Enjoy this new video, featuring a young #rabbit family!
The female digs a nesting burrow where the kittens (is what they're called) are born. She only visits the young once a day for about 5 to 10 minutes to feed them. The female, also called doe, can have up to 8 litters of kittens a year!
And she keeps them safely tucked away in the nesting burrow until they are old enough to join the other rabbits. Here they're relatively safe for predators such as foxes and birds of prey that target (young) rabbits.

Het vrouwtje graaft een nestkamer waar de jongen geboren worden. Ze komt slechts één keer per dag langs om de jongen 5 à 10 minuten te laten zogen. Het vrouwtje kan tot wel 8 worpen per jaar krijgen!
En ze houdt ze dus veilig verstopt in de ondergrondse nestkamer tot ze oud genoeg zijn om bij de groep te gaan. Ondergronds zijn ze relatief veilig voor roofdieren, zoals vos en roofvogels, die (jonge) konijnen bejagen.

She's so beautiful and attentive, just like a human mother. And the babies go into a milk feeding frenzy. So sweet. People seem to underestimate rabbits and rabbit intelligence. I had a rescued bunny who was litter box trained and had a ton of personality to boot. Great to be able to see them in their natural environment!

Ugh, just like a human mother?! Why do we always compare animals to humans, as if though they cannot be worthy of respect in their own right? You do know that animal mothers came before homo sapien mothers, right? The self-centered perspective of my fellow humans aggravates me.

Mamma buns so protective of her babes, feeding time and then back to laying low. Such a beautiful instinct taking care of her young. More love and care then some humans have.

This is so amazing!
Oh my goodness!!!! I have never before seen a mother bunny close in the opening like that. I didn't know they did that! And even CUTER....I have seen so many animals nursing their young but never before have I gotten to see bunnies nursing!!!! How adorrrrable!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this sweet footage with us!!! I loved it!!!

Hi there! Thanks for your kind comment! I don't know where you're from, but since putting up this video I have learned that not all rabbit species dig nesting burrows, for example those in the US don't, here the European rabbit does. Interesting isn't it?! And adorable they definitely are ;)

The reason is that they are prey animals so most will be taken by foxes , badgers , stoats and buzzards not forgetting the domestic cat .

Amazing how the mother rabbit protects her bunnies from predators by hiding them. She has a look of stoic endurance on her face as the eight little bunnies paw and suck her body for milk. Where would we be without mothers?

We used to have rabbit farm long back. For those who don't know, just like women try different methods to bare the pain during delivery, pregnant rabbits hold small bundle of grass in their mouths right before delivery for both pain and telling the outside world I am ready to give birth now.

Same here. The mother rabbits often make rather loud grunting sounds as they are giving birth. We had a doe give birth to a litter of ten, and they all survived, despite her having only eight teats.
