how creative you want to be. Many people make their wardrobe all have the same vibe so if they want to they can just throw something on without having to think about if it looks good together. That’s ok too, but it certainly isn’t the only outcome

16:11 - there is a situational irony between her outfit and her opinion. Because her outfit has a fun, sunny carefree vibe due to her bodytype. The same outfit on a fleshier person would be a totally different / sex-forward vibe. So while I agree the freedom to wear any outfit as any body type is a theoretically ideal we could reach ....the freedom to choose the vibe of the outfit independent of our bodytype is not. Some bodytypes are more grossly sexualized than others, even in the same coverage cuts. Ashley Graham talks about her body being seen as inherently p*rnographic -- even in identical ( or even more conservatives) styles than her traditional modelling colleagues.

I kinda disagree with the notion that all clothes look good on everyone regardless of body type. Now of course, a lot of this is subjective and the societal preference for thin, white, ablebodied people is a huge factor, BUT sadly a big chunk of clothing is not made with all bodies in mind. There are the obvious problems like brands just sizing up with no regard to proportions, but there are also pieces that just aren’t made for everyone. Some cuts and fabrics are just supposed to fall in a specific way which only works on a tall, slim person for example. Now I am absolutely not saying that there are types of clothing that you can’t wear, that’s silly, but there are more then enough clothing pieces that won’t work for a bunch of people.

this was something I meant to add into the video, but there's definitely an additional part of the conversation where brands just take the patterns they use for straight sizes and just make them bigger without adding additional measurements or even just consideration that would make the item lay different and not give the same affect as it would on a straight size. The brand Tunnel Vision shows this a lot on their tiktok about how important it is to actually have different sized models while creating the garments because they may have to change small things to give the overall fit/affect. My stance was more about when people say certain sizes can't wear low rise, loose clothes, etc. because they deem it is not flattering. Jessica Blair does a lot of videos showcasing these types of comments she gets and also my friend Karina has done similar videos in that subject.

A capsule wardrobe in my mind is any wardrobe that a person creates for their own style and is specific to a season. It’s the “blueprints” online that say a person needs 2 sweaters, one pair of denim is absolutely not the true meaning of a capsule wardrobe.

I had my own “wearing vs styling” moment yesterday! I was going to Oktoberfest and hating all the outfits I was coming up with so I reverted to a comfort outfit for me: tight black top with high waisted baggy jeans and docs. But I paired it with a denim vest that matched my jeans and a hair kerchief and it looked super cute and 70s! I’ve just realized I prefer basics with fun accessories or basics with one statement piece.

To me, a capsule wardrobe is a kind of fantasy, akin to imagining if I were to live in a tiny house. The reality is I have too much stuff, so no, that's not going to happen. But it's fun if you're going on a vacation to plan a capsule. I am working overseas, doing my second gig now, and I created a capsule before I left. But after being here I actually ending up buying enough clothes to pretty much create a new capsule...oops. It's interesting to experiment with, but I at this point I can't really commit to it or make it my lifestyle. And a capsule doesn't have to be neutral, it doesn't have to be boring. I've def seen some boring ones, but I've seen some good ones too.

I think certain personalities gravitate to capsule wardrobes. People who don't like clutter, and people who don't want to waste time thinking about what they wear. A person who has a more creative personality, might be more likely to lean the opposite direction.

I am in my 40s and one of my favorite items of clothing is a bright pink romper that has "Hello Kitty" written all over it. I don't care if people think I'm too old to wear it. It makes me happy!

The whole thing about a capsule wardrobe is it should last for years and adding new special pieces in every so often. I see MANY people now do it per season so they are still buying often which completely defeats the purpose. Another opinion I’ve had for years is for example a well made actual leather jacket or boots (docs or birks, etc), aren’t specifically sustainable brands but they are very well made, they will last for years and in turn are sustainable (if you plan to actually wear them). 💕

Yes! The real first step in sustainable fashion is to stop shopping. Wear what you have and replace things when they break or wear out. People don’t want to hear that (myself included) because we like buying, but wearing your well made docs for 10 years is more sustainable than buying and doing closet clean outs all the time.

Sustainable to me means being creative with what we got. i think clothes swapping clubs are fun :) especially for those of us who can not get into the thrift stores. also, i think its cool to have someone shop for you at the thrift, as long they know what they're doing. :)

I hate skinny jeans but I will always own a pair to keep on hand to wear with tall boots.

I think sustainable clothing needs to be more affordable and more size inclusive. And I think its possible to do this while still paying workers a living wage.

Many people I've encountered think it's not possible to offer clothing at fast fashion prices but ethically and sustainably at the same time. I personally think it's very possible.

Can I just say, I'm pro 'gatekeeping" because of the fact that people have made a lack of replying into a negative phenomenon. The entitlement just makes me want to not help them lol. Pinterest (and other social media, that's just where I've seen a lot of requests from) used to be a fun relaxing time and I've seen negativity there lately and honestly you might as well just add fuel to the fire for entertainment. It takes so little to make people mad online now.

From what I can see, a number of the "wearing versus styling" videos is about tucking the shirt differently, or combining staples. I am in the camp of those who think that these are great tips for those of us who don't go clothes shopping a lot. Styling is a great way to make the old look new and bring new life to an article of clothing you got so tired of that you stopped wearing it. Have fun with your clothes!

Skinny jeans were at their peak when I was in high school, after I graduated I got into an abusive relationship and gained a lot of weight. After my relationship ended for good, I decided to prioritize my health again and I ended losing a lot of weight in the process. Now I wear my old jeans as a point of pride for myself, because I worked really hard for a few years to get to the point where they fit again

As a person who just got their colour season analysed, I totally agree with Alexa!! Most of my clothes "don't match me" but I still absolutely love them and will wear them still. I might take my colour season into account when I wanna dress to look perfectly put together (aka maybe a wedding guest dress or a interview or smth) but otherwise, I only really apply my colour season when I try out makeup for a more everyday look. Otherwise I will wear the clothes that "don't suit me at all" 😂😂😂

In regards to the ‘influencers at fashion week’ thing, most celebrities that get invited, and have been invited for years, also aren’t experts or key players in the fashion industry and no one seems to complain about that… imo influencers are basically just a different, ‘relatable’ category of celebrity 🤷🏽‍♀️

My unpopular opinion is that it drives me CRAZY when someone asks on a video “where is that from” and the poster responds “the link is in my bio!” And I have to click 1500000 links just to get to it. Like girl. Just tell me. I know they want commission from the link but it drives me CRAZY

my hot take is that lowrise anything looks bad on absolutely everyone and the only reason i understand for ppl preferring that sort of style is tummy issues (as in, anything constricting your tummy upsets your stomach)

I feel like the “wearing vs styling” also comes down to personal preference. For me, I don’t enjoy having a lot of accessories, so my version of “styling” might be what someone else would see as just “wearing” my clothes.

I absolutely believe, as you do, that people should wear what they want. I’m 60 and a size 10, that’s two strikes in some fashion brands. I shopped in the Jr department until I was in my 40s. I started gaining weight and my style changed to accommodate that. Also, back then the misses or women’s sections had very few options for style. I did pretty good though. I still managed to maintain a fashionable look. I have lost the weight and even being 60 I still want to look and feel good. Don’t think I won’t put on cute dressy slacks and a silk shirt and heels to grocery shop at Walmart. Because I will. Lol. But let me just say that my style has changed as I have gotten older. Example, I don’t wear tiny bikinis anymore 😆. I still let my hippie style shine through. And I don’t shop at Forever 21. Never did anyway. The point of this TLDR is, I’m going to wear what the heck I want and if people don’t like it they don’t have to look. 😁

I am in my 40s and I still shop in the junior's department at some stores. Mainly because the clothes in the women's departments look like something my mom would wear and I don't want to dress like her. But oftentimes I doubt people would even know I bought something from the junior's dept. if I didn't tell them. Clothes are clothes. It shouldn't matter what section of the store you buy them in.

Im so glad wide leg jeans are in, because I wear the hijab, and I love that I can get so many jeans I’m seeing nowadays without feeling uncomfortable. I adore loose, airy clothing. Skinny jeans are still cute, though.

The dressing for your age thing is quite interesting. The way I have dressed over the years has changed a lot (now in my 30s) and I will still say I dress on the 'young' side of things. But it's less about societal expectations, and more about how my body has changed over the years and the type of clothing that is marketed at younger people and what they can realistically afford. A lot of fast fashion, as discussed in a different section, is cheap and basically see-through and thin as heck. When I was young I didn't mind this sort of stuff so much. There were just the clothes that were available that I could afford and all my friends were wearing a similar thing so I went with them. But I'm older now and can afford higher quality stuff, plus I just feel more confident in thicker, non-polyester clothing given my body just isn't as firm as it used to be. I still wear short skirts but I'll wear them with tights, you know, that sort of thing. The image I am trying to project has also changed. When I was young, I just didn't think about this sort of shit much but now I'm an Elder, I have a much more defined personality and confidence in who I am. Not to say that younger folk don't have this, I just didn't. I was chaos in a cheap thin dress.

As a maximalist the accessories thing can be realistic! I have a bunch of accessories! But like you said it takes years of collecting its not something you can quickly obtain

My unpopular opinion is that people think capsule wardrobes are boring because they see the basic examples and take them as law. If your style naturally gravitates towards color and pattern, you can make a colorful capsule! I feel it's supposed to be a capsule of things YOU typically wear, not a list of things everyone "must" wear (even if some people use that language) My other opinion is that people my age and older care too much about what younger people think lol. I can understand being worried about jeans trends if it makes styles you like impossible to find. But older millennials genuinely getting upset because younger people simply think our skinny jeans are unfashionable? I'm okay if a person literally a whole generation younger than me thinks I'm terribly uncool, it's not that serious (but i also just don't even WEAR jeans haha)

On the note of the gate keeping clothes thing: YES!!! I don’t understand how people have lost the ability to read comments or google something. They want the info spoon fed and most times you’ll find the item with a little bit of searching effort. I will say that it has gotten worse because TikTok took away the ability to pin comments for some reason. Not everything is gatekeeping. Creators just don’t wanna answer the same question a million times

Along with gatekeeping fashion, I'm reminded of when one of my classmates had a cool sweater from Target that was totally my vibe. I told her I liked it and asked her where she got it (I don't go to Target much), and she told me. But later, when my mom picked me up, she told me that that girl's mom texted her that my classmate was upset that I was gonna get that sweater when she had it first and worked hard to get it and that I'd be copying her. I do understand that, but it has made it difficult when she wears anything else I like before I get it, even when I liked it before she wore it, cuz I feel like she'll get offended whenever I wear that thing

I turned 25 during covid and I totally relate with feeling like I am still 25 😅 I also don't know how am I supposed to dress. I even think I wear more "childish"/girly/cutesy things more than when I was younger.

OH MY GOSH, when you switched to editing mode, I literally gasped. Girl, if I looked that gorgeous with my hair pulled back like that and those glasses, I would be soooo happy! You always look beautiful, of course, but you looked freaking stunning!

As for comfortable sneakers, I absolutely love the converse move platforms. I think the style is really cute and for me just the regular converse lift platforms are super uncomfortable.

Only fashion opinion I have that is fairly radical is that I HATE that a huge undertone of fashion is like... maximizing your "beauty" or your "attractiveness". To me fashion is about expressing yourself and your creativity, your likes, experimenting, communicating who you are from just a glance. Customizing the avatar you were given in this life. But every time I see something like "color analysis" or "dressing for your body type" or "flattering silhouettes" like!!!!! Why is everything so catered to dressing to "highlight your best features." They're all good features. What does "flattering" even mean? Can anyone define it without saying something fatphobic? Or eurocentric? Or gender essentialist?

I’m 5’1” & skinny jeans are basically all I own. Lol 😂 I have ONE pair of boot cut jeans, but they don’t really make them for short people lmao! Hence why I only own one pair 😢

A coworker came up to me asking me why I dress so young. And I told her I wear what I like and it makes me feel good. What I was wearing was an Adidas sweatshirt dress with white Birkenstock tennis shoes. I couldn’t believe she asked me that question. The other thing I want to comment on is in the 70s I wore low rise jeans and I had a little bit of a stomach. Who cares in my eyes what you wear as long as your clothing makes you feel good!

My unpopular opinion.... "Styling" vs "wearing" - i don't "do" accessories. I prefer my outfits to be simple & clean. I own 1 purse, a couple winter scarves and a black belt. Thats about it. I don't wear jewelry. So i am not one who cares about "styling" and think people spend too much time worrying about this 🤷

@@iylamstoy absolutely! You do what works for you, no judgement. I love the boho look and follow a few maximalist stylists, it just doesn't work for me.... Beth Jones is one of my favorite KZreadrs and she has every accessory!! I love her "always play dress up" attitude!

I am in my fifties and in my opinion there absolutely is age appropriate clothing.

I don't dress my age, I dress my activities. We all wore low-rise jeans from 1997-2007, body type be damned and I'm sure the flat-stomached and fupa-having alike SUFFERED so it's a hard no from me😅

Google lens is actually crazy. I once put in a photo of myself and I was wearing a pyjama set in it. You could only see a tiny bit. As I took that image as reference for a self portrait painting. So you could only see the shoulders. What was the first thing he recommended me? A set of green pyjamas with daisies from the store I bought them from. The same exact one. And you could only see the vibrant green and a couple of daisies in the photo. Sometimes it works too well.

Not liking that influencers get invited to fashion week is silly. Young people these days look up to social media stars. Do people complain about actors/singers going because they aren't models? That's as dumb as being mad at people making sponsored content but then don't say anything about actors in commercials 🙄

Just because it’s behind a keyboard doesn’t mean it’s impolite and controlling behavior. The more people realize that and choose kindness, the better. Also on the dressing your age thing… I dunno. I guess I have a weird perspective cause I’m finding myself enjoying my different stages. Like cardigans used to be my jam and I felt like a blazer looked out of place on me… like a little kid trying on my mom’s clothes. Now I’m loving being in my late 30s and rocking blazers. And when I’m in my 50s and 60s I’m TOTALLY gonna be rocking monochromatic, loose, breezy sets with mad accessories. I feel like it’s kind of nice to have those things to look forward to and growing into them. Thanks for all the insight and effort you put into these videos - always enjoy when you post. as someone extremely picky with sneakers I’d recommend the onitsuka tiger mexicos (granted they’re also quite trendy) for an everyday non-chunky/super stylized sneaker! They are super comfy inside and versatile and come in statement colours and classic ones too :)

My auntie does colour analysis (as well as other things to do with fashion, she’s very passionate about it) and is incredibly thorough! Obviously she wants the most accurate and best result for her clients, so she makes sure every detail is looked at (she even has a book about finding the right colours for you etc). I feel like sometimes ppl just need to go into appointments like that with an open mind. At the end of the day they’re just the BEST colours that suit you and it doesn’t mean you can’t wear a certain colour that isn’t in your wheel. Idkkk I’m all for it but I might be biast lmao

it's great for people who feel lost when choosing clothes or are looking for guidelines to make their shopping and styling easier, like, if you have a fav color you love and wear no matter what then it probably won't do much for you bc you already have an idea of what you want, but if you're somebody that can never decide what to get having those "those colors are always a good choice for you" guidelines can be so helpful and save a lot of time and mental energy Not everyone wants to spend their energy on clothes shopping or creating a unique style and those people love using those guides to basically save themselve the hassle or anxiety that comes with decision making and have the feeling that they look good

Totally agree on skinny jeans! I still wear them ocassionally, depending on my outfit and I think they're really cute. People shaming others for not following trends are truly obnoxious. I love wearing vs styling videos, though. They are good inspo for creative ideas and I truly think I look better when I style my clothes. But I get the other side. I can never do it as good as in the tiktoks as well. You just have to have so many accessories and clothing items to be able to re-create one of those vids. Plus, sometimes I just want to throw something quick on, without thinking about matching accessories. And that can still look really good. Regarding colour analysis, I see how it can be helpful. I especially agree with your point about makeup. But with clothing it seems overly restrictive. Colours are meant to be part of your self-expression. Being limited to a certain palette that suits you puts you in a box and limits your personal style and individuality. I've seen so many people disappointed that their favourite colours are deemed unflattering on them by professionals and I've always felt kind of bad for them. And I don't think the whole idea is sustainable either. I've seen people ditching their entire wardrobes and buying whole new ones based on the colour analysis. So at the end of the day it only leads to more consumerism. On capsule wardrobes lacking creativity, also agree. I see how practical they can be. And opposed to colour analysis, I think they actudlly do help with sustainability. But again, I personally find them limiting and I don't think fashion should be that. For me fashion is all about self-expression and experimenting. So capsule wardrobes are definitely not for me.

SNEAKER QUESTION: okay this is my honest take but if you are a doc girl like me, go with a cute hiking boot!! I think it's versatile, kinda edgy, and like not as boring as a sneaker. I just had to chunk my old boots but I loved them and got so many compliments and you can get some that have way more ankle support. im big on hiking too so it was awesome.

I find it insane that jeans have trends. No-one ever says the A-line skirt is in or out. It's flattering, period. It's hard to find the style of jeans that flatter one's body and once you find that style, I say wear it. Stock up on them when they are in fashion and wear them regardless of what's in fashion. There are other parts of the outfit that can be updated.

my sneakers recommendations (I don't own any of these so can't speak of their comfortability though): Reebok Club C 85 (the vintage ones are my favourite bc they are like off-white) and Reebok Club C Revenge, Puma Slipstreams, Adidas Forum Low (though for some reason I only like them in some colours), Asics EX-89

Reebok club C 85 are really comfy but are made for narrow feet. I went true size but are quite tight on my toes, so I recommend going half a size up!

Sneakers: I’ve been a “collector” of Converse since I saw the first Back to the Future movie in the theaters. Yeah, I’m “that” old.

I loved hearing you mention specific creators that had made videos on topics relating to the opinions that you were talking about. Regarding the clothes vs outfit (or whatever it was called), Laini was the only creator that I had seen that content from so when you brought it up, I was thinking that it wasn’t that bad. I did enjoy hearing you call out the one source I’d watched as being more useful than most of the content out there. Nice video. Also, calling not telling people the brand of an item ‘gatekeeping’ is wild. I’m much more used to it’s use in regards to people actively condescending to others in the community or actively trying to block others from participating in said community.

So, it was me talking about wearing vs styling, and I couldn't fully develop my idea for obvious reasons. Not only the crazy amount of accessories, but also the over layering and changing the outfit's silluette and the way some of them are paired. It's not only uncomfortable, takes too much time, doesn't work in most climates, but also doesn't stay in the right way if you body is moving for a long time

only thing I miss about skinny jeans being in style was that weird period around 2011/2012 where every single place had skinny jeans in a full RAINBOW of colors and patterns. I wish I could find colorful bootcut jeans that easily.

My unpopular opinion is that there needs to be more variety in what is “acceptable “ for guys to wear without being called “gay” or “feminine “. I want to be able to wear that new fuzzy Bambi sweater from forever 21 and some jeans with fall leaves or something on the legs with some ankle boots and not get a side eye, you know? And that’s not even that “feminine “, it’s neutral colors and designs. Also, my Deep South brain nearly short circuited at your “ya’ll”. Y’all is “you all” contracted, hence “y’all”.

Editing Alexa is very glam! Love it when you’re a bit salty, especially about the brand identifying stuff at the end. It’s a whole topic about not being compulsive about owning the EXACT thing, but finding an affordable thrifted dupe to play with the style as you say. Otherwise I find people like that are always moving on to the NEXT brand name item, so it’s a vortex of searching, overspending and feeling deflated again and looking for the next magical brand item that will supposedly give you a sense of security and identity. An expensive and frustrating pastime.

This Thursday I am definitely buying about 6 Hello kitty printed tops for myself to wear. Hence, I am 45, and I still love HK since I was 7. I can imagine the eye roll coming from my family but....my rule always been dress for YOURSELF.

I think capsule wardrobes are more so part of the minimalist movement. Like I think to have the "ideal" capsule wardrobe, you have to be someone who embraces minimalism as a lifestyle and not just minimalism as a style trend. I don't think they're for everyone, definitely not me for me lol

I still stand by my Air Force ones! I have like 5 pairs and wear them weekly lol I can see you rocking the AF1 Shadow, I have a pastel pair and I feel like that would suit your look / body / style really well- or maybe reeboks but I can’t speak to the comfort of those cuz I don’t own them! the low air forces are super comfy

Lots of good points! A lot of fashion comes down to balance and moderation for most people, ultimately. As for the “say the brand” final one, for people who post thrifted clothes hauls and fashion videos, I do think it’s better for the poster to state the brands because as you said, it’s not like some horde of people can snatch up that exact item from a regular store. People just want to know brands so they can do the work of searching for it because it seems like their vibe and thrifting is hard and a search term can be a huge help 😂! No one should attack people for not including that info, that’s absurd! BUT the more popular posters like you have followers for a reason. So if people don’t want to take a second to read a tag on a garment in a video, fine, but then they can’t be surprised if they don’t get followers 🤷‍♀️. My hot take, at least 😂!

I totally get the aversion to the skinny jeans, tbh - they'd just been so ubiquitous for so many years (I almost thought they were a classic at some point and then, bam, they went away). I'd also been tired of wearing them for the sheer amount of effort it takes to squeeze your legs into them. My own unpopular opinion is that I'm not interested in color analysis. I wasn't back when it first was popular and I'm not now that they've made it more complicated. I get that it works, but I'm just not gonna base my entire wardrobe on a very specific set of colors. Like, if a particular color makes me look pale, I wear a little bit more make-up, problem solved. If you're looking for an alternative to the Sambas, how about Stan Smiths? They're not as hyped as they used to be and they're quite slim. like the Sambas, and go with most outfits. I also like supergas, they're a classic and have the bonus of not being too hot in the summer. (Also, they go well with the current quiet luxury trend ofc). Edit: My thought is you should definitely go to fashion week!!

I love skinny jeans, mom jeans, cargo pants, wide leg pants, chinos, bootcut jeans, but I hate the flared leg jeans/pants. I hated them when I was a teen and still hate them. They also make me walk funny. About seasonal color analysis: To me it was very helpful to get my colors done. I had started hating wearing color because I didn't like any of them on me. But it turned out I just wore the wrong kinds of colors ever since I was 17. And now wearing color really is fun again. I don't stick to it 100%, but it actually added a huge amount of fun to getting dressed and styling clothes for me again. Gatekeeping: I barely remember where I got clothes from especially not after having them for many years. Also: I get a lot of my clothes from friends and family because they bought it and hated it on themselves or it was the wrong size and they didn't realize it for too long and couldn't return it anymore. I never know where these are from. When I like them, I'll happily take them without asking. I also make my own clothes a lot, from patterns I made myself too, so no chance to buy anything to re-create them. If I would ask anyone where they got something from and wouldn't receive an answer I would just be like "oh well, I'll find something similar or make it myself", and be chill about it. It's not life-threatening to not know where someone got their pants from. It's just a few pieces of fabric that've been sewn together... we shouldn't be so dramatic about it.

I just got back from a 3-month-long internship abroad and I tried so hard to find colorful capsule wardrobes and it was so hard. I purchased some fun, colorful pieces to go with basics I already had, and I think I found a happy medium.

Yes, its hard. I also think that capsule wardrobes are good for when you can't have your full wardrobe and have to decide very well what you will bring - i also did a 3 month internship abroad and didn't plan so well, i get the struggle

CaroleJackson revolutionized the fashion industry decades ago when she published Color Me Beautiful. Her take on color analysis was presented as seasonal and I discovered I was a winter. There’s probably updated books on the subject and it will be less than a consult.

@alexasunshine83 I believe people should wear what they like what makes them feel their best, regardless of age size etc. I did the color analysis when it first came out in the 80s with my mom. Again I wear whatever colors I want to BUT the cosmetic part of it was a big yes for me. Great video as usual, thank you!

18:21 Air Max 1s, and forum 1s, and honestly any kind of Air Jordan 1a or Air forces. All of these kind of have a pretty similar silhouette but they're all so comfortable, for the most part they have pretty wild toe boxes so they're not squishing your toes, and they come in so many different kinds of colors and textures.

I dont think jeans should be 'in fashion' or not but rather wear the style that suits your body type the best. Low rise do look better on certain body shapes than others plus they're not the most comfortable.

I super recommend salomon xt-6s. I always get compliments on them! And they have a bit of a unique sporty look to them that I love pairing with more feminine looks!

As someone who generally dislikes sneakers and loves Docs, I would like to recommend Buffalo sneakers :) They are the only type of sneakers that I love.
