I'm Laura! I'm 27. Five years ago, I was hit by a drunk driver. I had a stroke. I have aphasia.
My friends don't know how to talk to me. Here are some tips.

Laura! You are an inspiration! My mother has lived with very severe aphasia for 13+ years and she gets better all the time. Aphasia is a very hard condition to live with and you are an inspiration to people with aphasia (and their families) I wish you the best for a continued recovery! And I hope that you make more videos!

Great video Laura. I've been through this because of a Traumatic Brain Injury. It is so frustrating when people talk over you as if you're not there, isn't it? Feel free to connect with me. It took me a few years to get through it, and now it only affects me when I'm tired. Keep making the videos. :)

Greetings from Sweden! My dad had a stroke a few years ago and nowadays speaks barely at all. He avoids talking because he has difficulty making himself understood. I think it's most because people do not know how to talk to him. Ultimately, this means that he isolates himself more and more. However, I can talk to him and I do exactly as you say! :) Thanks for a perfect instruction video! God Jul och Gott Nytt År! (Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!)

This is great! I think this works equally well for any serious speech impediment, I've had Parkinson's Disease for 18+ years, and it affects my speech regularly. I've done the "no, no, yes, no, yes" routine quite a few times, people's confused reactions always make me smile. Try just answering "yes" or "no" to multiple choice questions, works quite well too! Take care!

Laura, enjoyed the humor you added to your video. I wanted to mention that the army is looking into BDNF. Brain derived Neurotrophic factor in a refined form for brain injuries. It causes brain neuron regeneration. That is, it helps speed up nerve regrowth. A lady doctor' has mentioned it is also in organic or pure virgin coconut oil in enough quantity to work. A right off the shelf product. A friend had a stroke last fall. Takes it. Doing much better. And, Walking. Jogging. Exercise. All cause the release of stem cells. And stem cells, without going into it,, can turn into any cell in the body as I understand it. She exercised for around half hour sessions. Apologies for the book cover image it puts by my comments. That's the way it tags me. Remove as you wish. I've had strokes before. Keep you in my prayers. Hope this helps you or someone.
