Your Eldrazi Deck Sucks - Let's Fix It! AZLASK THE SWELLING SCOURGE

Ойындар

Azlask the Swelling Scourge is a new commander from Modern Horizons 3, with some impressive capabilities in 5 color, ahem 6 MANA, decks.
I went through many different build paths before I finalized this version of the deck list, with additional help from my friend Elijah. Thanks to Elijah for helping get a quality product out on time!

    I think you missed the best reason to have remand in the deck. Counter your own eldrazi with on cast effects to return it to your hard, draw a card and get to cast the good spell again next turn or the same turn if you have the mana.

    Remand might operate better in the 99 of the precons face commander that has the copy ability but i run both in the same deck anyways so it could come up especially if you build the deck to have a decent amount of tutor effects to get him out consistently, there's just usually better, cheaper options to use tutors on for creatures, like token generators if you just can't seem to draw into one naturally

    If you’re running wtb draw effects like kindred discovery with displacer and one of the cards that generates spawns to allow it to infinite you can dig for flesh raker and finish the opponents.

    I took out my shocks and put in slow lands. Only need 2 or more lands for them to come in untapped. It's perfect. Also, Eldrazi Displacer is a MVP card in my decks that run it. It used to be the closer card in my old blink burn modern deck too.

    Thanks for sharing! This deck seems light on single target removal - is that a design decision to go wide or how your pod plays?

    I think Wight of the Reliquary is one of the most underrated cards in MH3. Pick it up while it's cheap folks! Maybe it'll never be a huge card but I'll be shocked if the value of this card does not increase over the next 6-12 months.

    Considering there a worse version called knight of the reliquary that costs more does the same thing except it’s tap ability requires you to sac a land to find a land I believe you

    Can you do the same with Ulalek? I feel like everyone is too focused on running all the titans instead of optimizing it.

    Might not be optimal but I have enjoyed echos of eternity with ulalek and desolation twin. Like 4/7 (depending if you have copied echoes) 10/10's for 12 mana was fun.

    The combos are a Center point of my pod deck.. ich opted to play the twins for token doubling and yarok for etb doubling.. i can both tutor with the pod card and are creatures for maskwood Nexus or the Backup commander from the sliver precon (also tutorable) Flashraker and flyerdrone are binger for instand wins with the infinite loops

    I've noticed I need colors more than colorless in my current build and have been struggling with how to make them sacrifice off for color

  • @Grebolexa

    @Grebolexa

    Ай бұрын

    You could use phyrexian altar if you want a sacrifice outlet that makes money but you could use a mana filtering effect or effects that make your creatures tap for mana such as elven chorus or cryptolith rights

    @Grebolexa the tap stuff tho I have to wait due to lack of haste. I'm using phyrexian alter, pitiless plunderer, and chromatic orrery.

  • @Grebolexa

    @Grebolexa

    @@lordreign9163 yeah it’s gonna be very hard to make mana without tapping stuff but if haste is the only issue you could use haste enabling effects. I’m sure there’s plenty of ways to give tokens haste for cheap but if you don’t want to rely on that you could use effects that tap creatures as a cost. I can’t think of any rn but I’m sure you can find something that has the text “tap X creatures you control, make X mana”. If something tells you to tap a creature it doesn’t matter if it has haste or not.

    Maybe for the lands if you don't like triomes or more expensive lands. There's a crap ton of old zendikar lands that tap for colorless or all colors with usually a condition or its to filter colorless. I'm playtesting it atm with mine and I'm having mixed success. Tempt with discovery with tron lands or the new land that's all types to turn them on if only a few opps take the bait. Expedition map works wonders too.

    does your infinite combo really work? eldrazi displacer needs colorless mana and spawns give generic mana.

    "Yes, Eldrazi Spawn creature tokens in Magic: The Gathering can be sacrificed to add one colorless mana." I pulled that from the judge forum. The new spawns printed with MH3 make colorless mana which does work with the displacer.

    I am surprised no one has bothered to add Abstruse Archaic to double Azlask's anthem effect Expensive mana base, me: I don't own any dual lands but I sure have a lot of proxies of dual lands. I drew up some Eldrazi dual lands for Azlask I added Craterhoof and Moonshaker to the deck so I can jsut Blitzkrieg without Azlask sometimes, the deck really feels like it just wants to be a horde/anthem commander deck ;p

    I don't agree with you on several takes (but those are more of style of the deck), but specially with Rhystic Study, don't get me wrong, of course it's an excellent card, but I've seen many players practically add it just because it's expensive (money wise), and that's related to the status of the card, not its real consistency in every deck. Rhystic Study is a card that doesn't fit in every deck because the functionality it's very specific, while in a control deck or one with reactive or very large spells, keeps your hand full or gives you time for your opponents to play at the same pace as you, allowing you to maintain a favorable 'tempo' for your game; in a deck where your strategy (either by ramp or reduced mana costs) allows you to empty your hand very quickly, the truth is that Rhystic Study not only doesn't help you (unless you play at a table with players who are definitely bad at playing Magic), because everyone will realize you need the cards, you've already emptied your hand, you have no resources left, so I just have to pay 1 and that's it. Yes, you can say that this is the point of other cards in this category, but actually is quite different. You don't play 36-34 lands to have 30+ lands on the field, you play them for consistency, so it's more likely that you'll draw the lands you need to play, the same with the repetition of cards in this section, having 8 card sluts for drawing is for consistency and that's where the problem with Rhystic comes in. If I draw Rhystic and then exhaust my hand, I'm basically waiting for another card to be drawn that will allow me to regain my "tempo" in the game or slow down the other players, and in that case, I'm the one who lost pace, the card draw section for this type of deck should be to not miss the rhythm, not catch it up. And again, even if you're thinking that you need to recover the rhythm of the game, Rhystic is a card that you're depending on others to do it, that goes to my basic point of this disagreement. Rhystic Study depends on my opponents, that they are kind enough or bad players not to pay the tax and allow me to recover (there are very specific or situational cases where it may not be due to bad players, but in general terms, it's either because there's already a new threat in the game or because the player who didn't pay the taxes is about to win, and even then, you might draw a counterspell, you're playing blue after all, so it's simply an excuse for being impatient or not being very good at making decisions, i.e., being a good player, not to pay Rhystic seeing a player who's out of hand). Again, Rhystic is an amazing card for a different kind of deck, but in this case in this type of deck, looking at your list, wouldn't be more consistent (unless your opponents don't understand this), in fact, it would be the opposite. That's my honest opinion, regards.

    I dont think parallel lives and procession work with Brood Monitor and Emrakrul's Hatcher, because they dont "create" the tokens, instead, they "put" the tokens on the battlefield.
