Ok very cute video, and I even recognized some close horse lady friends! I know a lady that rode her whole life into her 80th decade. Here's hoping that will be us! I am 52, and my favorite riding buddies are 14! Stay young at heart.

Hahaha! I came back to riding 4 years ago at 53. I ride with my friends who range from 67 to 80 and this was so dead on! 🤣🤣🤣 Just yesterday my 80 year old friend and I were practicing ground mounting and it should be on video! Funny though, we often or usually ride bareback...it's not that we're great, girths just get trickier and it's just quicker. We need to save our strength to ride! 🤣

My horse (not technically mine, but she might as well be - I've been riding and training her for 10 years, and she's utterly convinced that she's mine, and I'm hoping to buy her soon) was so ridiculously rusty with so many things (that she was perfect with before she left) after she came back from being on loan to a school for about 6 weeks for beginners to do some make-up work, that the last few weeks, I've been repeating that over and over to myself/my horse - "What the *_heck_* did they do to you, girl?" I know that that school teaches some things a little differently, but she was *_FAR_* rustier after those 6 weeks than she was from not being ridden by anyone except really little kids in the corral the 6 weeks that I was gone for last Christmas.

So true. My daughter and I share a horse it went from “maybe you can ride my horse, sweetie” to “I borrow my daughter’s horse from time to time”. We got a 15 year old experienced horse because I got tired of getting bucked off and breaking bones. Now I call the barn and ask if somebody can ride the horse on my days off so he doesn’t have too much energy when I ride him. I am that old rider!

I've been thinking the exact same thing about my horse the last few weeks (not technically mine, but I'm the one who's been riding and training her for the last 10 years, and she treats me like she's mine, so she might as well be) - she was super rusty on so many things that she was perfect at before she left (she was on loan for about 6 weeks to a school for some beginners to do some make-up work), and now she's spooking all over the place (she nearly threw me on Wednesday when she spooked bigger than she has in over 9 years) when she used to pretty much never spook (she's a parade horse, and my town goes all out for that parade, so she has to be super solid) - I think she picked up the spookiness from the other horses she was around because all the other horses at that school are extremely high strung, even though she's an Arab and they're all AQHs, so I'm hoping it will wear off with time, and it *_better_* wear off before this year's parade. I'm having to retrain things that took 2 years for her to learn (like never eating when being handled/ridden unless specifically offered something), and I'm not amused about it one bit, which is one of the big reasons I'm hoping to be able to buy her soon, so that I can dictate who is and isn't allowed to ride her, which will allow me to monitor and supervise all of her training.

It's a Fulmer snaffle (aka Full Cheek). I've seen in other videos that it's double-jointed, probably the Happy Mouth one. Fulmers can't be pulled through the mouth, so they're great for horses that can be difficult to turn, or that are a bit more nervous with the bit, as it sits stiller in the mouth (the position is fixed thanks to the shanks). I also have a double-jointed Fulmer
