This idea of gently hovering the club, from putter to driver, may be the single best golf tip I've ever heard. I've tried it chipping and instantly felt more control of the clubface. Can't wait to take it to the range. Gorgeous setting for your videos at your club, by the way.

I've been working on all sorts of swing thoughts, wrists here and there, takeaway... everything! went range hovered the club and wow, so smooth, ball flight all the same on tracer, lovely 5 yard fade on all clubs, ball strike was ridiculous and yardages all consistent due to that strike.

It makes it easier for the clubhead to bottom out in front of the ball so you can easily hit it up on the clubface grooves and the center of the clubface and get the ball up in the air. All of a sudden, golf is fun!

Absolutely brilliant. I always hovered my driver, but didn’t realise you can apply the same to all your clubs. It definitely makes a difference to the smoothness of the takeaway and backswing. Best advice, don’t know why more golfers don’t apply the technique

This works! I tried it from putter to driver and it made a big difference in my ball striking. A much smoother and easier swing. It makes it easier to engage your big muscles. If you ground your clubs, you will have a tendency to be more handsy. Feeling the weight of all your clubs, (putter included), at address certainly makes for a smoother swing and better ball striking. Thank you for this excellent tip!!!

This all makes a lot of sense. I had a really bad game today and im willing to bet this was a lot of the cause. My tempo was off and I felt my mechanics was all off. Looking back the only time I actually hit or putted descent was when I hovered and relaxed.

That tip also helps with the physics of it... centrifugal force. If you're planted or touching the ground before your backswing, the centrifugal force tends to make the club head go a touch deeper and affect the contact point.

I have realized that I need to place the driver on the ground so that the ball is addressed by the toe of the club. But you take it a little further by hovering the club head of the driver behind the ball. I think this can also apply to the irons and fairway woods. The Pros place the club head behind the ball and then adjust their stance accordingly. We aren’t hitting the ground behind the ball but just past the ball. So the placement of the club should be nearer the toe of the club.

Like this a lot , I can and have a lot of times putted a four footer four foot past the hole after a big read and alignment tweaks , then walked up and single handed knocked it straight back into the hole without “thinking” . I do this so much that my friends have said I should single hand all putts . That doesn’t seem to work though , maybe the pause ( freeze) prior to hitting is the problem , I always hover so that’s not it , I’m going to try a more , read , visualise and walk up and hit approach . Good tip 👍

It is a very good thing you are great at golf, and didn't have to play baseball or throwing sports. :) But this is such a great reminder. Why do we all get "in the zone" sometimes? Because esrly success brings swaggar which brings fluidity. When we spray our first tee shot, we death grip the 2nd shot. And uneven grass always grabs a rigid swing, when any disruption throws the motion off

Very coincidentally, I just recently started doing this exact thing myself, especially putting, chipping and with my irons, and it's made a huge difference in my ball striking consistency. I've had a nice free flowing, tension free driver swing for a while now, but I never thought to apply that same principle to the rest of my game. Now that I've started doing so, my scoring is going down and subsequently, my enjoyment of the game is way up. Do I hit every shot flush now? Of course not, but I do much more often, and most importantly, the tension level overall is way down.
