Your Bees Will Swarm If You Don't Do THIS!

Found Queen Cells? Do THIS!
Stop My Bees Swarming - How to Make an Artificial Swarm - Splitting Bees with Swarm Cells
Title: How to Complete an Artificial Swarm: A Step-by-Step Guide
Description:
If you're a beekeeper, you know how important it is to keep your colony healthy and thriving. One way to do this is by completing an artificial swarm, which helps prevent overcrowding and promotes new queen production. In this video, we'll show you step-by-step how to complete an artificial swarm.
Step 1: Identify the Queen
The first step in completing an artificial swarm is to identify the queen. You'll need to locate her and mark her with a queen marking pen to ensure that you don't accidentally transfer her to the new colony.
Step 2: Prepare the New Hive
Next, you'll need to prepare the new hive that will house the new colony. Make sure it has a bottom board, one or two brood boxes, and a lid. You'll also need to add frames with foundation or drawn comb to the new hive.
Step 3: Move the Old Hive
Now it's time to move the old hive to a new location at least three feet away from the original location. This will help prevent the old colony from returning to its original location and will give the new colony a chance to establish itself.
Step 4: Shake the Bees
With the old hive moved, it's time to shake the bees into the new hive. Take one or two frames with brood and shake the bees off into the new hive. Then, shake the remaining bees from the old hive into the new hive. Make sure you do this at least 10 feet away from the old hive to prevent the bees from returning.
Step 5: Add More Frames
Once the bees are in the new hive, add more frames to fill up the hive. This will give the bees plenty of space to grow and produce honey.
Step 6: Add the Queen
Now it's time to add the queen to the new hive. Simply take the frame with the marked queen and place it in the new hive. The bees will recognize her scent and begin caring for her.
Step 7: Monitor the New Colony
Finally, it's important to monitor the new colony for several weeks to ensure that they are thriving. Check for signs of queen production and make sure they have plenty of food and water.
Completing an artificial swarm can seem daunting at first, but with these simple steps, you'll be able to successfully create a new colony and keep your bees healthy and thriving. Happy beekeeping!

Hi Lawrence, great your new queen was successfully mated I don’t know how it’s been in your part of the country but I’ve had a stinker of a season especially early on in the year getting virgin queens mated with the bad weather we had in May, I think I killed maybe 8 duds the bees killed another 6 which I found on there landing boards and 6 of the mated queens I had bought 4 of them where superseded it has been a strange season for sure. Wow mate that colony of yours was massive even when you did your split you ended up with 2 big hives yes your method of splitting hives is the same procedure as I do my own. Great vlog mate thx for taking us along with you at your apiary.

Great video and wow what an amazing hive, just wondered what you would have done if you had have found queen cells in with the original queen after you had split? Would you get away with just knocking them down? Keep up the good work 👏 ab thanks for another great video

Good point. I'd definitely just knock them down and take the risk that the urge to swarm will subside very quickly with reduced numbers

How many colonies do you have? Is it time efficient? We have 340 colonies, we remove swarm cells every 6 days for them. Do you think I should do this instead next year?

Sometimes swarms leave with virgins and land in a previously established nest with drawn comb. Its a controlled split as a method of swarm prevention
