Young Ferrets First Day - Sunrise Ferreting 19

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A ditsy young ferret inadvertently scares rabbits from their hole as she explores the unfamiliar environment.
After quickly bolting a lone rabbit, I ventured further up the hedge and found a warren with lots of freshly kicked dirt around the entrances.
Nine months old is an ideal age to introduce a ferret to hunting rabbits. They can be started earlier in life but if they receive a particularly bad kick from a rabbit it may discourage them. Leto has been eating rabbit and I have got her used to wearing a collar prior to her first day hunting. She has received no training. I'm relying on her natural curiosity and prey drive to seek out and harass the rabbits. I expect her performance to improve with experience alone.
Athena is being worked beside her to set a good example and get the rabbits moving around the warren. The rabbits seem to sense the confidence of each ferret and don't seem too bothered about the clumsy intruder at first.

Why I hunt rabbits - These rabbits are collected for food, for my ferrets and people. This is a free range meat, that has lived a free life. These rabbits will be controlled even without me. By taking them myself, the meat is used. Ferreting is an environmentally friendly method of rabbit control.
Rabbit control and the law - www.gov.uk/guidance/rabbits-h...
For KZread policy audit - The video is edited in a self explanatory way for all languages to understand. People under the age of 18 also practise ferreting and I aim to set a mature example. Contact between the animals is brief and is not the focus of the video. Rabbit dispatches are not shown. No blood or gore is present.

Amazing to see how they react to the rabbits running past and how they can easily lose the rabbit. Just goes to show what hard job they got. Obviously none of these posters have *read* Watership Down. :) Even cursory research shows that rabbits need predators in order to live comfortably. These bunnies were dispatched quickly by the owner and no doubt felt less pain and fear, for less time, than if they'd been killed by a dog or coyote. Seriously, give your collective heads a shake. This is as close as you can get to hunting the way Gaia would intend. No chemicals, no blades, no poison or gas....no snares and their horrors, no guns and explosions...it was quiet and natural. The rabbits lived and died in way that suits what they are. The man should be commended, no less than that.

Before every hunt, the human and the ferrets have an in depth discussion about how they will catch the rabbits, after a lot of critiquing they would come to an agreement as to what plan will work, usually the ferrets get their way, as they seem to know these tunnels more than the humans. After every hunt, successful or unsuccessful, they analyse their hunts and try improve for the future hunts. I hope that helps.

Both probably, that’s what we always did. We’d eat some, and the rest would go to the ferrets...it helps them learn that there’s a reward to be had if they catch the rabbits.
