How the HELL do people make it to ISEF? Are mentors essential?
@jenna2520

anjopag31 sorry this is late but yes mostly. Both my brothers were in ISEF and they had a mentor help them to build and conduct their science project. They tested something with drones and the other tested something with kayaks.

A long time ago I posted a vicious comment on this video about how he laughed as a girl. I am ashamed of that today. I really don't know what else to say other than I didn't even know who i was during that dark time. I know this is odd but I needed to apologize. Sorry, I've grown up now and I hope this kid has done and continues to do great things. We need more people like him and less intolerance and ignorance like I used to be.

+Cade786 You should have posted a vicious comment about how he's a fraud. Well, maybe not vicious, but backed up with an obsessive amount of research.

This kid has made one of the greatest discoveries in the history of our modern world. His effort will almost assuredly save your life or someone's life close to you. He is, at the age of 15, one of the greatest minds of our time. I am humbled.
Jack is a blessing to all of us, not just those of us who have cancer, are at risk for cancer, will never have cancer ... or even ever know of persons who are or might be effected indirectly by cancer. He's a blessing to humanity.
He deserves this .!!! For everyone who went to ISEF you are all winners!!!!
This video continues to bring a smile to my face (after multiple viewings). His exuberance is wonderful. People are so worried about showing any emotions - their need to appear cool and reserved. It is refreshing to see such a joyous reaction! Jack is an amazing person and is a real winner (award or not) because he's following his dreams and changing the world. At 15 he sets an incredibly positive example. Maybe some of the negative responders here could learn a lesson from him.

This young man needs to be recognized as much as any of his classmates who are great athletes or those who debate effectively...Or do anything to the very best of their ability. Fill the news with the good and the great. Stop giving oxygen to those who want headlines for doing the most terrible things imaginable.
isn't it awkward when he says this was his childhood dream.. he's still a kid.. imagine how many goals he's yet to achieve at this rate
Congratulations, Jack! I cannot even begin to imagine how proud of you your parents must be. Thanks to them too for raising such an awesome son.
Nerd ? He's a genius. Wish there was more youngsters like him :) My uncle died from pancreas cancer too... He did a big thing for humanity, you guys show some respect for his amazing works

I'm an adult male, but still cried a bit when seeing the beautiful raw reaction of this young man. Be honest, you got moved too...
Amazing. You can see how passionate he is, not just about his research and developments, but about humanity and the lives of people in the world.
I absolutely love him! Loved his reaction, personality and enthusiasm. Congratulations!!!! :)
I'm so happy for him! His mouth was open so wide that it looked like he was trying to swallow the confetti lol
I show this video to my 8th grade research class every year. It is a wonderful testament to the passion of truly believing in yourself and a commitment to being the best you can be. My greatest achievement as a teacher is when I can inspire young students to reach their potential: whatever that might be. Kudos to this amazing young man, I can only imagine how he will change the world in the future.
You're a rock star Jack! You definitely deserved this prize with the amount of hard work you put into this experiment x

This brings so much joy to me
Carbon nanotubes were used to help develop the test, the test involves the biomarker, mesothelin, found in specific cancers such as pancreatic cancer. The mesothelin can be found in the blood and urine and the dip stick used to indicate the presence of mesothelin costs $0.03.
So proud of him : ) We in Maryland had a wonderful year of progress in 2012. Cannot wait to see Jack contribute to our future progress!

Jack, this is an awesome use of the 'super-hero' single walled carbon nano-tube. Brilliant concept and a deserving ISEF win for the MANY lives it will affect.
