24th President North 6ix how do you break character on purpose? wtf lol it's suppose to be a fun and silly skit, it's hilarious...of course they're going to laugh at themselves and break lol. it's funny that they do! when are you not suppose to break character doing comedy skits or movies lol. SNL does it all the time & im sure all comedy movies have stacks of blooper reels. "routine" to break character HA!

Jimmy Fallon can't keep in character to save his fucking life and people love him for it. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig.

Jimmy never can with anyone. Ever. The only time I've ever seen him not crack up is in edited pre-taped segment. I wish the guy well, he seems very nice, and I like the type of stuff he can facilitate on his show from others, but the guy's rise is still a mystery to me.

sparrowhawk, I've always thought that it was the way he carried himself and was very self deprecating. he doesn't put on airs or try to seem like a big star, he's, as my mom used to say, "just folks". he can chat comfortably with anyone. I think people maybe find that relatable. just my guess. 😎

Sparrowhawk and I totally get that. To be honest, the first few times I saw him on SNL, I even said "as hard as it is to get on the show, how did he make it? So many greats of comedy cut their teeth on there, and he can't even stay in character!" Weekend Update was perfect for him, and it was a brilliant choice from the producers to cast him there. I really think that for the people who have loved him since then, it's weekend update they remember most. And really, I think it was his work on that that got him consideration for the Tonight show, which he's totally made his own.

People always pick on Jimmy for breaking character and laughing but Tim Conway used to break Harvey Korman up during sketches on old The Carol Burnett Show and that became something people always looked forward to each week when Tim and Harvey did a sketch together. They are still considered some of the best sketches from that show for that very reason.
