Last week we sat down with Oakland artist Young JR for an exclusive “Off The Porch” interview! During our conversation he talked about life in Oakland, being in the streets when he was young, jumping off the porch when he was 11, his mom being locked up when he was younger, his OG serving a 52 year prison sentence, starting to take music seriously when he was 18, being a big fan of Boosie, the grind it took to get music buzzing, his creative process, reveals he has 100,000 songs, partnering with EMPIRE, the music scene in Oakland right now, there being a lack on unity in Oakland, other artists in the Bay trying to sound like Detroit artists, bringing a lot off energy to his shows, sacrifices he has to made, taking some time off from making music when he was wife passed away in 2020, reveals what inspired him to start back making music, his single “Back End” blowing up, being very open to his fans about his life, his upcoming album ‘Born Again’, the dance that inspired his song “Bird Walk”, goals for 2022, advice for the youth, fatherhood, and much more!

If you know anything about Detroit and The Bay, you know that the lifestyles of both areas are extremely similar. From the car shows and daily living, to the political climate. Not only that, but sonically, they share love for similar music. It's purely love, respect, and cooperation.

The bayarea and losangeles created what the world today calls trap music drill music mob music gangsta music and d boy music,,,so the bay could never copy detroit when the bay created the sound back in the early 80s......in fact,,detroit didn't get they first known street rapper until 1992,,,and that was mc breed...however,,NWA and TOO$HORT came out in 1982,,E40 1987,,Herm 1986,,Freddie Benz 1982,,Rappin fotay 1986,,Sergio 1986,,Boo 1986,,Spice 1 1988,,2Pac 1989,,Richie Rich 1986,,415 1986,,Mac Dre 1989,,Celly Cell 1988,,B Legit 1987,,The Click 1987,,Seagram 1988..just to name a few BAY and LA rap artist that created gangsta rap drill music mob music trap music and d boy music...in fact,,back in the early 80's,,the south,,eastcoast,,and the midwest,,was not rapping like cali,,,they was all style concious nocursing beatboxin breakdance poplock beat street party rappers...FACTS.....THEN IN the early 90's,,they all switched they styles to sound like California,,,,,just like 2PAC said they did....that being said,,u young up and coming bay rap artist need to stop saying that the bay sound like other cities,,when the bay and La created mob music drill music trap music d boy music and gangsta music...also,,the bay has countless rap pioneer legends,,but young jr only mentions 3 x crazy when he was asked who he listened to growing up...smh...however,,,I like young jr,,,he has a great rap flow mixed with style and personality...however,,he needs to pay more homage to THE BAY AREA PIONEER FATHER'S OF MOB MUSIC,,D BOY MUSIC,,TRAP MUSIC,,DRILL MUSIC,,AND GANGSTA MUSIC....🙄....Also,,im 49 years old and i remember the early 80's clearly,,,,so all the things I said in this message are 100 percent FACTS...
