This is because Authoritarian solutions to parenting don't resolve rebellious actions and attitudes. They teach the Child they have to hide them instead. Art is imitating reality here, especially with the aspect of emotional neglect.

She just snuck out of the house and smoked a little, it's not like she hurt anyone, so she may not see what she did as wrong. Also you do know that teenagers are pretty much known for doing things like this, it's not just like Missy is an asshole. She didn't do some horrible thing, she did something that is fairly common for teenagers and relatively harmless. You talk about it like she killed someone.

Sheldon did the right thing, it was the parents that were harsh and didn't even try to understand where Missy was coming from...hell they should've done that when Missy ran away but instead, their solution is to ground her again, and again...Maybe Sheldon could've tailed them and seen what was going on...tbh that would've been interesting if he did that because I genuinely want to know what they were doing...

She stole a truck. Then she snuck out to drink and smoke. This isn't strict. Missy is just a hypocrite. She's mad everyone ignores her but freaks out even more when they get mad. A kid acts out and causes problems, so you just cave and let them do whatever they want? Sure life is hard for lot of people, it feels unfair all the time. People who screw up don't get to just pretend it never happened though. Missy wants to get treated like an adult, well she hasn't made an adult decision yet.

You don't know what it's like to be a teenage girl, it's extremely difficult, biologically and emotionally. Her parents can see she is going through a, difficult time, but can't be bothered to sit down and talk to her to find out why she is having it so hard, and how any loving parent can help-they give her no support just constantly ground and punish her.

@kyle ellis she did all of those things out of rebellion and because they do not give her nor Georgie the attention they give Sheldon. Maybe if they gave them more attention, they'd not of done some of the things they did. They didn't allow R movies, dances, her to shave her legs, and lots of other little things. They didn't give her any freedom. She couldn't even wear makeup. If you are too strict with a girl she will become sneaky.

Sheldon has acted in a reasonable and mature manner in order to inform his parents of the activities of their of Missy which are out of hand and dangerous. Sheldon is even willing to risk his trip to Germany in order to got Missy the aid that she so clearly needs.

And Mary does the best she can not like her kids make it easy for her. Anytime she tries to be involved and her kids life they push her away specially Missy and Georgie.

So, Sheldon was in the right to worry about Missy and tell a trusted adult, but Missy is a lonely and hurt 13 year old. Of COURSE she’s not going to see it from a rational adult’s point of view. Many of us often forget what it was like to be 13: your body is changing, you’re able to understand more about the world around you but not DO anything about it, you feel like you can handle things (even if you actually cannot)…and that’s not even counting any incidents going on at school or home, such as bullying or divorce. In Missy’s case, she saw her brother become a teenage dad and her family excluded from the church community as a result (and given that Mary dedicated herself to the church for Missy’s sake, I wouldn’t be surprised if that story has been in Missy’s mind around or since the exclusion). Plus, she’s a girl in rural east Texas, and surrounded by conservative adults - you can imagine what mentors at school and church might have been telling her about her existence as a girl/young woman. Obviously, smoking and sneaking around town at night is PRETTY dangerous, but once again, Missy’s just a kid trying to find something that’ll make her feel in control of her life. [Spoilers for E22 - after the tornado it’s obvious that Missy truly loves her family and that she was just lashing out to feel in control of something. My guess is that she will try to be better even while sneaking out, but after George dies she will spiral again because TBBT tells us that Mary was a mess and Georgie had to take care of them both]

during this series ive felt really bad for missy and understood where she was coming from but for once she was actually really cruel to sheldon here, he may be a pain but he genuinely cared and was worried and he tried to keep it a secret but couldnt. sheldon may not be the best person out there but he does care in his own way and this has got to have hurt and if this kind of rift continues in the story itll explain alot about sheldon from the big bang theory

The only problem is, as Mary has admitted, Mary isn't a fun mum. If only Brenda was Missy's mum. Both Brenda and Missy like dancing for example. Mary doesn't allow dancing or at least her Baptist religion doesn't allow it. I can imagine if Brenda was also George's wife how much better it would be for George AND Missy. Now we can only imagine what kind of mum Mary would be if she wasn't religious. Mary was a bit of a rebel before she made that promise to God for Missy to be born safe.

I imagine she is probably angry and trying to get attention because Sheldon always gets what he wants and no one seems to care about Missy. He got to fly across the world to Germany whilst she was confined to the house - more specifically probably her room which would seem unfair to her.

I get why Sheldon told his parents about Missy’s smoking habits, he was worried about her safety and well-being. Missy never realized that it only takes a few cigarettes to start and addiction that destroys your health permanently. Also her friend is a super bad influence and is incredibly rude to Pastor Jeff

I think both parent should have stayed home. Most of these study abroad things have families that host kids. A summer where its just Missy and her parent's and no Sheldon. She needs that. But then again Missy and George are pretty tight.

Georgie is the most sane person in the show

Missy is giving her parents a lot of pain in the head and drama while Sheldon did not just get to cut the expenses for his education because he skipped middle school, George also got to experienced being specially treated before in Medford HighSchool because their school cant afford to loose his son Sheldon. They also recived A free trip to California courtesy of East Texas Tech and an oilers ticket from a generous donor of Sheldon's university ...and now a trip to Germany paid by generous donor...these are just the perks that George and Mary received because they're the parents of Sheldon.. Its not George and Mary's fault if Sheldon matters .

But if you have a child who constantly causes you issues and another that helps you see/do things you would never do, and help with taxes and offer finacial support, guess what? You will not love them differently, but you will sure like one better than te other! Should we talk about the fact that Missy seemed to still need her mother's support as an adult?

@@potocatepetl but the problem for missy is she just feels ignored and doesn’t care anymore. The attention of her parents is either going to be on Sheldon because of his smarts or Georgie because of the baby. Even Meemaw is busy now. I’m not saying her or anyone’s actions are right and wrong but in a lot of cases the main reasons people act out is to get attention either by getting in trouble or finding people to get in trouble with.

​@@PastorBrian777 ​ the way I see it Missy doesn't really like attention, what she wants is independence from the restrictions her parents are setting. A typical teenager breaking free from the authority of the house. Sheldon is just a scapegoat. It's easier for Missy to blame her parents playing favoritism rather than accepting the fact that she's currently choosing to be a dumb teen-ager which is a typical thing at her age. Just cut the drama of being a neglected child coz I did watched the show from season 1 ,George and Mary are trying their best to be good parents, they're not perfect but they're good parents .

@@PastorBrian777 That can be, of course, but life has its ups and downs. She was also absurd in the episode where she stole the car. Everyone was having a tough time there, more so than her and no one had time for her gossiping. And in the big scheme of things, the person she hurts most, particularly in the long run, it's herself. That is what some teenagers don't get. You might annoy your parents, but in real life in such a situation many kids (especially if they ran more than once) spend time in jail, lose good friends, get in the wrong circles and from there they spiral down. And all that because they never ask themselves: who do I hurt by doing X? What are the short-time consequences and what are the long-term consequences? I know with 13 is a lot to ask, but I can assure you 80% of the parents I know whould have not accepted such behaviour in their house.

This made me hate Missy even more. Such a rebelled kid, the actress is so good tho!

It’s pretty common though I mean she was the same age as Sheldon but their parents clearly favored him, especially their mom. She essentially never gets a word in when it involves Sheldon, they don’t try to understand why she does what she does, it doesn’t surprise me that this is the result

Missy is not an inch closer to Penny. Penny has been an ideal sister to Sheldon A friend is a family you create for yourself and Sheldon did have a great taste...

Ngl I really hated that she told Sheldon that she hates him for genuinely being scared that she was sneaking out and smoking. He genuinely doesn’t have real friends bc he doesn’t understand emotions or other ppl. He just focuses on science bc he feels useful and special doing it. However no one really likes him in the series except for his mom. Ik missy is being neglected but that’s not Sheldon’s fault.

What consequences ...??? The girl is so just dumb for thinking that way ... this girl's drama stuff caused the Cooper's family's greatest tragedy,. One day ,this girl just went home crying because of a boy problem, and messed everything up. Fought with her brother, yelled at her Dad , restricted her brother from entering their shared bed room , torn her brother's beloved professor proton picture because he still entered their room,, a sibling fight that turned into their parents fight that led for their Dad going into a bar where he met BELINDA SPARKS who invited him to her place for something intimate... Nothing wrong about letting your pain out but making a big fuss about it with yelling the people around ... That girl is really the Drama Queen of the family .😂😂w

@@drewsandler3229 If Sheldon has simply done as his father instructed and not gone into the bedroom, but instead gave Missy space, the whole poster incident would not have happened. When she was putting away her childhood toys and taking down her own posters, he tried to stop her from doing that. He should have left her alone.

I'm impressed that if Sheldon goes to Germany and still knows exactly how many times she snuck out.
