Young's Modulus Experiment Analysis
Analysis of the data obtained from the experiment to determine the Young's Modulus of a metal wire using a travelling microscope. Data is inputted into a table, stress and strain are calculated and a stress-strain graph is plotted. The graph is then analysed to determine the Young's Modulus of the metal from the gradient.

Thanks, super helpful!
I have my stress/strain curve plotted in units of stress (psi) and strain (in/in). Would i use the same trendline method to get young's modulus? Would I do 1 divided by gradient or I don't need division? thank you

Follow the same method and the Young’s Modulus value will come out in psi also (since strain doesn’t have units E inherits strain’s units).
I have specimen of 75 mm dia and 150 mm length. On performing bending strength analysis i have load and deflection values pls help me out to calculate stress, strain, and youngs modulus

Can you help me with the hypothesis

Stress, σ = F/A. F is the load applied. A is cross sectional area. For a wire A = πD²/4. Strain, ε = x/L where x is extension and L is original length. E = σ/ε
Where is the experiment? Why is the result so different from "book value"? Explanation of non_linearity?

Hi. Video 1 has the experiment itself: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qnWH1buDn5bgorA.html (link in description also). I haven’t yet made a video covering the evaluation of this result. A close look at the data points shows a convincing curve which suggests that the extension may have exceeded the elastic limit and consequently impacted the result.
Is the metal wire copper?

Yes it is
How do you obtain the extension?

Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Extension = new length - original length.
