Charanda has been made in Mexico since the early 1500's and might have been introduced to the Spanish by the Philippines. Charanda can only be made in Michoacán , Mexico, an area know for it's red soil and the name Charanda means "Red colored Soil" in the native Purepecha language. Charanda was granted Denomination of Origin in 2003 and means it can only be made in Michoacan from Fresh Sugar Cane Juice, Molasses or Piloncillo

My wife is from uruapan. Her family is always surprised that I ask them to bring it back every time they go down there. They see it as a “cheap” not very good liquor. Father in law was blown away by this video. Thanks
You changed my life with one phrase "frozen pineapple fronds"... 🤯. What a fantastic idea! Save some fronds in the freezer for garnish. Wow, genius.
Duuuude, literally just bought a bottle of Charanda over the past weekend! Thank you for not just the awesome recipes, but the history lesson and awareness
What people mean by “aguardiente” can vary by region. My understanding is that in Colombia and Panama it refers specifically to an anisette sort of thing. Correct me if I’m wrong folks!
Mate, your videos got me through lockdown in the UK. My country is obsessed with gin, and though I still like gin, my home bar is a much more eclectic selection of booze, and I'll be adding charanda to it as well!
LEANDRO!!! Awesome video!!! I've seen this Rum in the store, and I WILL pull the trigger!!! I can wait to try these!!! CHEERS!!!!!
Hell yeah, I specifically bought a bottle of Urupan Charanda because you recommended it for the Carajilο, excited to try these out
There's a version of charanda infused with mushrooms which sounds fun.
Just got my bottle today from my cousin visiting from Michoacan! Can't wait to try it 😋🥃
this vid was beautiful and snarky all in one!! interesting combination!
Gonna have to try the Charanda! Great video :)
Discovered Charanda recently because I needed a rhum agricole. Got home and realized it was Mexican rhum agricole! So delicious!!
Uruapan Charanda is terrific in all three expressions I’ve tasted, particularly the blanco at 50% (which is sold in a liter bottle and a smoking deal) and the Single Agricola (at 46.7%). So delighted you are highlighting it in this video. I find both stand up superbly in cocktails, and make simple ones delightfully complex. Beware, though. I bought another brand and found it of much lower quality and sold at 40%, lacking in character.
These all look great. Will keep an eye out for Charanda in UK!
I often screenshot your on-screen recipes during your videos, and I noticed a typo on the Piña y Caña on-screen recipe. It says 1/2 oz charanda instead of 1 1/2 oz. I have an underused bottle of Uruapan Charanda, so I'm happy to see these recipes. I'll be trying all three. Thanks for what you do!
Was messing around with a combination of Charanda, green chartreuse, banana liqueur, lime. Very weird but kinda awesome
I can't seem to find any near me. Anyway you know I can support online without buying a bottle? My state doesn't allow liquor shipping.
Really good for skin
Charanda and honey go so well together. Drinking a Charanda Güey on Cinco de Mayo and its so much better than any margarita that i could have made.
All of these recipes look incredibly delicious. I’ll definitely mention them to my bartender at work. Hopefully in the future you can do a similar video on Cachaca. I’ve bought some earlier, and don’t really know what else to use it for other than my favourite summer drink, The Caipirinha. If you could recommend some recipes, that’d be very appreciated. Cheers.

I would love some variations to use Cachaca also!
Have loved the Killer on Ice for a while now!
Can't wait to but some of this when I find a place that has it
So interesting, I have never heard of charanda and sadly will probably never be able to taste it - I doubt it's available in New Zealand 😢
Interesting! Are you familiar with Paranubes from Oaxaca? Pretty much a Mescal/Rhum Agricole style spirit. Minerality and smoke of this are outstanding.
Awesome video as always. Where can I get those old fashioned glasses they are not the same ones at the Amazon link in the description.

The Mai Tai glass in the video is a custom one we made that we sold on our website and they’re all gone :( working on a new project to bring them back possibly. Will keep you posted
Love charanda, great video! I would not call that chararanda guey a three dots and a dash riff though; they’re barely alike. There are probably like 25 other tiki drinks that it’s closer in ingredients list and flavor profile to.
Hmmm gonna have to keep my eyes out for a bottle of this stuff. Dang you Marius!!! We need that Cucumber!!! (purely kidding 😉)
i love that there's a literal barfly flying around
How long does the Taylor's Velvet Falernum last in the fridge? And how could I know if it were off?
Now I'll have to keep my eyes open for charanda. I just checked, and my state's alcoholic beverage control system doesn't stock it, and neither does the big independent liquor store across the state line. So now it's a quest.
I don't think you'll respond but any chance we will ever see that "Educated Barfly " vintage sort of double old fashioned glass go on sale? Would buy some in a heart beat
Any recipes of charanda without velvet falernum?
Where can I get this stuff?
Rhum Agricole is a D.O. as well
can anyone direct me on where to find charanda? I live in colorado
Took a whiff of my uruapan bottle this weekend. Does it remind anybody else of Wray and Nephew, but slightly more mineral? Or is it just me?
Well, guess I have another bottle I have to add to the bar!

That’s pretty much the whole point of DOP you can produce it elsewhere but it ain’t charanda

2ND?!?!?!?!?================>YESSSSSSSS!!!!
Can i make a suggestion? Every time you make these special episodes about one spirit, you could do a taste test and give us some notes on the taste and even the smell, so we could know more about it and maybe implement it on our drinks. (Edit: well you just said it yourself on the video haha)
