You Want Both?! - 5 Tips To Decide Between Any Two Watches - Omega Speedmaster Or Rolex Submariner?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Today I answer one of the most frequently asked question I get every day. How does one decide between two watches you equally want to buy? You have done the research, tried them on countless times but still can't make up your mind to pull the trigger. Today I share 5 no no nosense tips that I use when deciding between two watches myself. No matter if you are deliberating between a Seiko SKX009 or an Orient Bambino, a Rolex Submariner and an Omega Speedmaster, this is practical advice I have found useful from my own years of watch collecting.

I finally had surgery today after a two week long painful odyssey of figuring out what was wrong with me. This hobby and this channel have really helped me take my mind off things, and I cannot thank you enough for the hard work you put into the channel. Cheers!

I'm sure a lot of people find these comments corny but I can relate. I did not have surgery but as of late with all the negativity around from people, news, events, politics, covid etc. I'm detached myself from all social media and only watch relaxing KZread videos like this channel or renovations with no sound lol ... it does the soul good and clears the mind of all the crap going around. best wish on your recovery.

I'm never in that situation. I only buy a watch I can't resist, and there can only be one like that at a time. If you can't decide between two watches, you are trying to use logic where it doesn't apply. The logical thing is not to buy a watch because you don't need one. When you get the irrational desire to buy one specific watch and you can't get over it, then it's the right one.

    1. Budget - how much to service, or source parts in the future - resell value (if you tend to flip) - investment value 2. Style - genre (dress, etc.) and colors - classics always stay in trend 3. Lifestyle 4. Consider your collection - try something new - (or) stick to your thing 5. Take your time 6. Despite the above, go for what you want

Maybe its being English but we tend to regard Rolex, like Rolls Royce, as "flash". Omega, if I were to take a similar analogy, would be a Bentley. More understated.

Those are value watches. Maybe I'm to frugal with my money but those are far from grail watches. I have no problem dropping money on watches so i would buy all these in one purchase rather than chose only one considering these are value watches not luxury, which I feel your statement calling them top tier was trying to insinuate they are too expensive to own all of them which is far from true if your a fool like me who doesnt know what else to spend money on. lol Personally got my eye on the new black titanium casio dw5000 but am going to instead buy a 35th anniversary edition project team tough dw5600 and put an after market metal bezel and bracelet. Beats the price of the proprietary version however still slightly expensive.

This video helped me a lot with a tough buying choice I'm facing. Was considering getting my first Rolex, either a Datejust or a Submariner. I finally decided on getting a Datejust because I already own a Speedmaster 57, which although looks good in a suit, I wanted something more dressy, and the submariner would have been quite similar to the speedy in terms of the "look" with a suit. Now all I have to do is figure out which Datejust! haha. Thanks a lot for all the videos!

T, you're SO right about going through "phases". I've had 4 Rolexes over the years, sometimes the chemistry was there, sometimes not. Taking your advice, I've been kicking around which Sinn to buy for nearly a year now...wanted a T2 at first, but I no longer scuba dive, considered a 104, but finally landed on a EXAM 3F, which arrived today! 8:55 Dive watches can be used W/ formal wear. I've been saying that all along. I've been wearing my Marathon JSAR proudly in any and all environments, from work in the many gyms I worked at (getting banged around a bit), then everyday as a PE Teacher, now in Healthcare (though I have to remove it, as it may scratch my patients). I wore it for my wedding photoshoot in various tuxes and suits, to the wedding itself and various other formal occasions. It just suits (pun intended) any and all outfits and occasions...

Excellent video even though it's an old one. The Speedy is always nibbling away in the back of my mind. My diver box is ticked with an SKX, I have the Rolex dress box ticked with an Oyster Perpetual (it was a gift), so I think it's time for a a Speedy. The Valjoux movement is a workhorse that's serviceable, it looks fabulous and you don't look like a gaudy footballer at the pub. Sorted then, now the search, I talked myself into it.

When I'm trying to decide between two things I try to imagine which one I'd be less disappointed with. If I bought the speedy would I be disappointed that I didn't have the sub, or vice versa. I find that subjective way of thinking about it helps me more than just trying to work out which one I like more.

Some really good points here. When I bought my Black Bay Heritage, I wanted the one with the "smile" dial, and the ETA. Because I wanted a serviceable movement, on that I did not have to send off to Tudor at a premium. I also really loved that watch and had m eye on it for a while and was able to get one for a deal once everyone dumped theirs for the 58. Next, nearly every watch I own I have bought online. The only shops near me are chain, mall-style shops, where your options are very limited. In fact, our local mall, 5 minutes from my house have 4 jewelry stores in it. Three are owned by the same big box company and all have the same brands in it: ESQ, Bulova, Citizen, etc. You aren't going to find any Rolex, Omega, Squale, Tudor, NOMOS, or even Seiko. You have to go online for that. You might get a Seiko or two in Macy's, but even then, it's not any of the models people want, and their selection is much smaller than what they offer from Citizen or Michael Kors.

Deciding between the Rolex Daytona (116500 - White Dial) vs. the new JLC Master Chronograph sector dial. Obviously, at the time of this video posting I haven't had a time to try on the JLC but the Rolex fits quite well. From the photos, the JLC really speaks to me, and the Rolex just looks incredible.

Great video as always TGV. I'm wondering what makes you think watches are trending smaller? If you look at some of the new releases and even some re-issues, a lot of them are going 40mm or above. Might be worth a bit of a video on watch trends ;).

I had a Speedy. The bezel ring popped off and the helsite crystal scratched easily. Both were easily repair yet annoying. I was also a little nervous about the water resistance. Additionally on my 7” wrist it looked a little big. Ended up selling the Speedy and getting a Sub. The Sub is indestructible and I’ll leave it to my son. Looking for an Explorer for my other son for the same reasons. Something makes me miss the Speedy, though. Classic watch. Great vid, TGV.

I think I might have just found a watch for myself! This Datejust looks stunning on suede strap and would look excellent on leather nato. The movements in this model - 3035/3135 - are very reliable with 42/50 hours power reserve respectively. Interesting.

Fantastic! This was a great video lots of help! I have been trying to decide on the Speedmaster the black sub or the hulk for about a year. Its looking like the Speedmaster moonwatch watch after lots of trying on. Pictures don't do this watch justice! Plus I have 3 divers already. A red black bay, SKX007 & 009. I have not go a chronograph. So it makes sense in lots of ways. The colour i dress watch option. Then next i will need to decide between the two Subs! I also have the Navitimer v the sinn 903 in the back of my mind! It never ends! Love it!

TGV, I really enjoyed this video! Alas, the typical dilemma I find myself in so often. Rolex, or Omega? At this juncture, I am satisfied with my Rolex GMt-Master ii 116710LN and am not interested in another Rolex. My dilemma now is, do I trade up my Omega Seamster 2551.80 towards an Omega Speedmaster moon watch? Or, do I keep my 2551.80 and save until I can bank roll a Speedmaster? That is my current problem and it is making me lose sleep! Any advise you can provide on this front would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again my friend :) Nathan

I'm about to take delivery of a 2016 model Ciizen Proximity BZ1000-54E. I wanted a watch that's still "a watch" and not a wrist computer and this one really caught my eye. Did as much research as I could on it but bottom line is, to me it's a really handsome time piece and lim most likely still be enjoying looking at it and wearing it long after an iwatch has been superseded. I have considered this watch for almost a year now and still feel excited about getting it. That my process seems to concur with our advice just makes me all that much happier. Any chance of possibly reviewing the proximity Tristano? All the best sir.

I'm having trouble deciding between getting a vintage dress watch in an Omega seamaster or geneve and a newer "vintage- style" Hamilton Intramatic. I don't really have experience with a vintage watch but I love the look of these omegas for dress occasions. The Hamilton looks quite stunning and minimalist. Both of these watches can be fetched around the same price. I suppose my hard decision comes from getting a new watch or one that may or may not have problems due to being 60 or more years old.

I'm having this very problem at the moment, I can't decide between the Squalematic 60 ATM grey or the Alpina Seastrong 300 ref AL-525LGG4V6. I'm leaning heavily towards the Squale but do so want a cushion case diver in my collection.

Regarding servicing our watch collection I found out a lot of problems with lack of spare parts availability even for big companies like Rolex or Hamilton. Recently I serviced my father's Hamilton that he bought 20 years ago and Hamilton service center solution is to replace the whole engine bloc with a new more modern engine. I was flabbergasted, why they don't have spare parts for the original movement? How can we preserve the value and originality of our watches if the company itself insists of turning them into a frankenwatch? I checked online and it's actually a widespread problem for years. And I decided to cancel the Hamilton service. I'm not sure if replacing the whole movement is a good thing value wise.
