Young Ferrets First Day - Sunrise Ferreting 19
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
A ditsy young ferret inadvertently scares rabbits from their hole as she explores the unfamiliar environment.
After quickly bolting a lone rabbit, I ventured further up the hedge and found a warren with lots of freshly kicked dirt around the entrances.
Nine months old is an ideal age to introduce a ferret to hunting rabbits. They can be started earlier in life but if they receive a particularly bad kick from a rabbit it may discourage them. Leto has been eating rabbit and I have got her used to wearing a collar prior to her first day hunting. She has received no training. I'm relying on her natural curiosity and prey drive to seek out and harass the rabbits. I expect her performance to improve with experience alone.
Athena is being worked beside her to set a good example and get the rabbits moving around the warren. The rabbits seem to sense the confidence of each ferret and don't seem too bothered about the clumsy intruder at first.

Why I hunt rabbits - These rabbits are collected for food, for my ferrets and people. This is a free range meat, that has lived a free life. These rabbits will be controlled even without me. By taking them myself, the meat is used. Ferreting is an environmentally friendly method of rabbit control.
Rabbit control and the law - www.gov.uk/guidance/rabbits-h...
For KZread policy audit - The video is edited in a self explanatory way for all languages to understand. People under the age of 18 also practise ferreting and I aim to set a mature example. Contact between the animals is brief and is not the focus of the video. Rabbit dispatches are not shown. No blood or gore is present.

I was absolutely enraptured by this! Even found myself cheering and coaching from the "sidelines." Lol. I even did jazz hands (how I show my deaf Ferret he did good) when one of them got a bunny! Thank you for this!

Another amazing video again mate. I'm also curious to how you get that camera so far down them warrens. Amazing to see how they react to the rabbits running past and how they can easily lose the rabbit. Just goes to show what hard job they got. I let my ferrets inside the living room yesterday for an hour. They are brilliant to watch climbing and getting up to mischief. Anyone else bring there ferrets indoors?

@M B 2.0 I put quotation marks there for a reason. As in yes they were called "tunnel rats", no they weren't literal rats. Anyone who doesn't know about their real world application can easily find out with a quick google search.
Obviously none of these posters have *read* Watership Down. :) Even cursory research shows that rabbits need predators in order to live comfortably. These bunnies were dispatched quickly by the owner and no doubt felt less pain and fear, for less time, than if they'd been killed by a dog or coyote. Seriously, give your collective heads a shake. This is as close as you can get to hunting the way Gaia would intend. No chemicals, no blades, no poison or gas....no snares and their horrors, no guns and explosions...it was quiet and natural. The rabbits lived and died in way that suits what they are. The man should be commended, no less than that.

@BunniiDusk (before hand edit: I did not mean to write this much hot damn, meant to be short) I mean, I'm a rabbit person/owner myself but, there's really no true harm being done here, one person does not equate to the entire planet, its an unfortunate reality but you can't control the entire population of the planet and get them to all collectively agree on cutting down on things. Eventually our own overpopulation will cause our own decline in the coming years, as per natural dictation, overpopulation often leads to dryouts on resources, food and space. and eventually, death. so, the human race will get what's coming eventually wether we do something about it now or not, won't really matter, because people pump out a lot of kids per year alone. its not really that people don't go out and enjoy nature with or without technology, its a matter of how you view and understand it, and how it applies to the modern human world, how does it apply to us as the apex of the planet, we're so high in the food chain that we're becoming our own end. But when it comes to hunting, many people familiarize themselves with the fastest, most humane ways to handle catching and killing an animal, in the past there were far more brutal methods, that often did not work. In some places rabbits like cottontails were introduced to non native areas and become invasive, yes an argument can be made that we are invasive species, and, in some cases yes, but in origin, our species had spread to other places and became native over time, then invaded each other lmao. But one thing we can do to repay for some of the things we do, is help handle what balance is left in the natural world and assist it rather than just let it collapse.

Before every hunt, the human and the ferrets have an in depth discussion about how they will catch the rabbits, after a lot of critiquing they would come to an agreement as to what plan will work, usually the ferrets get their way, as they seem to know these tunnels more than the humans. After every hunt, successful or unsuccessful, they analyse their hunts and try improve for the future hunts. I hope that helps.
Fun fact: Aside from primates, one of Humanity's closest living relatives are Rodents and Rabbits :D

☹️ - an unfortunate coincidence that those wild rabbits resemble our Neverland Dwarf rabbit (female, we named Urwen) who had 2 litters of bunnies (after mating with a male Lionhead rabbit we named Ben) and both of them were eventually eaten by the fox.

@BunniiDusk not many people think that now, though. I've seen an increase of people understanding the difference between domestic pet rabbits and cottontails (wild) and other types of wild species. Hunting isn't necessarily harmful unless overdone and done inhumanely. But if its for a reason (like in this video description, to feed the ferrets a more natural diet to them rather than feeding them other things), its not truly sinister in of itself.
