Small correction to this video. The second set of engines are Lycoming Gas turbines, powering the water jets.

Correct, 2 gas turbines total 9600hp on 2-1 gearbox to the middle Wartsila waterjet and the Paxman enginenes give the power to "smaller" waterjets. (worked as commissioning engineer on the propulsion was a interesting project)

Holy crap is that fast. If you've never been fast on the water, speed is totally different than land. I think you should do some more extreme videos like this one. As always, your videos are AWESOME.

I love these short Q&A videos Esysman. If I had a super yacht, you’d have a standing invitation to stay in the VIP cabin as a guest. You’re too much fun to be crew.
As an merchant navy engineer I'm not soon surprised by the numbers of yachts, but 70 knots tops, I had to play it again to be sure I heard what you said. And 50 knots cruising. we cruise at 14 o.O

There have been many questions raised about this yacht and its owner. As far as im aware he failed to prove his claimed top speed. There is footage of it going crazy fast, so im sure it can, but if its really reaching the 70 knots? i doubt it.
@Warmaster_7

@@maxb2787 The Discovery Channel made a video that aired at least 6 or 7 years ago on television featuring the owner in question. Called Extreme Yachts. There might be a clip here on KZread. The yacht he had built at the time was about 100 feet long and could do at least 50 knots. I wish I could remember the name of that yacht and the speed she attained. He was asked how much did it cost to fill her up. He replied with: "It will melt your credit card."

It’s great to see the boundaries of naval architecture being explored in such awesome ways.
"It's a good question, actually." - Bits introductions Can you imagine the captain saying, "Sorry fellows, we can only take her to 65 knots today?"
Give it a AWD system, it will prevent the spin out
I remember when that was built. in a interview he was asked how much fuel it cost to go that fast and he said something like you need a lot because It will melt your credit cards. LOL it was funny.
For those asking, some estimated fuel consumption figures at full throttle. . . . . 2,200 gallons per hour , or 8,300 litres per hour.

That is absolutely amazing! Thanks for the video.
Thank you very much, I always enjoy your videos and look forward to them.
Your giggling at the end made me laugh :)
That's insane and majorly impressive at the same time.
Super cool! More vids like this please!

I've been sitting here with my jaw dropped at what you've just shared. Wow!
The pure joy in your face at the end of the video is priceless! You are a good soul.
Brilliant!! I remember the TV coverage after sea trials. The guy loves Speed 🤠
Brilliant video as normal. Thank you
That's more than the power of 2 top fuel drag racers in a luxury cruiser!
HOLY MOLY! IM IN LOVEEE!
The way you giggled at the end said it all.
Good job on the video. I’ll have to check out some more of your work.
I kept waiting to hear it had a foil system - but no - just brute forcing a boat that size to 80 mph is insane. Mad props to the hull designer
Love the chuckle at the end 😊
You make great videos.. thanks.
This was awesome
So nice to watch your videos from the before times.
love these snippets.
I love that little laugh at the end of the video when you state '74 mph...'. I can tell you're thinking "I really REALLY need to get a ride on this thing!!"
Now this is right up your alley for the need for speed. Fast cars, fast yacht, what more could a seafarer like yourself ask for? Next a supersonic Cessna perhaps! Quite the informative video, thanks 🙏
Wow this was a absolutely excellent excellent video I am a lover of boats and always has been I grew up in the 80s and late 70s I'm familiar with Mr stalupi and some of his yachts. But all your videos are always excellent your dictation and the way you explain things is is extremely or well articulated I enjoy them
Is that the same guy who had Heesen built superyacht Octopussy in the 70s?
You are fab, love your little giggle at the end, just thinking how fast that yacht is!
That sounds like great fun.
On my imaginary yacht the diesels would be called impulse engines and the gas turbine the warp core and the speedometer would say warp-factor instead on knots :-)
I wouldn't be able to resist giving military style orders if it was my vessel, and I'd also want to be able to captain it for the same reason "Helm, all ahead flank!". It would be terrifying but worth it
Your giggle at the end says everything.

Wow! Very interesting! (crazy)
I remember seeing a video of a yacht going really fast. They were on the bridge and had it up to really high speed but had a hard time with it and never got to full throttle. May have been this one. I'm surprised they didn't use turbines like coast guard cutters for open ocean. Maybe they should try a twin hull cat and see if that makes a difference.

This thing doesn't sail past too many bunker boats... There's a video of this vessel underway, it's incredible.
Wow, Now How Cool is That? You can outrun Pirates and pull a couple skiers no problems! That's my kind of Vessel!!
Great Video I had watched the video you were talking about. That is some crazy HP to throw down on that size yacht. Wasn't something like they had to hit a certain speed before he would take it? I can't reember it has been awhile. IT would be cool though to be out on deck with a drink and just nod at those smaller boats as you fly by. LMAO
You loved doing that story didn’t you 😎👏🏻⚓️💨 moral of the story “ when you’re got the cash 💵 and the need for speed nothing is impossible to achieve, super nice video 👍🏻
Thanks nice vid
What are the speed limits yachts must follow in different locations or conditions? Ports are likely to have various restrictions, but what about other scenarios like shipping lanes or just the open sea? Are there differences in legal speed limits versus courtesy speed limits around other vessels?
I wonder what the fastest current standard production model is.
YES! I like FAST!
That's crazy fast on the water. I imagine you'd have to do those speeds on glass-like water, or you'd wind up airborne with the screws out of the water, and a couple very expensive blown engines! I was on a boat that skipped over a couple swells coming out of the lea of an island, and blew a V-12, as a squall had gone over us. That made for a long trip home in some nasty seas. Stay safe out there!
what range do they have?
Going past sports fishing boats toasting them with a martini. Classic.
The best looking fast super yacht is definitely Mangusta 165 (Serenity). Such beautiful clean lines and top speed of around 40 knots, if I had the money, would definitely be my choice!
That rich guy has a sense of humor.
Wonder what speeds the big sailing yachts can achieve. Anyone knows?
Brilliant. Hydra Foil perhaps as well....
Insane speed, for a big water craft.

he built the Heesen octopussy which was the original fastest superyacht in the world. its for sale at the moment with slower engine configuration.
What’s the fuel burn at WOT
What engines would I need for the yacht I invision? 200 meters. 95 meters beam. About 20,000 tons empty. 2 propellers and 2 jets. I'm thinking 4 engines and they can power the props, or jets, or both. I hope for a top speed of around 30 knots. Cruise can be as slow as 12 knots. BTW, serious question. Thanks. As always a very interesting, informative, and well shot video.
Can you please make a full walktrough video of that yacht so that I could see how it looks from inside and outside.

@charlieodom9107

It would only make it half way at that distance!!! Wide open, it has less than 500 miles range, according to some estimated figures.
That's insane. It must be a floating fuel tank with a few hammocks and a beer fridge. You shouldn't be able to hear the engines over the sound of the fuel pumps. 😮
