Younger Toguro - One of Early Anime's Best Villains (Yu Yu Hakusho)

Obviously none of this is my work. I wanted to add a discussion portion, but this video is long enough. Some of my favorite scenes for the intense and complex character, younger Toguro, from the 90's anime Yu Yu Hakusho. Clips are from episodes 23-65. Sorry for occasional low quality.
EDIT: For those who mention that it is not "early anime" in terms of year, that depends only on your criterion. While it's true that anime began many decades before YYH, it has increased in quantity over the years. The median-value year is some time in the early-mid 2000's, as in, 50% of anime were released before that time, and 50% came out after. In that YYH is a solid decade before this median-value year, it is comparatively older than the supermajority of existing anime.

Guy makes an awesome compilation of the best scenes of Toguro, call it "Early Anime's". 80% of the comments: "eARly???LOL" Lol I feel so bad for you OP. This comment section is the epitomy of the social media nowadays, where the minority are the awesome people who will indulge in good analysis/comments and serious topics and you feel the connection with them, the other is just fuckers wanting to mock someone at the slightest sign of error and ignore everything else, because they only care about making themselves look better while mocking someone.

"Lol" .............................................................................................................................lol..............The early to mid 2000s with anime like Yu Yu Hakusho were special times. I wasn't around during the 2010s and still barely on the scene now during the mid-2020s. People say Cowboy Bebop has the best dub but I think I like YYH as well....probably YYH and the Dragonball series more.

“eARly???LOL” I would think that implied “Tugoro best in ONLY EARLY?” As in Tugoro wasn’t just a king of anime in early anime, but a king forever! Never forget the man who helped make Anime what it is today, and still being talked about decades later ❤

lots of people don't give his character the credit it deserves, people see him as just the heavy that needs to be defeated by gaining more physical strength, but he is so much more complex than that, the older i get the more i understand him, not that i agree with his choices cause he made all the wrong ones, but i mean just look at what people will do these days to try and stay young and keep their relevance I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities to say many people would be willing to sacrifice things they love in their life for the same opportunities, even though he eventually came to the right conclusion he refused to be persuaded, he needed to find someone that was the exact opposite of his ideology that could prove him wrong, there is so much to him it's amazing character writing

He lost all of his students in a demon attack, and in trying to find atonement he wished to become a demon himself. Toguro sought out to end his journey his own way. He wanted to die but for his own reasons. In the end, he got what he wanted. We got the chance to understand Toguro as a person. Toguro is a remarkable character.

Killed by Toguro. Kind old lady on the way to school everyday? Killed by Toguro. Mailman? Killed by Toguro. Not showing up was NEVER an option for Yusuke....at least in Yusuke's own mind. Toguro didn't really have a habit of killing the innocent, so I wonder now if he would have really done it...

My favorite villain from the whole Yu Yu Hakusho series, Younger Toguro had an intimidating presence with his physical body structure and his specific muscular strength increase percentages of full power that he displayed during the first two seasons. Toguro debuted late in season one and was the main antagonist along with his entire team during the Dark Tournament saga ; I enjoyed the Toguro's personal background story and his relationship with Genkai as both had a shared history of being former fighting teammates. The Dark Tournament saga was incredible along with team Toguro and Toguro's final battle with Yusuke at the end of the tournament was amazing & is my personal favorite fight in the entire YYH series and one of my all time favorite anime fights of any anime series.

The live action crunched so much into so few episodes it lost so much significance. Toguro was this terrifying, insurmountable monster in the anime. In the show somehow yusuke powered up enough to win in 6 episodes. Genkais death was also a lot less impactful because we hardly got to know her before she got killed. I need to rewatch this soon. I hear there is a remake coming out next year. If they nail it it will be amazing. I hope they get the original English cast.

lots of people don't give his character the credit it deserves, people see him as just the heavy that needs to be defeated by gaining more physical strength, but he is so much more complex than that, the older i get the more i understand him, not that i agree with his choices cause he made all the wrong ones, but i mean just look at what people will do these days to try and stay young and keep their relevance I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities to say many people would be willing to sacrifice things they love in their life for the same opportunities, even though he eventually came to the right conclusion he refused to be persuaded, he needed to find someone that was the exact opposite of his ideology that could prove him wrong, there is so much to him it's amazing character writing

This is one of the many English dubbed anime that mistranslates "妖怪" as "demon" when in reality only the Japanese word "魔" means demon with all the connotations that English speakers attach to the word. At least in Dragon Ball Z, Funimation translated "鬼" as "ogre" instead of "demon" like many other localizers do.
