You Won't Believe How They Treat You In Kelantan Malaysia 🇲🇾

We love Kelantan, Malaysia the local people are some of the kindest we have come across.
We headed to the Siti Khadijah market in the center of Kota Bharu city, we've visited alot of markets in our time but this one was really great.
We ate some delicious Malay dishes in the food court and tried the Kelantanese classic of Kuih Akok that a seller recommended we go try whilst in the market.
The hospitality in Kelantan really is amazing, infact Malaysians in general are just always incredibly kind 🇲🇾

Kuih Akok is basically just charcoal grilled beaten egg yolk, so it's custardy. I'm not a Kelantanese, but lived in Kelantan for 2 years, in boarding school. Us being ungrateful teenagers we used it as projectile to throw at girls we hate. Nasi Tupang is good... it's compacted mushy rice with savoury fillings. at 17:08, the skewered thingy in banana leaves is grilled glutinous rice with spicy coconut shavings inside. at 18:00 actually the lady there wanted to give you one as sample. 1t 26:21 "Tahi Itik" literally means "Duck Poo" because of how it looks, that's why that guy laughed, translating it would be awkward. But of course, it's not made from any animals droppings, it's just how it's called. FYI we also have a species of flowering plant we call "Chickeen Poo", which of course has anything to do with it's namesake. If I was there, I'd buy everything you pointed your finger at just so you could have a taste of everything. You're here just for a while, i want you to taste everything... discover them all.

jala mas=golden net, is made from egg yolk + sugar. buah tanjung (the red eye drop shape) is made from egg yolk + sugar...same as the jala mas. the spongy plasticine type is called tahi itek=literally means 'duck poo' 😊, is made from the left over of the egg, i.e. the white egg + sugar. that is why those "kuih" have similar texture and sweetness.

Malaysians are incredibly warm, kind and hospitable people, particularly the Malays. They are always willing to share their food, offer a helping hand and at least, brighten up your day with a smile, whether it’s a shy or confident one. It’s so engrained in their culture that this practice has spread across the nation, regardless of race and religion. I hope that you too will spread and share the same vibe with everyone else that you meet in your travels, especially to those who are less fortunate.

17:08 that’s Sata Ikan, which probably you can only find in the East Coast. It’s a fish paste grilled wrapped in leaves, and it’s delicious. Best if you can get them directly off the grill. As for the ketupat, these are small ones, abit more oily, and different from the type used with satay or for Hari Raya normally. These ketupat are quite staple everyday food, could be savoury or sweet or plain. Plain ones could be eaten with dry curry or rendang.

Mangosteen season comes in the same time as durian season. If you see lots of durian, chances are mangosteen are also in the market. In Malay psyche, if durian is the king, mangosteen is the queen. Mangosteen is often used as a symbol of honesty and manners in Malay psyche. It's skin is black (read: ugly), ugly complexion, but it's white (read: pure inside). And it's honest, if you count the "petals" at the bottom fo the fruit, you'd know how many individual seed is inside. So be like mangosteen: even though you're unattractive, but pure inside, honest, and sweet.

Good morning too guys. One things that is unique in that particular market is most of the sellers are women. And men usually do the physical works like carrying stuffs etc. *** Akok is made of flour, palm syrup and a lot of eggs.

17:10 Ellis, that is called satar... a bit similar to solok lada, except this is wrapped in a leaf and then grilled over charcoal. It's really nice, you should try. 26:18 he said Jala Mas... jala means net and emas is gold... literally translated is golden net. We have a similar dish called roti jala... which is a type of roti made into a net form. The way to eat is also to dip into a curry sauce.

32:31 That could be Malay beef floss... "Serunding Daging". You could buy a pack of "Serunding Daging" at the same place, and toss it into your bag for snacks later, or as add on to your rice. It last a long time. A pack of 1kg could set you back about RM50-RM80. The orange balls yea, it's pure sugar.. Its sweet, too sweet for me, coming from the south. During Ramadhan it was served as part of the Iftar meal, students from outside Kelantan dare not touch it... seriously too sweet for us. We'd just move it to our Kelantanese friends food tray, they can have it all.
