12:00 - That's the wrong charger cable. The correct MagSafe charger for the first gen MacBook Air was smaller and angled out the back so it would have no problem remaining connected when sitting flat on a surface. A 128Gb SSD was an option, model MC234LL/A and cost $1,799 as configured and if I recall... was a $500 upgrade over the 128Gb spinning drive.

IIRC, those T ones only lasted a bit because they had issues making contact and were replaced by the angled versions. My 2010 MacBook Pro has the L one.

Lol, that's the wrong charger for that first gen MacBook Air. The original charger connector had the wire come out at a 90 degree angle so you could charge it while sitting flat on a table.

I find it great that the charger included in that MacBook Air is the older, now less common T-type MagSafe 1, even though it probably shipped with the L-shaped MagSafe 1

It also had its own specific 45W MacBook Air charger and two skus - one had an ssd and one had the ipod drive.

The original MacBook Air didn't use the standard MagSafe adapter, they a rounded version that would tuck neatly under the rounded side of the system.

Love your content Austin! Would love to see you grab some mystery tech from my previous employer Epic iO Technologies but…. It’d be kinda expensive (they have solar panel trailers with AI cameras, amongst other things).

A common upgrade for those Macbook Airs, would be to upgrade the internal SSD's from the Macbook Airs from a Dell Latitude D430. They used the same form factor 1.8" drive . The Dells hard drives if I remember correctly was from Liton, and Samsung used Toshiba SSD's. Fun times, and to be honest I don't think the Apple was that much smaller then the 12.1" D430.

With the cube it is more than likely only using the RJ45 connector as a convenient connector rather than it actually being Ethernet. It is a connector first much like usb is a connector first. There are not strictly rules about what have to do with a connector type. Also the cube is really cool.

Austin... the Air was a response to the Ultrabook movement, and the "SSDs" of the time were actually eMMC.

That cube is nearly identical to a light table the preschool i work at has. Ours is a rectangle in a wood box. Everything else about it is identical. Would explain the water proofing.

I GOT AN SSD IN 2010. IT WAS SO SMALL AND LIFE WAS BAD. Nothing fit in my laptop including my music library while doing school work on it so I was constantly tethered to externals.

Austin your using the wrong charger for the Macbook Air you need an L style connector what you was using was the T style connector, the L style connector does not have the same issue you faced here as was designed to fix that issue.

Fun Fact, Toshiba Portege was thinner than the macbook air and had a DVD drive. I was working for Toshiba at the time and i Remember them presenting the new one and completely bagging apple. Thats not the right charger for the macbook air btw, it was the barrel type one. Can we stop the expensive key cap crap please. Spend $$ on your gpu not your keyboard. A used dell or hp keyboard for $5 does the same job.
