He was trying to be considerate of a young child's feelings. Sheldon never took the hint so he had to finally just tell him. And the janitor should have gotten into trouble for allowing a student in the professor's office.

Young Sheldon is more abnoxious than adult Sheldon.

@@mauertal My view of the show is that The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon are really the story of Dr. Sheldon Cooper -from his childhood to receiving his Nobel Prize. It could be that the Sheldon the narrator is an old man looking back, now with more fondness for his parents now that he is one himself. The comments about his mom beating him with the bible could have just been metaphorical, as in she tried to beat the bible into him. As to his dad? Well, now that he is looking back, he wants to remember the good stuff. Remember, we don't know how old Sheldon the Narrator is when he is looking back.

Sheldon has become the least interesting character on this show.
