These squatters were encroaching on private properties. Therefore, the property owners hopelessly the gov. move them out of their property and so they can build a building to be occupied by businesses nd individuals who can afford to pay the rent and stay in the city close to their workplace.

👍 Justice is sadly seldom for the poor, even in rich countries. But a free press does help shine a light on such issues... BTW: Nice of your hubby to take you along that narrow drain. 🙂

These people chose to live that way. There are so many other people who refused to live in the slums and now very successful in life. It's their choice. Let's respect their aspirations and wants.

So sad to see that things still remain the same since I grew up there in the 60's to the 80's. That big division is still obvious and these kawawa deserve better. Salamat to you and your hubby,MG!

Thank you Manila Girl for sharing this video. It is very sad what happened to those poor people. Maybe some people will see this video and be grateful for what they have and realize there are people in the world today living in such awful conditions. I left the Philippines in 1989 after being stationed there 4 years while serving in the U.S. Air Force. I'll never forget seeing places like this, it breaks your heart especially seeing the children and old people living like this.

Out of all the poor communities that you have visited, this was the most emotionally depressed one. The life has been sucked out of it. And I guess this process will be repeated in other communities with little to no opposition. Stay safe out there and well done to showing BOTH sides of Manila

I have sympathy for those people.

This saddens me greatly. The government as wealthy as they are, should take care of their people, regardless of their social standing. There should be agencies in place to offer aid. What can I do to help. I'm in Texas and I can try to do something.😮‍💨

please explain to me what is SHOCKING about this video. For me this is normal life for Filipinos who live in the provinces. All the people look healthy and wear nice clean clothes. I have seen much worse conditions in other countries.

❤️ it's a shame what happens to these people. In the end when the man being interviewed said the outsiders will occupy the rentals did he mean foreigners? The corrupt governments from the world are winning Manila Girl. The people still have a big heart I see some smiles still ❤️

it is not right for anyone to encroach on a private property without permission. That's illegal, trespassing. What if you own that property, now being occupied by squatters and fighting that they own it with no legal papers?

And after all that was done to them, the people I saw had maintained their dignity and kept on with their lives. Shame on those officials who took part in this.

@@sasboe3602 not really, coz you get free food from charititable institutions, but you can't get FREE tickets to Hiphop Korean idols.

It is very sad but the people there have no ownership of the land and because they squat for so long they think they are entitled to stay no matter what-----when the authorities give them written notice or verbal notice that the area will be cleared and they have to move out, they think it just wont happen and they do nothing----and when that day comes they protest that they are being wronged. That is why unfortunately it looks high handed when they must bring in units of force to protect the demolition crews-----everyone is wrong except the squatters who have paid nothing for years to occupy land they dont own----they think that the news crews will stop the progress. And I have no doubt that cheap public housing will be built and they will be assisted to occupy a home but then they will have to pay some rent-----but they want everything for free----and I will guarantee that some will get a home at very cheap rental and will not live it chosing to rent it out at a higher rent. Sad, but I cannot feel sorry for them. It happended before in Tondo and in North Caloocan

The very poor have almost no rights, anywhere in the world. Nine million family's in the Philippines are poor and do not get three meals a day. If their children are added in I am talking about forty seven million hungry people. Better jobs are closed off to them since Phil health and a police clearance is required for better jobs.
