You Won't Believe How Tiny This Lead, Zinc, Silver Mine Really Is!

*Sorry for the video jitter in while exploring the tunnels. I am still learning on how this new camera handles low light situations.
In this video, we're going to take a look at one of the most unique and abandoned places in the world: a small lead, zinc, silver mine in California.
This mine is so small that you can walk all the way around it in just a few minutes. You'll get to see how the mine was used over the years, and you'll be surprised by the size and scale of this abandoned place. If you're looking for a unique and unforgettable travel experience, then check out this video!

Wow! I haven’t been there for years and years! Kinda forgot it existed. Last time I was there, there was an old jackass miner prospecting in the area. ( that alone tells you how long ago it was) He was mad because we were at “his” gold mine. My dad called B. S. on him and he went off into the sunset cussing at us. My dad did a simple assay on the mine and found that there was a fair amount of mercury in it. All the metal contents were relatively small. On the way out, we ran into the prospector and he had mellowed out some by then so my dad offered him a cold beer and they talked for some time. He showed my Dad some really nice gold in a white Quartz matrix and (of course) wouldn’t say where he found it other than it was within 15 miles of where we were. I so miss those days of dessert exploration with my Dad!

@@CatDaddySteve last time I was there would be around 1963 or 1964 to the best of my memory. Time is kinda hard to remember nowadays. I was in that general area several times after that, once in 1980 with my brand new wife, but didn’t go to that exact stop.

@@CatDaddySteve no, it wasn’t, because my dad knew S.S.S. I had meet him once, but was pretty young and don’t remember much. My dad was a soft mark for all those guys and would always give them a small “grub stake” . My Dad was sent all over the lonely parts of Nevada, and meet a lot of characters. Panamint Annie ate at my house on several occasions as did a guy that I forget the name of that was looking for the lost Breyfogle mine for over 30 years. We lived in Vegas but Dads work took him to Tonopah and Goldfield and from there to all kinds of obscure places. That job lasted for five or six years until a Government contract ended. On a side note, one of the things that attracted me to my wife was her friendship with Ann Fayles, daughter of the founder of the “famous “ Goodspring bar. She was a history teacher at Western HS and my wife had her for a teacher, and a friendship sprung from that. I was so lucky to have been a tiny part of all that, but didn’t know or appreciate it at the time. In our day and age it’s hard to believe that there were still quite a few Jackass miners out there, but I was a witness to it.

Great video! I don't want to sound nitpicky just that when I hear the term tunnel in reference to mines I think of what I've always been taught, that only a horizontal passage that passes completely though the earth with an entrance opening and exit opening is a tunnel. A horizontal mine passage with only an entrance is usually referred to as an adit. Love the channel.

Most likely they staked & recorded some claims. The land is theirs to work until the claims expire.

They take out claims on them. That allows only them or their designated people to work the claim. It can be converted into an actual deed if very specific rules are followed. If you watch out your car window while driving thru the desert, you can still see many claim post still standing. In fact a friend of mine just made a new claim about a year ago. You have to do a certain amount of work on your claim every year and file it with the government to keep your claim active, and if you don’t someone can reclaim it in their name.
